@JaxonH
Do you mean that you're taking the speed of this thread as a sign of lack of interest in 3rd parties?
At any rate, I MAY have played a Disgaea game for the PS2 way back in the day, but my memory is a little hazy on it. I remember thinking it was going to be like FF Tactics, but when I played it, that wasn't really the case. Is that true?
Basically, I'm on the fence for this one. I REALLY got into FF Tactics back in the day, but sometimes I can get burnt out on really grindy, overly "slow" strategy games. Like, I'm good with Fire Emblem - love those games. But even X-Con I got sick of. Would that be a danger here?
@rallydefault
Sure, why not. It's a quick snapshot of interest among members of the site. Between that and the stock remaining for the Disgaea 5 Complete Collectors Edition (which is still at 51-75% btw) it can be a tad worrying.
But to answer your question, I went in to Disgaea 5 thinking it would be like Fire Emblem... it's not. It's definitely got similarities but, it's not the same. Having improper expectations can make you dislike a game really quick (I would know, since that's what I did with Disgaea 5). But after taking a step back and evaluating it based on what it is rather than what I was hoping it to be, I can safely say the game deserves its high praise.
One thing though, is it's not exactly what I'd call slow. I mean, it's as slow as any grid based srpg, but no more or less. It's got alot of crazy moves and combos and flashy combat, team attacks and the like.
I think it's a worthy game. Especially if it slots in between Mario Kart 8 (April) and Arms (presumably June) in the month of May. It'll be the star game to scoop up that month, since most gamers want at least one good new game a month to buy.
Of course Sonic Mania and Ultra Street Fighter II are coming sometime after launch, but those are smaller titles.

Man, lack of interest in 3rd party topics, particularly this one, has me concerned for the welfare of 3rd party sales.
This game needs to do well so we continue seeing NIS support the platform. I know they said they have more coming down the line, but poor sales have been known to make companies do a 180 fairly quickly.
It's hard to be excited about ported games without a release date, if this and Steep were day one releases I'd be happy chatting away about them and pre-ordering them but chances are they gonna be dumped next to Splatoon 2 or Yooka Laylee where I will be too busy playing them to bother getting D5 or Steep.
@JaxonH
I watched a review on it. I'll probably be giving it a shot between Kart and Arms. But I really wouldn't use this forum as a barometer of interest. Sample size is incredibly low, and you're mostly dealing with a fairly narrow type of consumer. Let's just wait and see how it sells before we get sad lol

Well, rumor has it a release date is coming this week, when NIS does their announcements. I'm guessing May. But theres probably a good 60 days between Mario Kart 8 and Arms, plenty of time for more than just one game. I don't think Splatoon will be coming until August or September (that's summer) and Yooka Laylee is coming later on Switch than the other versions. Even playing another version though, that's early April, before MK8 even drops.

The Japanese eShop indicates that the game contains both Japanese and English language options (as does I Am Setsuna), so those starved for games may consider importing now (if they don't make having Japanese cover art).
"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"
Maybe it's not relevant or that important. But i'll leave it here: Amazon IT added it, making it available for pre-order at 60. Maybe other Amazons putted it on, or will do it soon. I did not check that
@Frosty_09 that's just absolutely "wow".....that might be something that cements the switch as the go to platform for J-niche games being localized in the west.
@DiscoGentleman
I'm so relieved. I'd heard the preorder total but had no perspective on whether that was good or not. It sounded good, but I wasn't able to find any statistics on percentage of preorders vs total sales long term, on average.
I Am Setsuna didn't do too hot and it worried me but, I think a physical release would have helped. Hopefully Fate Extella does well also. This is what Switch needs. If it can swoop in and get every Japanese game PS4 is getting, it'll be the default option for most I'd imagine.

I have finished BotW, and the games I want most are I am Setsuna, Nobunaga's Ambition, and Romance of the Three Kingdoms, on cartridge - but since it's questionable if they ever get released here in Europe, Disgaea 5 looks like a good JRPG/strategy alternative. But man, 130€ for the limited edition??? In that case I'll be ok with just the regular cartridge edition, and until the situation of the aforementioned games is clear, maybe Skyrim and Xenoblade 2 can fill out the gaps.
