but what's one thing that would make you instantly pre-order an NX?
I've never preordered anything so I doubt there's anything Nintendo could do to get me to preorder a new console. I usually stay away from new systems for a while until they build up a good library. Otherwise, I'd wind up wasting my money on games I never would have purchased if it had a better library.
What if the system had the pre-order bonus of every game being free on the system forever but only for the people that pre-order it? Would that get you to pre-order it?
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I'll be preordering it right away (first time I ever preorder a console actually), but I always buy all the consoles so there's nothing really special about that.
But if I were to pretend I was some kind of bitter, hold-out-type person, my fondest gaming memories have always been Zelda, and if the NX were to launch with a beautiful, engaging, deep Zelda game, that would win me over from my bitterness. I still have faith that Nintendo can take us back to those "deep" experiences of Galaxy and Link to the Past and Donkey Kong 64 (Banjo Kazooie-type games, though we all know Banjo is gone now), and even perhaps with brand-new IPs and worlds. I think Splatoon is a HUGE step in the right direction - I'm utterly captivated by that world they created, and it's definitely a new IP they can flesh out and turn into something more than just a short single-player romp.
If they can show me that, even as a stubborn buyer, I'd be right back in the game.
The price will probably be the biggest factor for me. The reason I waited on PS3 last gen and Xbox One this gen is because $500 and $600 were out of the price range I'm willing to pay for a console.
Actually I think if it somehow interoperated with or enhanced the Wii U in some way that would get me to buy it at launch. Like if it was a tablet device that allowed me to transfer existing eShop content to it so I could enjoy it on the go.
Launching with Zelda U, if the system plays games at anything more than 100p and 1 fps with buttons. My only high standards are the existence of a 3D Zelda game.
I think if the NX has a gamepad of similar form to the N3DS, but is HD and has a slot for a new higher density cartridge (but is also backwards compatible with DS/3DS cartridges), which all new physical releases are published on, runs cool and silent and has a decent battery life, then I'm in. So I can play at home and then just walk right out my door with the gamepad and keep playing...
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
Being able to transfer all my digital purchases from both my Wii U and 3DS via my NNID, Day 1, would make me pre order
This is a biggie isn't it - everyone wants to know what status their Wii U/3DS eshop purchases will have on future platforms. I buy most of my games physical, but would change instantly if I knew the purchase would be recognised on future systems.

Pretty much this. I preordered the Wii U because the GamePad looked interesting (didn't actually preorder until I was able to hold one at a demo kiosk) and the E3 sizzle reel for it got me really excited with Assassin's Creed III, Mass Effect 3, Batman Arkham City, Zombi U, and more (I didn't own a PS3 or 360, so those were instabuys for me).
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite
I know that I’m in the minority but I love a console with power, aesthetics and build quality. Don’t misunderstand, game quality is terribly important and Nintendo, while sometimes missing the mark, delivers like few others when they’re successful in that regard, but Nintendo must understand that this is a post-iPad Apple-obsessed consumer market, which means there are two selling points: build quality and ecosystem.
More importantly, the need to realise that the world economy isn't where it was when the Wii came out. We had a global recession, one that's continued by any reasonable assessment, while currency has been drastically devalued. Disposable income has decreased dramatically. Certainly there are those that can afford multiple consoles; I'm grateful to say that I fall into that category. I have the capacity to buy two but not the desire. If it's between Nintendo, with its presently horrid account system, absymal online infrastructure, cartoonish UI design and no third party support, but the occasional gem from cherished IPs, or a PS4/5 purchase with far better graphical fidelity and selection of games, better online infrastructure, and the ability to play non-game physical media, but no access to those IPs, the latter is going to win out because the forward value for me, for what I do when playing games, and more importantly when I'm not playing games, is higher.
Nothing. I don't preorder stuff, so..
Besides, I'll probably be getting the NX around the time it comes out... that is, it if comes with a fairly good launch lineup. If not, I can probably take my time.
God first.
