Which side of your gaming orientation ?
Do you prefer Nintendo games or PlayStation games or XBOX games or other gaming machines (PC, Handphone, Arcade) ?

My gaming orientation is currently on PlayStation side as my hype with 3rd party kids games on PS4 is still on fire.

I still like my Nintendo games but since I was a PlayStation gamer during my teenhood, I still have favor on PlayStation games than Nintendo games.

I have very very few XBOX and XBOX 360 games as I only interested by Dance Dance Revolution games and Kinect games.

I have zero interest with PC games and handphone games.

I play certain Arcade machine games such as DDR, MaiMai, GITADORA.

If I make a comparison of my Top 3, it will be like this.
1. PlayStation
2. Nintendo
3. XBOX

What about yours ?

@Anti-Matter I think you mean 'orientation'.

PlayStation... I just never liked the controllers (the location of the thumbsticks and the feel of the D-buttons), from day one, so I never craved owning a PS1 or PS2 during their heydays, which means I never developed a strong bond with the brand. Since then, I'm not a big fan of the direction PS has gone down. PS3 was ridiculously expensive at launch so I just ignored it, and looking back at it now, many of the exclusives have been ported so it's rendered of little ongoing interest for me, though I do like the operating system, the little I've used of it...

M having browser issues so need to post this before losing it then edit...

PS4 launched and just released ports for the first couple of years. I hardly touch mine, because I dislike the operating system and the way I seem forced to endure games like Gran Turismo reinstalling the whole game every time it updates - massive, massive turn-off.

PS5 is gargantuan and looks stupid, is expensive, and I've realised I'm just not into the PlayStation way of style over experience - cinematics is not what I game for.

And look at the way Sony virtually abandons projects like the Vita, and I hear PSVR2 is experiencing an ominous drought. Just have very little respect for Sony as a company I want to trust my gaming investment to.

Xbox... I liked the brand originally, my brother bought one early on with two amazing games - Halo and Project Gotham Racing, but both franchises have been mishandled since in their own ways - but before that mishandling I was locked in for buying an Xbox 360 in the lead up to launch, but the RROD issue put me right off and I didn't end up getting a 360 for a long time. Shame, as I would have enjoyed it.

But then Xbox started going down the online-focus, paying to be able to play online, discs just being download keys, game pass... That stuff is not what console gaming should be to me.

And as for their appalling track record of first-party games for Xbox One onwards... a complete shambles.

Nintendo... I've never not liked anything they've done. Sure, there's been some frustrations e.g. the Wii U's underpowered usb ports and odd filing system which made external storage and save management a right headache, and now even Nintendo players have to pay to play online, but it's a very minimal cost.

And I just love the Nintendo IPs, art style and charm.

Right now, Nintendo is so far out in front for me in terms of appeal. Physical gaming is preserved (kinda), which allows me to build a solid collection, which gives each console generation a distinct identity. PlayStation and Xbox has lost that distinct identity and don't seem bothered about it, porting games to Steam etc. Nintendo might lose it too with the amount of retro ports and remasters they're starting to do since Wii U, but at least for now I feel Switch has a distinct identity, despite the Wii U porting. Plus Nintendo embraces handheld gaming, which is where I spend most of my gaming time.

So for now, I can't foresee investing much more time/money in anything but Nintendo in the future.

Sorry, this post has gotten rather long and waffly, but (a) I feel quite strongly about how much better off I feel as a Nintendo-first gamer, and (b) my browser issue is making it difficult to review/edit what I've written.

We've always been Nintendo + PlayStation in our house (we did go Wii + Xbox 360 in the 6tg gen, but still ended up getting a PS3 late in the game).

Currently bouncing between Zelda: TotK on Switch & FFXIV on PS5 & it feels good!

Also do have a gaming laptop that I got a couple years ago. Mostly use it for stuff that doesn't need the PS5's power, but would like to play on something more powerful than Switch (or isn't available on either). For example I played Ryse: Son of Rome earlier this year, which is otherwise Xbox exclusive.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Who's arguing? Thread was just about sharing opinions based on personal experience until you rocked up all condescending-like 😝

Personally I don't see any point in continuing to buy Playstation or Xbox products. I've tried them, still own and use several of them, but I'm lucky enough to have a rich pool of games and hardware to chose from and find that I don't use my Xbox or Playstation stuff enough (for the reasons outlined above) to really justify further investment, and the direction each brand is heading does not seem aligned to what I want to spend my time and money on.

There are significant differences between Nintendo, Xbox and PlayStation, so I wouldn't go pretending they're all the same. This thread is just an opportunity to discuss those differences.

My gaming heart belongs to Nintendo. I love fun and colourful games with heart. But I do like to play something else too.

I like games, period. Associating your tastes in games with any particular platform comes off as you having an identity crisis of sorts. As though you've been indoctrinated to some degree. It sounds like some needy fanboy type ****. But I suppose we all feel the need to belong...somewhere, don't we?

I've never really been into one 'side' and have usually just picked up whatever suits me from each generation - I mostly had home computers (C64 & Amiga) back in the day, first console was a Mega Drive though and also had a Dreamcast too. First Nintendo Console was the Wii, I've had PlayStations as well (1-3) and got my first Xbox this Gen. Have had a few Nintendo handhelds over the years too (GB, GBA, DS, 3DS).

'Current' consoles are the Switch and Xbox Series X. I tend to play different types of games on each console though - Retro, Indies, RPGs and Puzzle games etc I tend to play on Switch (or 3DS) and stuff like Racing and Action Adventure type games are more suited to the Series X. If a game is available on both platforms I tend to pick it up on whichever 'feels' right (or whichever goes on sale first 😂).

I started gaming with Nintendo, most of my favourite series are exclusive to their consoles. But I love a bit of everything, the only reason I have to make certain platforms/series a priority is a lack of time and money.

Choosing your "gaming orientation" feels a bit childish. Takes me back to school when everyone was a Nintendo fan, but almost overnight it was the most uncool thing. Suddenly it was all Fifa and GTA, Xbox vs Playstation. Trying to seem grown up yet acting more childish in the process haha

I feel like basing your preferences on a console is a skewed perspective. It's like asking what utensil you like to eat your dinner with then saying "I love spoons because my favourite dinner is soup." Isn't it easier just to say you like soup? And if you go around interrupting people's dinner to tell them you don't like forks because you're really into soup, people will think you're mad. Excuse me, sir, I'm trying to enjoy my chicken parm.

Probably around a hundred or so. Most of those are Playstation Plus Essential games I've downloaded but haven't put much time into. I bought the PS4 at launch primarily for Warframe and have bought maybe...fifty games over the past decade.

I don't pick sides, I pick games I want to play. If I want to play a Nintendo game I play it. If it's on Xbox I play it, if it's on PS I play it.

We are all gamers in the end, so what does it matter what piece of.plastic we play games on?

While I agree that console wars and fanboyism is ridiculous, I think it's equally silly to think that people wouldn't have their own preferences when it comes to game platforms.

I own all current gen systems, but my preference lies heavily with the Switch - followed by PC - to the point that I barely touch my PS5 and XBox Series S.

With regards to the 4 current platforms:

  • Switch: I've always somewhat leaned towards Nintendo as I like their 1st party games, however the portability and versatility of the Switch is really what makes it my console of choice. It helps that perhaps 75% of what I'm interested in is released on the thing these days.
  • PC: this is my go-to for titles that aren't released on the Switch. I appreciate the versatility of PC, as well as its massive back-catalogue, although I do get annoyed by certain aspects of PC gaming (needing to optimise setup, display/driver/control issues, lack of reliable suspend feature) from time-to-time.
  • PS5: I really enjoy a number of PS exclusives (particular Spider-Man, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Horizon), but they're too few and far between for me, and they're typically not day 1 games for me either.
  • Xbox: I do like the odd Xbox exclusive (e.g. Halo, Forza Horizon), but tbh these comprise very little (like, 3%?) of my game time, and there's often years between Xbox releases that interest me. I do appreciate Xbox Play Anywhere and will freely switch between my PC and Xbox for these games. Otherwise my Xbox is mostly there for backwards compatibility. Definitely the most neglected of my current-gen systems.

I'll play anything that's good, but Nintendo will always be my favorite. Started out with the SNES and N64 as a kid, and they've made many of my favorite games of all time, even today. Plus, they made Mario! I used to like PlayStation, but not so much these days... I just don't like Sony's newer games very much. I didn't play too much Xbox, though I am familiar with the Halo series. I sometimes play on PC, and honestly, I have a soft spot for Sega, as well.

@gcunit
Oh, thanks for remind me to change the oriented into orientation. 😀

Btw, I never knew you don't like PlayStation brand so much as opposite of me I like PlayStation brand since I grew up from PS1 and PS2 games during my teenhood.

I have very silly situation by hating PS4 so much before year 2017 for not having much knowledge about the games I can consider to play.
I was very Wii U fanboy during year 2016 and I told to myself I will not buy PS4 because of lack of kids games that suitable for me.
But suddenly I ate my word when I found FF XII TZA on PS4 as FF XII on PS2 was one of my favorite game. The Sims 4 on PS4 in year 2017 really made me changed my mind.
I started to open my mind a little bit with PS4 until I managed to buy PS4 machine in April 2018.

But once again, I got fanboism from Nintendo after I got Switch in December 2017 and I told to myself when I got the ported games from PS4 to Switch, my PS4 will be done. I was so blindly got carried by my fanboism because of wanting The Sims 4 on Switch and in result I started to sold my PS4 games one by one when I got the ported version from PS4 to Switch like World of Final Fantasy, FF X/X-2, FF XII TZA, until I watched EA presentation during June 2019.
The Sims 4 on Switch was never happened as EA only want to release on PS4 & XBOX version. And I felt crumbled by doing a huge mistake for hating PS4 for no reason.
I started to keep focus on The Sims 4 on PS4 and I rebuild again my PS4 games.

As year goes by I became liking PS4 more because there were more kids games I could consider after I got PS3 machine and I became more open with other games I have never played before (as long still kids games and acceptable Teen games).

During year 2021, my hype with PS4 started to rise even higher than my Switch hype as I played ACNH at the same time.

During year 2022, I started to feel disappointed with current situation of Switch which the games got worse performance than PS4 / PS5 version + the dirty / cheap business practice from developers by selling code in box for Switch version but full games in disc for PlayStation and XBOX version, partial download, streaming only for Switch version and you can see my comments oftenly said I will get PS4 / PS5 version instead of Switch version because I already disappointed with current Switch release that have worse performance. At the same time I became hyped with PS5 after I can consider more and more kids games on PS5. So whenever I found trailer about upcoming 3rd party games, I really hope the games will have PS4 / PS5 version as I will pick the PlayStation version instead of Switch version for better performance because I only bought the games once and I want the better version as possible unless the games are really good, I will double dip both PlayStation and Switch version.

Actually, after I changed my gaming policy during year 2022 by getting the 3rd party multi console games on PS4 / PS5, I got very huge amount of games I can play.
My PS4 and PS5 games are keep built from 3rd party multi console games and at the same time my Switch games got built from 1st party + 3rd party exclusives + 1st / 3rd party remastered or remake from older games.
And because I have registered more than 110 PS4 games I can consider, I have to get another PS4 machine with 2TB HDD installed to play bigger GB PS4 games like JRPG games.

About PlayStation controller style, I personally prefer PlayStation controller style as the design of D-pad and Analog buttons position are symmetrical and perfect for playing DDR on PS1 and PS2 since the buttons placement mimicking of DDR panel buttons.
In contrary, I don't like GameCube controller design at all as the analog button on the top and the action command buttons placement is very asymmetrical, very unsuitable for playing DDR Mario Mix as I need PlayStation style controller to play DDR games.
Well, that's my personal opinion about PlayStation controller style.

I didn't bash anything.
I only measure how big my interest in gaming between Nintendo, PlayStation and XBOX.
I have three of them and if I measure my orientation currently, I still have more hype from PlayStation games.

For me even if there is just ONE game for a console/platform that I want to play it is worth getting.

As for brands I think that people get defensive because they want to defend their purchase and feel like it is worth it

Yes, some consoles have better exclusives but, in the end, the only thing that matter is the game and not who is making it.

Prefer? Why so limiting? If there’s a game on a console I wanna play it’s worth it! Of course if I can’t have the console that sucks but I couldn’t care less where the game really is, if I can get it on a ps5 sure, if I can’t and have to get in on a switch/Xbox alright, I don’t care as long as I get to play the game.

Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!
