This also includes remakes. I'm not trying to say this is a bad thing, but I question the lack of new IP's. There are some new ones like Splatoon, Bloodborne etc. I believe that's probably why.

Watch this episode of the Nostalgia Critic if you haven't already. It talks about movies but I think it also applies to videogames as well.

I don't remember what I was supposed to learn from that, but at least I found a bunch of movies I want to see now. Why have I never heard of Tomm Moore before? He has 3 really interesting animated movies, apparently, and the trailers alone had me awed. Guess I know what I'll be doing during my free time for the rest of the week.

"I believe that's probably why" ???

If you were looking for a new planet to live on, would you choose Earth2 or Kleygglo-5?

Established brands mean a lot of the hard work is already done. The name is known

Fans ask for remakes and sequels. The ones who want new IPs often dismiss the ones already out anyway...

1. Because of 2001 AKA 911 and the patriot act, everything looks depressing.

2. They know people who did not die in the war or of that period who are not in prison all have families and needs something to spend money on.

3. They know that people will have problems with new products. So why not be safe. The same reason why Super-man and Megaman is popular.

4. This is not new. Back then ( and now ) we have people selling radio programs for those who want to listen to radio on their cassette tapes in their cars.

5. With the internet also we have too many ways to be disappointed before you even make an purchase. Another thing is that Commercials, mini-games, and fast paced imagery including comic-skits have been in the rise among adults. The youthful age is shrinking faster and faster because not too many people are reproducing or taking jobs as before.

As has been said elsewhere many times before we are seeing a particular resurgence of classic franchises right now because they appeal to the largest and most rapidly growing demographic. These are the people who 20-30 years ago grew up on the source material and now have their own jobs and money and are able to pay to reminisce and enjoy things that they have fond, nostalgic memories for from their youth. The recent impressive and returns of Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, DC and Marvel and countless classic gaming franchises, genres, and audiovisual styles can all be attributed those 80s and 90s kids who are now grown up and deciding with their wallets what classifies as mainstream entertainment.

Well, look at some of the brands that have been around for a while...or Sonic. The original sonic games were great and fans loved them...now, they've fallen from grace. This happened with Golden Axe too...Beast Rider was not that great and sold terribly, and many other franchises have been like this (Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Klonoa). Also, the classic games came into popularity, so they're probably thinking about that too, but for PS4 and XONE just remaking or re-releasing games from just one generation ago...a generation that is still around, it's kind of weird, but I also think it's a way to get games out for the new systems, while the new system's games are still in development. It also helps them to pass by these long droughts in system's games that we technically are really seeing.

Nintendo needs some of these remakes. Most of their past systems didn't get a lot of people buying, and, except for us fans of nintendo, many people missed out on fun and great titles (Eternal Darkness, Pikmin 1 and 2, Chibi Robo, Custom Robo). I honestly don't mind them re-releasing classics that were cherished, and it's a good way for the companies to make a little more money.
