One of the saddest monments in my life was the end of nintendo power. I used to read that at school every day while everyone else was reading gameinformer. When I heard they were closing up, I almost cried. Who thinks Nintendo Power should comeback?

I'm fine getting my game news and reviews online honestly, I just wouldn't spend money to get the same thing but on a monthly basis that I have to pay for not nowadays.

Nintendo Power became crap in its last year. It had been on a decline for years

I get GI because it's free otherwise I wouldn't care for it anymore.

Was it not owned and paid for by Nintendo anyway ? (Tiny fraction of the marketing budget if that is the case).

It was well written back in 2003-2006, but I think the editor left

It was co-owned and operated by Nintendo of America and Future Publishing (who also publish the Xbox and Playstation magazines)

It was wholly owned by Nintendo of America up until 2007, then they sold it to Future US.

It must have been Future's least popular gaming magazine (unfortunately), because they shut it down and relocated staff to Official Xbox Magazine, their Playstation magazine, and whatever else they publish.

Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Best magazine I have ever read was Super Play. Nobody seems to want to do one like that these days though.

(Bigger focus on imports. Scores adjusted after the fact compared to what is released afterwards. If somebody strongly disagrees with a review then they get an aside even if they are not the reviewer. They all seemed to be more of a consensus.)

Ideal magazine (Or site for that matter) should have :

Focus on imports - proper reviews by someone who speaks Japanese if it is necessary.

Don't accept free copies because it compromises integrity.

Change scores after the fact if it is deemed necessary.

Average being defined to be 5 (As in most games get that). The whole scale used. Anybody disagrees don't give a 10/10. 9/10 Everybody should want this. (Meaning really everybody not most people everybody). 8/10 most people should want it. 7/10 solid example of the genre. 6/10 Slightly better than average but not that interesting to anybody who doesn't love the genre. 5/10 Average (Most things should get this score because that is what average should mean - the average is the quality that most things at a given time have by definition).

Prime directive should be being consistent so that the publication can be trusted. (The 4 reviewers on each thing that Famitsu does might be a good idea). Refusing stuff like advertising for specific games as it could potentially mean those games may be reviewed better.

When the prime goal is to get people to keep buying the publication it works far better for me than when it is to sell advertising.

Honestly NP wasn't any good once Nintendo outsourced it. The covers were bland compared to the early 90's to early 2000's the articles weren't nearly as good. If they were to bring it back I would like to see Nintendo doing it rather then some other company.

Still though in today's world there really is no place for printed material due to the internet. I mean whatever information Nintendo Power or any magazine for that matter puts out and by the time you get it is obsolete due to the internet. Why wait a month for a review on a particular game when I can just find it immediately on the web?

I do miss the times when 5/10 was average and 8/10 wasn't an outrage and a travesty of justice

Do you mean the perfect score should only be used if all four reviewers agree with it because otherwise nothing deserves a perfect score seeing as not EVERYONE will ever want something

Anywho, I liked NP but it became a bit of a novelty (or monthly treat, to sound less negative) once I started using online sources more frequently. Therefore I didn't use it so much for news as for their interviews and more in-depth editorials and of course reviews.

Its just that before the internet, I had this magazine
