Perfect scores are still useful if the reviewer feels that there aren't any drawbacks that would hinder the experience of a game. Of course, the internet as a whole may believe that only perfect scores should be given to their favorite games.

I do miss the times when 5/10 was average and 8/10 wasn't an outrage and a travesty of justice
True. I won't lie sometimes I find it difficult to fight against wanting to dismiss a game that gets 6/10 even after reading through the entire review. The problem becomes only having so much time and money to go around and needing to be selective with any potential purchase, so having higher standards is not always a bad thing.
While that's true, personally by this point, that just means that I'm going to read a review more thoroughly regardless of score and simply buy whatever sounds like I'd have the most fun. I don't believe going with whatever somebody else says is good is actually being "discerning." When I want to be less picky is when I'll actually look at a score.

Yeah but 4 people thinking something is 10 out of 10 takes away that it just might be a game in a favoured genre of the reviewer.
And 4 people also kind of balances out someone just not liking that genre. (And the option exists to have one reviewer who is really into that genre / one who really doesn't like it and two who are not bothered either way).
If you look at the Out Now list on here then going down arranging by score then you end up coming to some pretty awful conclusions. (Reason I started reading everything on the site).
Nightsky is the best game on the eshop
Mutant Mudds is better than Steamworld Dig or Fractured Soul
Commando : Steel Disaster is not worth even considering. (It got 5/10 and the review basically just complains that it is like Metal Slug not like Contra. Really though it is better than Metal Slug 7 especially how it run on the 3DS. It is a better example of a Metal Slug game than Metal Slug 7).
The 3D Classics version of Ecco the Dolphin is worse than the Wii VC version.
One of the best 3D Classics is Twinbee (Which I personally really do like but I find it unlikely that most people would rather have that than Sonic for example and I think Space Harrier / Galaxy Force 2 / Super Hang On are all better).
The text and score from Yoshi's New Island here could have been put next to NSMB2 and I would have agreed wholeheartedly with it but it was almost decided in advanced that it wasn't going to be any good.
“30fps Is Not a Good Artistic Decision, It's a Failure”
Freedom of the press is for those who happen to own one.
Except it also meant 4 reviewers couldn't write full reviews, just blurbs, which is as unhelpful as it gets...I think you're much better off getting 4 different sources for reviews if you have to have multiple opinions.

Yes, but those are assuming you only read the scores, which should never be done in any review.

Nintendo Power became crap in its last year. It had been on a decline for years
I personally disagree. Ever since Future took over, NP became less of a mouthpiece/propaganda mill, and was starting to get a bit more reliable in their opinions. Normally, I'd just read NP for the previews, comics and guides, but everything started to come together by the late Gamecube/early Wii era.
I can't say much about NP because I never really was involved in the community until recently. However, it's seems like a lot of people, including me, believe that NF Magazine is the true spiritual successor and serves Nintendo Power justice. Besides, where else can you get sweet posters like this?
Sucked when NP went away but I am a fan of Nintendo Force. Actually just purchased a print copy of issue 8 off the website a few days ago. The other magazine I love, probably my favorite of all-time, is EGM. Glad its still around, even if it does only get 3 or 4 issues a year. Hopefully it can stay around for a long time to come.
So many memories of being so excited to get the newest issue of Nintendo Power back in the 90s. It was a fantastic resource for its time. However, it was a dying breed after the internet rose to power. I agree with most of what AVGN said.
I want Ngamer back more. It was funny, stylish, silly, and had real effort in it. That was the best magazine I had read. THEY ----ING CANCELLED IT BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ALREADY LOW BUDGET, THEY NEEDED MORE MONEY FOR THE OFFICIAL MAGAZINE.
I AM STILL MAD.
I have a couple of issues from the final two or so years of NP sitting around here and there.
I was subscribed to it when I was really young, so I had a bunch of issues but they got destroyed after a water leakage in my attic some odd years ago. I just threw them out, they were completed ruined.
Do I want it back? They're nice collectibles, I will say that. I like having them because I see them as collector's items in some respect. But realistically, I learn everything online now.
@Unca_Lz But this thread is about nintendo power continuing, not if nitnendo power had continued. There's enough of a market to have both. NIntendo force is definitely inferior to the old nintendo power, but I would sadly have to agree in the post-future owned era.

I miss Nintendo Gamer, which was Nintendo Power's twin... (they also shut down at the same time) so I think Nintendo Power and Nintendo Gamer had the same budget, which is a good guess to why they shut down.
