I enjoyed tonight's episode a lot, probably a bit more than the second ep. Yes, more of a slow episode, but it worked to establish the characters more, particularly Rick's "do the right thing" attitude, even when everyone else thinks he's nuts for making the decisions he does.
I'm happy too with the kid they cast as Carl so far; in the comic, Carl is a pretty important character, especially later on, so his casting was pretty important. The kid seems to be able to nail the balance between "normal" kid (the frog fishing scene) and his inner strength (the scene where he reasssures his mother that he's not worried because he knows Rick will survive going back into the city).
I'm loving the show; it's gonna suck when these 6 eps are done and we have to wait however long forthe next season.
It sounds like a good show, but I won't be watching it. After Highschool of the Dead, I don't wanna watch another Zombie show for a long, looong time...
I finally caught the first episode online at their web site. It was awesome, as expected. Unfortunately, they state that only the pilot/premier episode will be available in that manner so I'll have to wait a while until it hits Netflix (I hope).
Another great episode. FYI, this one was written by Robert Kirkman, writer of the comic series.
It's funny, i was enjoying the episode so much (another great Dale scene! and Daryl (Merle's brother) is quickly becoming my favorite character), that i was surprised by the zombie attack at the end, even though it was in the previews last week. Excellent scene, too. One of my favorite parts of it was actually after the attack was over, and there was the shot of Glenn looking around with this look of "Ohmigod holysh!# WTF just happened?!" And nice move to kill off a semi-central character so quickly to give it that "no one is safe!" feel that the comic has.
That episode was intense! Easily the best one so far; can't wait to see what happens this Sunday...

I wonder how they're going to leave things at the end of the season (just 2 more eps!), like whether they'll go with a cliffhanger (probably not), or if they will kill off any more high-profile characters (probably yes).
Great season. A little uneven as far as pacing and tone at times, but when they were shooting it they had no idea if they'd get picked up for a 2nd season, so it's excusable. The next season should really come together well since they'll have 13 eps and a more certain future, not to mention they've whittled down the cast a bit more. Plus, apparently Darabont is going to tighten up the writing staff, and supposedly going to personally oversee each script to make sure there is more uniformity throughout the season
The finale was nice -- some more development of the Rick-Lori-Shane dynamic, and the deepening of the relationship between Andrea and Dale -- and there's plenty of good threads to pick up for next season like Merle and Morgan (the black guy with his kid from the first ep), the helicopter that Rick saw in Atlanta. And of course the whispered secret to Rick from the scientist which is probably

that Lori is pregnant, which the scientist could have learned from the blood tests.

Bloody hell, they're going to make it even more amazing?! I can't handle so much awesome, man!

I assume you won't have to wait long, especially since the first commercial after the episode ended was to pre-order the eventual DVD/Blu-Ray release.
That's great news, thanks!
I may have to purchase it then. I suspect the Netflix wait will be ridiculous.
There are reports that the DVDs will release March 8, 2011, which is the date Amazon is showing. However, TVShowsonDVD.com is reporting that this date is not precisely correct, but likely close to what the actual street date will be. Maybe we'll be lucky and they'll get 'em out quicker.
What does suck is that the next season may not air until next October (!), but this is also unconfirmed at this time (though it would not surprise me).
Meanwhile, i just blasted through the latest collection (Volume 13) on Sunday before the finale, and have started re-reading the series again (up to Volume 4 on the re-read). Such awesomeness.
