You shouldn't say controversial, that word brings nothing but controversy. :D
It's just a simple discussion :P

Has anyone seen Moore's first film Roger & Me?

I never saw Roger and Me.

The new one doesn't seem to be in cinema here as of yet. I'm interested in seeing it though. Judging from his earlier movies, which I enjoyed, there will be some bias but the bottom line does make sense. It seems the topic of modern capitalism is an important one for Moore to adress. Capitalism these days has gone so far that companies keep growing and fusing with each other while becoming more and more powerful and caring less about serving the people and more about making profit. The role of the government has greatly declined over the past thirty years or so to a degree where it's become dangerous. Communism was bad, but hardcore neoliberal capitalism has almost created a system not so very different in that there is a lot of economic power concentrated on only a few people with the rest right under it.

The systems of communism and hardcore capitalism have failed, it's time to go towards a more moderate system that respects both the interests of businesses and the role of the government and not just one of them.

I've got a Michael Moore section in my DVD library and I'll happily add this one to it when it eventually comes out!

@Sean Aaron

Michael Moore was always my favorite James Bond. He added a touch of fatness and Americanism that was sorely missed with the other Bond actors.

Roger & Me is perhaps his most personal film. It's basically about the new trend at the time (80s) of corporations being profitable, but still cutting jobs to further profits. And of course Moore is upset at the devastating effect that it's had on his community.

Flint, Michigan was once a nice city, but this film kind of documents the begining of its economic downfall. I live about 45 minutes away from Flint and I can tell you that the City is in horrible shape now. Once, home to good automotive jobs now its a wasteland and the only economic growth I see are those "haunted house" attractions that appear in the Fall!

@TG:

To the video store! I've liked all of his others, so I think I need to give this a shot.

@jbrock.... I do have hard feeling toward a LOT of people with 9-11 but the more you dig the more you find and there are so many contributing factors that play back so many years, even before Bush, that its hard for me to just blame one person or administration. Now Katrina is a different story, I live an hour from Downtown New Orleans, and got 4 ft of water in my parents home during that strom and the government was so ineffetive it was ridiculous.

@TG64..... Roger and Me... I will add that to my collection as I have Bowling for Columbine, and F 9-11.

Info on my background is I used to be a conserative diehard but I used to work for Pepsi and I worked approx. 45-55 hrs a week and made good money about 50-55,000 a year. Class A CDL liscense and manually unloading drinks is hard work but the money was good and it was a respectable job. After 6 years of faithful service to the company with no pay raises, they cut my pay to approx 37,000 a year and my hours went uppwards of 60-70+ hours. I was doing my job and half another mans and was told "If you don't like it there is the F****** Door". They made us do crazy things to cut fuel cost, and all this complany effiency bull.... needless to say the 1000 workers all took the 15,000-20,000 pay cut and the company reported profits of nearly 3 million over the previous year in a recession. We got no bonus, nothing. Never got our pay raise back or anything, just starting treating us like dogs and regurally worked to my hands bleed and was told " Where you goin to find another job, deal with it". That is what Capatilism has turned into. Corporate Greed. The guys on top weren't hurting or takin pay cuts. That changed my whole perspective on life, politics, etc. Then I shortly realised that I freakin voted for McCain who is one of the main ones that supports this crazy idea of a American Dream. Im in a Union Job and work as a Contractor for Northrop Gruman. I make the same thing in $40hrs that I did at Pepsi in 60hrs. Its still hard work, but I feel like a normal human being and not a slave when I get home and that makes a big difference. I can never support the Republicans, or Conseratives anymore. I literally almost walked out of Moores movie in tears, it hit home big time.

I saw it tonight and yea it was powerful stuff!

This country would've been way better off if FDR's added Bill of Rights would've happened.

@TG64..... Im curious as to that myself, but Im curious to as to what would happen if it really did happen, because it would have caused a major outrage from a lot of poeple. We will never know. Had he gotten it passed, maybe all this BS that we see now wouldn't be happening, we will never know.

Who cares if the top 1% is upset they are outnumbered and have treated the bottom 95% pretty horrible in the last 20 years!

They have showed no alliegance to their own people anyways by sending jobs overseas when there is already a job shortage here.

Its quite long but in post 49 of mine, Im very aware of how people are being treated, things have got to change in this country.

I added Roger and Me to my Netfix cue today, so will be watching that on soon i hope.
