Topic: Mega Man 4, 5, and 6: Mixed opinions?

Pretty much everyone likes 1, 2, and 3, but I've heard so many mixed views on the latter three titles. Some people think 5 is bad, some think 6 is bad, and some even think 4 is bad (it's one of my favorites). Why? What makes these games not as good as the first 3? I think they're all great, but why do you like/dislike them?

Other than being pretty much the same thing over and over again, the graphics become an eyesore, it gets plain and boring, the music gets worse, the bosses get more and more uninteresting, and there's little to no point of owning them with the lack anything truly new like... replay value? 9 and 10 were better because of the gap and the DLC, challenges, and the additional characters like Bass and Proto Man.

4 is one of my favorites. 2 and 3 had the best music but 4's is alright. Skull man has a cool theme. Mega man 5 is better than 4 but still not as good as 2 and 3. I like how they made 5's plot revolve around Protoman being a bad guy. Mega man 6 was just plain lazy. The music sucked and the bosses were stupid. Centaur man? Sheesh. They were really running out of ideas. Took them until 9 and 10 to come up with cool bosses again.

I like all of the games in the series granted some are better than others mainly cause of the level designs and the robot masters.

Megaman 5 is easily my number 3 of best Megaman games right under Megaman 2 and 3. I didnt find anything wrong with 5 the only problem I ever had with 5 was Gyro mans stage usually I have to have my friend beat the level or I have to find a password where he is dead already I can never get past the elevator in that level.

As for Megaman 4 my main problem along with alot of people who I know played the game is that this was the first game that the Mega buster was introduced. So it seems to me and alot of my friends that the designers of the game wanted to focus on the Mega buster and by doing that they made alot of the mundane enemies with alot of hit points. You couldnt beat them with just one or two shots you had to use a full charge of the Mega buster to kill them, as a result you had to had to keep you finger down on the shoot button all the time otherwise you couldnt kill anything. As a result I really couldnt get into this one like the others. THe levels were designed good and the Robot masters were decent but this game due to the high hitpoints to the mundane enemies makes it aggorvating to me cause of the high death rate due to either me not being able to charge the mega buster quickly enough or my finger hurting cause of holding it down.

Now Megaman 6 I only played once so I really dont remember too much of if but what I do remember it was as good as the others IMO.

Thats my thoughts on the subject anyway.

Forgive me in advance 'cause Mega Man is serious stuff! Being about the same is what the series does! Why change it if it's good? The visuals got better with each new game, and the graphics in 6 are very detailed. While 4 has excellent music, 5 and 6 aren't as good, but I still like them. I found nothing wrong with the Robot Masters, even though some of the attack patterns and names are a little weak. I've never grown tired of playing them, and don't find them boring.

To me they get old and to others as well. It's virtually the same formula over and over again just with new bosses, stages, and music. 4's music was terrible when compared to 3's or 2's. Yet you can clearly see with comparison that the robot masters did get very uncreative.

Dust Man? Ring Man? Toad Man? Bright man? What did CAPCOM do? Go in one of their kid's bedrooms and see how bright and dusty it was, saw their kid's pet toad, and see their kid's girlfriend's jewelry on the dresser then think "that these are some great ideas"? Pathetic.

In 4, there was only one enemy that required a charged shot to beat (either from the mega buster or a fully charged Pharaoh Shot) and that is the Skeleton Joe found in Skull Man's stage and Cossack stage 1. I've never had a problem rapid firing enemies to death. And remember that you can always use a special weapon instead of the Mega Buster. Oh, and I don't have any trouble with Gyro Man's stage.

Mega Man 6 was far from the best in the series, but I still thought it was a fun game.

I honestly don't see why nobody likes the music in 4, IMO 5 has the least memorable music (except for Star Man) but I don't hate it. As for 6, some of the music is pretty good (Flame Man, Knight Man, Stage Select theme, Tomahawk Man) and I've never once complained about any of the Robot Masters.

Yeah, the opinions are pretty mixed. IMO, MM4 is okay, just not as good as the first 3. MM5 is the only really bad one, and then it's not bad, just by the numbers and far too easy. MM6 is much better than the other two, and introduces some really interesting features. It's still no Mega Man 2, but it's no where near bad.

Those Robot Masters were genious compared to the abominations that were in MM6.
Yamato Man? Plant Man? Centaur Man? Tomahawk Man?......
Hell, Blizzard man is a bloody snow ball on Skii's, while Flame Man looks like he's sporting a Bee hive turbin. And Wind Man looks flat out HORRIBLE...It's as if Dr.Wily gathered a bunch of dated robot scraps and glued them all together. Wind Man is the worst like Robot Master in the history of the MM Nes series. Anyways, I'm actually one of the few who actualy kind of likes plant man, maybe from a design perspectivie. His stage was probably the best as well. Knight man was a good one as well. Anyways, here's Blizzard, Flame and Wind Man, eek

Untitled Untitled Untitled

All the Masters in 6 were supposedly created in a different country to participate in the Tournament held in the plot of the game. Wind Man is from China (hence all the Panda enemies in his stage), Flame Man was made in the Middle East (hence his look, with the turban and pointy shoes), and Blizzard Man was made in Canada (hence why he fancies skiing). It's a creative concept IMO. BTW the Robot Masters were a creation of fan submissions to Capcom, so don't blame them for the designs.

Well yes the music in 4 is great in your opinion. And I don't hate them I just find them irrelevant and uncreative.

Exactly. And your proving my point on the fact that they are uncreative, dull robots. (Post MM3 that is.)

MM5 is one of my favorite Mega Man games. Unfortunately it got really bad reviews.

MM9 on the other hand is just MM5 with the style of MM2, yet it got great reviews.

Yeah, the coloring was bad on the MM3 stage select, once Snake Man is gone, it becomes a flood of blue and orange. I don't like looking at it. They brought the Mega Man back on the title screen in the Anniversary Collection, but for every game they used the "Mega Man" logo from 3, and it ruined the title screen in MM2.

@WaveBoy
I also love Sheep Man. Very unique and fun just like Galaxy Man which is one of the easiest bosses I've ever fought, lol.

My favorites would have to be:
5: Mega Man 3
4: Mega Man 8
3: Mega Man 10
2: Mega Man 2
1: Mega Man 9

You like 8 more than 3? Mega Man 8 has to be one of the most uninspired and boring games I've ever played.

I understand the mixed reviews to a degree. The charge sound for the Mega Buster is incredibly annoying but you're forced to have it charged at all times. I think 4 is the best in the series as far as overall gameplay goes. Mega Man 2 is my favorite but the controls can be sketcy. No matter what people say about 5 and 6, they demand a high dollar in cart form, especially 5.
