I was just wondering if I was alone in the fact that my favourite is Super Mario Sunshine. I don't even know why I like it so much, it's just...... great!

@OP Dude me too, high-five. Second would be Galaxy 2, and after that maybe NSMB Wii. Still haven't had the chance to experience World and still haven't beaten SMB3, so that's my excuse on those two classics.
Also if we're talking all Mario games, and not just main platformers, then TTYD and BIS are up there with the best.

And I've never played any of the sports games except for the GBA golf game and I didn't like that one very much.

Mine's Super Mario Sunshine, although It was the original Super Mario Bros. for the longest time, until I got to World 5-3 or maybe 6-3. G-d I hate that level. Anyways, I enjoy Super Mario Sunshine because of many things: It's theme, it's feeling of a connected world, it's stunning visual style, it's wonderfully crafted levels which are fun to explore, lots of fun and challenging things to collect, and most importantly it's creative use of water, especially with the Water pack. There's really nothing about the game that I dislike one bit.
Well I like most of the mario games but I will limit my answer. For mario platformer 2d= Super mario bros. original 3d=Super mario galaxy 1(2 is close 2nd) For sports game Mario baseball the wii game For rpg Paper Mario 1 For alternative(other mario games) Mario Kart 64
I'll just say that outside of the Mario RPGs and Super Mario 64 (kinda), the rest of the games I've played aren't even worth mentioning as far as I'm concerned.
@Mickeymac Would it be fair to say you dislike Mario the same way I dislike Wayforward? I know it's a series vs. company comparison, but otherwise it's fairly similar.
Just throwing out there that NSMB (DS) is my least favorite Mario game and the closest I feel the series has gotten to having a "bad" game in general.
