Whenever they did this with the DS games they didn't have anything of much interest to pick from at the one closest to me. Of course that was about 4 days after the sale had begun . I'll be going online for this one.

For some strange reason I don't believe you....

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

Toys R Us runs this deal fairly often. Target has done it once or twice too. I usually stock up! I need to get some more 360 games and this might be the perfect opportunity. Thanks for the heads-up!

Spiffy. I just bought a few things in the recent Toys R Us sale (and tried to use the amazon.com sale as well but their system had this picky rule where all three items had to be shipped from the same vendor and I just couldn't find a qualifying trio under that condition) but I'm sure I could come up with a few more options to look for in this sale.

For whoever was talking about preorders earlier, if it's like the Toys R Us and amazon sales it'll probably only apply to a select list of games in the first place and that list will exclude games that aren't released yet.

Damn. I need to find another $39.99 Wii game that's amazing, then.

Did anyone else have trouble with their local Best Buy regarding this deal?

They tried to tell me that 2 of the 3 games had to retail for exactly $59.99 -- and I had only Wii games, so all three were at $49.99. So, the woman at the checkout said it couldn't be done unless I went back to get some $59.99 games; I tried (nicely) to argue that I didn't believe that was the way it was advertised, and she called in the manager from the games area, who then said the same thing, but thankfully had a copy of the advertisement with her. I pointed out that the ad said "Wii, PS3, and Xbox360 games", and there aren't any 59.99 Wii games! I also pointed out that the signs for the deal were in the Wii games area, just under the normal games that I bought.

They finally let me do it, but never admitted they were wrong, instead basically saying they would alter it just for me because the advertisements were confusing. So irritating... I hate going in for an advertised deal, following the rules, then being made to look like I'm the one asking for an exception to be made.

Hahahaha. I'm laughing because Best Buy employees don't know how to give discounts. They're so used to charging MSRP on everything and then having that sign outside that says "Best Buy" when it's basically false advertising.

They gave me similar crap, WW. First they knew nothing at all about it...and in fact told me there was no such sale, and that I was probably thinking of another store.

Then another associate walked up and said, "That sale starts Tuesday." I politely asked him if he even knew what we were talking about, as I really doubt he overheard the whole conversation, and he shrugged. (How encouraging.) Eventually the associate got a copy of their weekly circular, and we found the sale.

It was pretty straight forward, but the associate went and got a manager and they had this whole long conversation about how they aren't supposed to be starting this sale yet, but since there's no date in the circular they'd give me the price now.

What princes they were. How selfless of them to give me the sale price on the actual day that the sale was to begin. I think I'll be sending them all Christmas cards.

As always with this type of sale, the cheapest of the three games is the free one.

I ended up getting Borderlands and Bioshock/Oblivion for the XBox, and Mini Ninjas for the Wii.

I wonder if you could buy 2 games, get one free, and then take the other two games back? Then you would get a game for free.

No, that never works because you'd need your receipt and if you take even one game back, then the promotion becomes void.

The ad in the paper didn't say anything about this sale. Strange.

Edit: It is going on on their website. Woot

Edit #2: I said forget it. I can wait for the games (that I want) they have in their selection.

Apparently Chicken and I just made this whole deal up as an elaborate hoax, even going so far as to print the deal in counterfeit circulars, just so we could stand in line and argue until they caved. That's what we choose to do for fun.

You guys aren't the only ones who had problems at Best Buy. I was the very first customer in the door on Sunday and I got two PS3 games and one Wii game. When I took the games up to the register the sales associate rang me up for all three games at full price with no knowledge whatsoever of the sale. I showed her the sales ad but she was confused by it so she called over another associate who didn't have a clue about this sale either. They finally called for the store manager and he took care of it for me. It was a big hassle but at least they were pretty nice to me about it. It seems that the sale wasn't programmed into Best Buy's computer system yet for some strange reason. I'm glad that I finally got my free game but it is really frustrating when the sales staff has no idea what sales promotions are going on in their own store.

My familty got Fallout 3 GOTY edition, Fable 2, Left 4 Dead, Paper Mario, Mario Party, and Bakugan (xmas gift). I think I may go back for a few more xbox games though. I picked out my three, got to the register and they did not ring out correctly. All 3 came up full price. Fortunately, a manager was standing nearby and the situaion was taken care of in a few short seconds. No argueing necessary.

A couple items of note:
Even though this does not work on preorders, you could always buy a game that is of equal value to the game you would like to preorder, then exchange it (unopened) if your preorder comes out in the next couple of weeks (ahem...DRAGON AGE!). Keep in mind that there is a time frame limit on returns at Best Buy.
Also, I suspect that if you bought three games, then returned 1, you would be getting 1/3 the price of the transaction back as a refund. I used to be a manager at JC Penney and that's how we did it. If you bought 1 shirt at 10 bucks and got the 2nd free, then decided to return one, you'd get 5 bucks back. (edit: in the case of an exchange though, it would be 1:1 ratio)
