I'm pretty sure Nintendo was planning on doing that anyway since OoT and MM share similar engines, so they might have figured why not?

Didn't have to take them 4 years to finally revealed it in progress.

I don't believe it but at the same time...it is if nothing else, odd, if this is fake. Like...for who? Or why? If this is fake, I have no idea why it is listed as is.

Even in the case that it's fake, it can't be denied that this news headline has been acknowledged by hundreds of people, which includes users at NintendoLife, Reddit, and Twitter. There's always that possibility that the information has spread around enough to the point to someone that could help this get closer into being a true reality.

Badgering Nintendo had nothing to do with MM 3D. It was in development after OoT 3D and before the "Operation" started

Similarly, Operation Rainfall had little to do with The Last Story being released. The operation's impact on Xenoblade is unclear though

I mean, just the fact that this news headline, real or not, is out there now and has been big enough to have been acknowledged by hundreds of people is an accomplishment in of itself.

Pardon the pessimism, but this is a huge stretch for optimism. Rumors have made headlines for many years, and a good number of them never amounted to anything.

If by "unclear" you mean, "single handedly became the gaming controversy everyone talked about that year the moment it started" then sure.

I find this a meaningless theory because even if you believe they released it for other reasons, no one would've cared or bought it had it not been for that initial controversy that lasted long enough for people to pay attention to the incredibly positive reviews (and as a Beyond Good and Evil fan, I know great reviews alone do not equal money, so don't even start with that).

I definitely think Operation Rainfall's imprtance was incredibly overinflated in some aspects, but it's effefct on Xenoblade was profound. They REFUSED to release Xenoblade in the west for years. Now, a few years later, we're getting a port to 3DS, Shulk in Smash Bros. and Xenoblade Chronicles X (which looks WAAAAAAAAY better then any other announced JRPG, yes and that includes Persona 5: deal with it...or...face the truth :3) which is supposedly going to have an international release.

So from say-nothing and do-nothing to "Monolith is the new Square Soft everyone, tell your friends!" Something definitely changed.

Yeah, I'll admit that OP Rainfall succeeded more because of luck. Like the initial crazy stuff that started it plus gaming sites clearly having nothing better to talk about was some great timing. Still give them props because it felt like a reaction to where gaming was going as much as it was to Nintendo making questionable decisions. Like years of watching Wii owners refuse to touch anything that wasn't either super casual or super popular Nintendo games, it was nice for people to say "yes, I want to buy these interesting JRPGs, give them to us" instead of hypocritically whining about Nintendo's problems and then refusing to buy the exact games they say they want on Nintendo. I will defend that group forever for that alone, it was something I desperately needed. The fact that JRPGs have had somewhat of a revival in relevance after this has been wonderful as well, though unfortunately I'm not sure other companies were paying attention.
