So, we currently the ability to watch threads, and it's very easy to see which threads have new posts. However, would it be possible to add a feature to 'hide' threads? There are some threads, such as the gargantuan Smash Bros. and MK8 threads that I have no plans of ever posting in, but whenever I check for new posts, they're always there, cluttering up the list.
.
It's a minor annoyance at worst, but it seems like a feature that would be easy to implement.

Try reading the opening post.

I agree though, it'd be nice if we could get this implemented. Just another level of user customisation to how they use the forum board. I imagine it would be much more difficult to add though.

The OP doesn't want currently popular threads they don't care about to profane their screen with their presence.

It could save a few seconds for some, but I don't see may practical uses for this.

Exactly I got what they are asking but what's the point. If its something you don't want to see then just ignore it. Half the threads here I have no interest here so I just ignore them.

It does seem rather pointless.

i wouldn't mind it either, to be honest. whatever gets people through the day. though there would need to be a way for people to see the threads they're ignoring or hiding so that they can unignore/unhide if they want (e.g. if the OP suddenly gets really, really into SSB and wants to join the existing discussion), and it shouldn't block them from seeing those threads if they click a link, just remove the threads from their 'unread' list or whatever.

What about something like the expanded/collapse buttons that some forums have? Where you can just click on them then the thread disappears and then you can click on it again to bring it back? Isn't that sort of the same thing?

the OP is talking about the thread disappearing from the list entirely so that they're left with a list of only new or ongoing threads they would potentially be interested in responding to in their 'Unread Topics' page. having it simply collapse wouldn't really do much, i don't think, since they're just a line in a list already — doesn't get much shorter than that :3

Wouldn't it be easier to have a customizable "favorite threads" page?

You could like, favorite a thread and then it appears on your "My Favorites" page or something.

Like a mini "all the forums" with only threads you like.

Or hiding by keywords.

I think there are a lot of more important things to add to the site first though. I agree with others that's it's just not that important.

@Ryno: I know you're joking, but you do bring up a related point that deserves addressing: 'hiding' users is a bit trickier concept, I think — i'm not sure how it would work from Ant's point of view, but from mine, invisible posts from hidden users tend to scramble discussions, suddenly there's holes in the conversation and no one's sure who's talking to whom anymore and then when someone finally figures out that they're being ignored by (insert user here), there's just bad blood everywhere. At that point, it's not a question of whether our forums are easy to navigate, it's just a personal vendetta versus another user, and that sort of thing we ask that you all be mature about and just ignore a user if they bother you. :3

You can't really ignore certain threads, though, and if you have no interest whatsoever in 'game' threads, FC-trading threads, or other popular threads that are always seeing replies that put them back in the Unread list, it really does get cluttered with a lot of stuff you may not even care about, lol. I know I've missed certain threads pop up in my list before just because the other popular threads were going a mile a minute, y'know?

@Morpheel: it might help find certain threads, but you'd have to actively Favorite a thread in order to see it show up in that list, wouldn't you? May as well use your Watched Topics list for that. We're talking about customizing the Unread Topics list, though. I know not everyone uses it, but I use it every day, and it really does get to be a chore to sift through all the stuff that I'm not interested in posting in all the time in order to find the genuinely new stuff and check it all out. I can see why someone would ask for this feature.

And yeah, it may not be something high up on the totem pole, but it's an honest suggestion and deserves as much consideration as any of the others.
