You have to beat a dungeon to save. Go to the dungeon select screen thingo and play through one of them. They're not to long, two floors, a boss battle, you get a key, a "score" screen and then it saves.

I would assume it's done that way so you can start a game with other players regardless of where you are. It's actually fairly clever....... even if it makes the single player experience a bit more limited.

I'm in the" sea of trees" in singleplayer, first time I played this, and I can't seem to get past the beginning. :/

Firstly I push the block and then I float over on the moving platform, but then there's a cliff I can't get passed. Is there any way to throw them over or something?

From what I saw in the trailer, it looked like it turned up when they went to certain areas that appeared in the game. I also heard this is how it works. I don't know for sure, though, I haven't even got a chance to play it seeing as I'm in the US, but from what I hear it happens when you're in certain areas.

I think the retro parts are part of the new areas in the game. Not skins.

The "retro skins" are actually separate levels. They are unlocked upon defeating Vaati (well, the first one at least, following ones require you to beat all levels again and get gold/hero keys).

Having given the game some time in multiplayer along with my brother, I must say that I understand why they didn't include online multiplayer. You really need to cooperate, and not being able to talk to each other would make it really hard. I mean, one of the bosses is all about telling each other where to use the sword!
