I used to own a DS Lite, but my brother broke it fatally. I never really felt like getting a new one, but now I am much more interested in getting a DSi, and the release of the DSi XL would be a good reason for it; either I'll get the bigger one or the original DSi gets cheaper. But I was actually waiting for the release of the new successor of the DS Nintendo announced; would it be worth the wait or would I be waiting for 2012?

if you don't care about the features of the DSi/XL, and you have GBA games to play, three years is a long time to go without a DS IMO. at the very least, just replace your Lite if you're worried about whatever's around the corner :3

I already lived 3 years without a DS, and I've got my Wii October 09, so apparently, I'm a survivor. Whatever, I don't want to wait again. Do you think the price of the DSi drops when the DSi XL gets out?

Probably a little -- that's usually how things go, anyway. I wouldn't count on it to be any kind of gigantic drop in price, though.

I definitely am not going to buy a DS again, and I can easily afford a DSi. A DSi it is, then. Just gotta wait until the DSi XL releases. A little pricedrop won't hurt.

I say go for it, I wouldn't be able to wait that long for Nintendo to release a new handheld as all my games would be just sitting on my shelf collect dust.
Well the only Negative thing i fond about DSi XL is that it still doesn't have a GBA Slot, but as for everything else it's a big improve ment over the DS lite/DS but minor compare to the current DSi but by data alone it's better then the DSi in terms of battery life and quality (DS lite still has the best battery life do).
I'm going to pick it up anyway to complete my DS collection.
After playing a bit of Chrono Trigger I have come to the conclusion that DSi is the best portable gaming for me and the best DS period. I don't really want a bigger DSi as it will be hard to put that in my pocket. Just my 2 cents.
Well me when my lite broke i just got anothe DS lite while awaiting a propper DS Successor . I don't get it with the DSi . Instead of concentratin fully on a whole new hardware they get there slap on a handfull of features to a current system & claim its the next best thing .
The DSi isn't worth buying until they have a decent VC service on it!
Which is never as its likely that the DS Successor have a Virtual portable . With the DS successor which the romurs we keep hearing about would have probably starterd being devoloped right after Nintendo finished with there Wii whitch is over 3 years which means it should be coming soon .
I do have DSi now and when the new DSi XL comes out i will get that one too. But told myself that will be the last one only if i drop it but im done. Cant wait for March, my birthday in that month it would be cool a gift to myself.

Since any new system is completely conjecture and any release date a rumour (if you're referring to that front-page article from a couple of days ago, that was an industry person speculating, not an official announcement from Nintendo), you may as well ask if it's worth buying a Wii or should you wait for the Wii 2? There's always something newer, shinier, better on the horizon. Always.
If you're really not bothered, then maybe it's not something you really want in the first place.
I definitely don't recommend waiting for a DS successor. Often a new system takes a little while to get off the ground in terms of games even as people snap it up right and left. I always like to wait a year or two for the system to have an actual library of games to choose from.
Moco Loco If you find yourself spiritually drifting (as I was for far too many years), remember that Jesus can and will walk across the water to reach you and bring you back to shore.
I can't wait to see the next Gen RPGs that will come out for it. Most RPGs are still using 2D SNES artstyle graphics, with the expection of the Square RPgs and the Tales series.

vertual handheld does not need a new ds becuase it could simpily be done in a firmware update

Virtual Handheald would take a bit of time & money to devolope for one system in itself let alone two entire systems . Thats why we never going to see a virtual handheld on the DSi just only on the DS successor .
