Well Ipod touch/ Iphone in my opinion can only compete with DSiWare so in terms of DownLoadable Content or DLC for short, apple has a lot to learn about the video game business before i start agreeing about comparing ipod to a DS (games are not bad do)
These are battling electronics? I don't know of anyone who would choose an iPod touch over a handheld console of any kind.
Well, I can tell you a lot of people who would rather have a phone along with tons of other things then just some brick that plays $35 games.
Are you trying to start a flame war, or just being ignorant? If I want a phone, I'll go buy a phone. If I want to play games, I'll buy a gaming console, not a phone that can play games that are $1 for a reason.
EDIT: and I thought we were talking about the iPod Touch, not the iPhone...either way, I choose the DSi, especially since it can also play music.

But the ipod has tons of free and $1 apps, who doesn't want that!
considering i'm not interested at all in what the App Store has to offer, i guess I don't. :3

I own both. The Touch blows the DSi out of the water with everything the DSi was made for.
However, if you own a DS Lite, since it's pretty cheap, the retail games are still WAY above the quality than what's on the App store at least when it comes to RPGs and action/adventure games. Racing though I'd say App store wins.
Again with the DSi, since they are so similar in cost (8gig Itouch) I'd go with the Touch, it can just do so much more in way better ways and you get way more value for your buck with both the games and with what you can do with it. DSl though... hmmm get the DSL if you want better games.
Definitely the DSi. I do have an Ipod touch and although it serves me very well as portable music player, I think as a games machine it is found wanting. Don't get me wrong, there are some good games on the touch, and the low price point of the games can make it quite an attractive proposition. The main problem with it has already been pointed out, the complete lack of buttons. Whilst some games built from the ground up for the machine do work well, too many suffer from poor and inconsistent controls. Of course, you can't just blame the machine for this, the games developers should also shoulder some of the blame, but I would imagine the Ipod touches deficiencies can make it quite difficult to develop games for.
The DSi. It not only has a camera (major lost on the iPod touch's fault) but it can also play music, albeit with some hassle. It has better games even if they're more expensive, it's backed by a slowly growing but very nicely filled DSiWare store, and actually HAS buttons with major games also standing as a solid foundation.
