Well Chrono Trigger is better then Final Fantasy IV in every single way but the DS version is a SNES revamp so if your a SNES fan or 16 bit fan definitely you will love it however if your not well at least Final Fantasy IV has upgraded graphics but even so 16 bit style Graphics are in my opinion is still prettier then DS 3D graphics.

I don't have a system that plays GBA games.

how is that relevant? CT was re-released for DS, not GBA. :3

Oops wrong quote. I meant to say that to this one.

It's much better than the DS one.

Chrono Trigger. I think FF4 has the better story, but CT's is still good, and the gameplay is miles better.

I'd argue otherwise, on both points.

Actually story is pretty close, since the last few plot points of FFIV suck but it's otherwise great.

Actually gameplay wise they're pretty close, my original point against Chrono Trigger's gameplay, was the battle system, but otherwise the gameplay is great so they're still close. (Although all things considered I guess I'd have to go CT).
FFIV has a better battle system though, since FFIV isn't ridiculously easy.

o.O well this post is dramatically different than first intended. It kind of looks wishy-washy at first, but really it's just exposition

Yes I knew that, but I have a DSi.
Oh, I just remembered that my dad has a DS Lite!
Bingo!

Down to personal tastes I guess. I loved FF4's story the whole way through, but I felt the battle system was too simple. Perhaps it was more challenging, but I still got bored from doing the same damn things. CT on the otherhand had a good story, but I felt more like a cartoon show for the most part, especially during the beginning. I enjoyed the battles a great deal, though. It offered a lot more to do and required more strategy to win, or at least to win as quickly as possible. Sure, it may be an easier game, but I find it to be more fun, because it offers more to do, and you can experiment to find the most efficent, or at least most "cool" way to win. It actually gives you a reason to battle other than to gain experience.

Either way, Toonlink, you can't go wrong. Although I think Chrono Trigger might be easier to find.

FF4? Not ridiculously easy? Huh? Unless you mean the DS one (which was quite difficult, FF4 is insultingly easy. The GBA version (US, not EU) has several bugs too. Great game though.

The DS version of FFIV is the original that was released in Japan, difficulty wise. The original release of that game in the States was a watered down version in terms of difficulty. Even so, I have not found much need to grind in FFIV on the DS at all. So the story progression and level progression are fairly well balanced.

As far as length, FFIV is also significantly longer for a single play through and if you are completionist, doing the new game plus and new game plus plus could run the length of FFIV out to 75+ hours. On my first and on going playthrough of CT, I got near the end game in about 15 hours and then stopped to do some of the added DS content. I think if I discount the time that takes, my final time for my first play through will be under 20 hours, where my first play through of FFIV is at almost 26 hours currently, and I still have to go get Bahamut and then do the final dungeon, so I figure I will get to the 30 hour mark or so. Of course this is if length is an issue to you.

As far as things go over all, I do like CT more. I like the fact that they kept the original 16 bit sprites and that I can choose my own party, not get stuck with what ever the game tells me I need to use based on the story.

If these are my only choices, it's FF4. but truthfully I'd pick FF6 over both.

Flandre Scarlet, she's cute, she's colorful, she can blow up entire cities, she's also a vampire. Start running sparklepants.

This is true. I played the original, and it wasn't too tough until the last boss, and I got so annoyed I stopped playing for a while before I beat it.

FFIV isn't that easy. Sure it should go smoothly for the most part, but unlike CT losing to a boss every so often happens.

In CT one should almost never lose, there's an exception or two, but for the most part its that easy. Random encounters pose zero threat since they deal pitiful damage.
