I'm currently on Mission 11 (Mission 6 was a B%$&#!) on Normal Mode. I'm just curious if anyone put the effort to beat all 12 missions.

Crap, there's 12 levels? I'm only on level 03.

I got stuck on level 10 and gave up. The difficulty level was just insane sometimes.

That level where you had to defend a big ship in space, I beat it with the ship at 1%. It was stupid. lol

Out of curiosity, especially since I payed a whopping 10 dollars for it, does it get any better after the second stage? I hated the game so much at that point that I stopped playing. The pesky little ships that constantly hover around you have to be some kind of joke. Should I stick with it for better levels or is this just a type of game that doesn't appeal to everybody, especially ME? I feel totally ripped off.

If you pay the highest possible dollar for a game, it should be either long or very challenging. I'm very happy to hear this news of difficulty. Sound Nintendo Hard to me and I loved the NES.

It's more cheap hard to me.
There are points in the game where you'll be in a ground/water ship and air ships are shooting at you and it's next to impossible to hit them and if you're out in the open, it's next to impossible to avoid their shots. Just lots of cheap stuff like that.

Hmmm, I had this on my insta-download list, but I may re-consider tbh

If there was a difficulty setting it would've been awesome, but I find it too hard to even finish. Some people might like that, but I don't. Not at 1000 points.

I'm currently on the Saturn mission with those asteroids. I tried once and the ships got pummeled too much.

Hey guys, I'm the lead developer for Thorium Wars. After reading these and similar forum threads we've seen that we missed the target a bit in tuning the game difficulty. Since we want everyone who's bought Thorium Wars to get the most out of it, I'd be happy to provide hints on getting through difficult portions. I feel that most parts of the game can be beat without too much trouble as long as you know the right strategy (except for the tunnel mission, that one really just requires practice and learning the specific locations of turns and obstacles).

Hardy83, you mentioned the area in Mission 10 where there are four mining platforms in a very large area. The best method for beating this is to first approach the opening to this area without entering it and snipe the mounted guns from long distance. It takes some careful aiming and a bit of patience, but you can destroy many of the guns without exposing yourself, and the skyfighters won't start attacking until you fully enter the lake area.

Then, enter the lake and use the area underneath the platforms for cover from the skyfighters, attacking them when they pull up and turn around to build altitude for another run. Take down the platforms and destroy the reactors when the skyfighters are destroyed or flying away. Note that even after the platforms drop you can still used them for cover.

Work around the outside of the lake while taking out the platforms and reactors to keep a safe distance from missile launchers that can't be target from safe cover. Once all of the reactors are destroyed you can finish off the skyfighters, as no more will spawn after all reactors are destroyed. At that point move to the center of the lake to take on the stingrays.

For dealing with the asteroids in Mission 11, the best strategy is to stay out as far in front of your convoy as possible. It only takes a few shots to deflect asteroids when they are far away from the ships compared to many shots once they get close. If you start falling behind it's better to let a few asteroids slip through while staying far ahead than to let yourself far behidn where you are forced to take on asteroids close to the convoy. Also be sure to hit the asteroids as much from the side as possible instead of head on, as this maximizes the amount of deflection.

I'm happy to provide tips on any other areas, and will be monitoring this thread over the next few days.

I would like some tips on when the game will be released in the small part of the world known as Europe.

Well that was unexpected lol! That was the part I was stuck on. I'll try that thanks. Are you making more games for dsiware? Regardless how difficult some think the game is you have a very nice engine that could be used a lot.

The game text has been translated, but we still need to update the code and submit to Nintendo of Europe. Best case late Q1, otherwise should be early Q2.

We're definitely making some more games for DSiWare, though I can't give away any specific right now. I definitely want to make future games base on the Thorium Wars engine, though none are in production at the moment.

@Arkaein- FYI Thorium Wars is my favorite DSiWare game atm and has immense amounts of replay value. Hope you guys make more awesome DSiWare games and maybe... Thorium Wars 2?

@Spaceboy- Yes, it does get better after the second mission. Especially after you get tech upgrades, it gets really fun, though I personally thought the first 2 missions were pretty fun. I'll try not to spoil too much for you, but there are some water levels, more ground levels, and even some space levels.

@Arkaein: I was really pleased with the effort put forth in your DSiWare release so kudos to you guys. If you guys do plan to return to something similar, multiplayer battles (online if possible) would be pure awesomeness.

Can't wait to find out what else you guys have in store. You guys definitely have left a lasting impressions even in spite of TW's flaws.

@Arkaein Thanks for taking the time to respond to questions about your excellently designed game. I am currently stuck on Sky Defender (Mission 5, I think?). I can't even get past the little drones and ships that peg the big ships you're protecting at the beginning of the mission. Any strategies?
(Also, a suggestion for your future games: You may not want to make the R and L buttons mandatory, as they seem to break very easily.)

@Odnetnin- I attacked the drones from the side or up-close, so as to not hit the ships you are protecting as much. Also, always keep an eye on the radar display, as its really helpful in missions like that.
