I probably won't get one until Nintendo releases some sort of "3DS Lite," or an update to the original system. I generally don't buy game systems the year they come out; I like to wait for an updated version. That, and I usually don't have enough money saved up for one until a year or two after the system comes out.

I don't think Nintendo will be keen on doing repeats of portable games, but it's inevitable.

There were 3 revisions of the Game Boy before the Advance came in, and the Advance was redesigned once.

The DS was re-did 3 more times. So yeah, hope for a redesign, but not really an exact redesign like last gen.

The Nintendo DS was re-did 3 times? I thought it was only two? The Nintendo DS (Phat) and the Nintendo DS Lite (Smaller and neater version of the Phat) Then came the Nintendo DSi which was a completely different console. :)

No the DSi was another redesign. In terms of games it did have DSiWare and then a COUPLE of retail games but that was it so it was part of the DS series. Whereas 3DS is entirely new.

Oh right! Makes a lot of sense now! Thanks!

Nintendo, simply the best company known to man. I sure am glad I grew up with Nintendo and not SEGA (Well, I did own a SEGA Genesis xD). Add my Mario Kart DS FC: 4856-3612-0371 今日はみんなさん!私はIshmael9100です。おねがいします!私はすこしわかります!

I am picking up the 3DS, for sure. The thing is, as much as I want it, I doubt I will pick it up at launch. It sounds like it will be rather expensive (I think it is still going to be worth the high price tag), and with me moving out in the Fall and going to a University, I have other priorities. Maybe i'll save some money on the side this year, and after I have settled into my new place, started the Fall semester, I will probably pick one up then.

Not until after my birthday, which is August 12. Don't have enough money for it now.

From what I've gathered, response to the 3DS in many different gaming communities has been overwhelmingly positive. Even PSP owners are excited about it. I just think people are being smart with their money this time.

There are few benefits to being an early adopter. If you wait then the price of the system and/or its games may drop, the game library will be larger, bugs and flaws will be found, support will improve and firmware updates or hardware revisions will be released. There are no benefits for preordering it - no limited edition devices, free 3DS Point Cards or discounts that we are aware of. AFAIK there are no real disadvantages to waiting on it.

Ya.

I'll try to get it as soon as I can. I doubt it'll be on day one though. The most likely possiblity would be my birthday on April 10.

No. 'Cause I have no money. Good thing I have enough new DS games to tide me over until I do.

As did I. Oh happy day when it comes out.

I just came against a dilema, I might be able to get a PS3 but I will also have the chance to get a 3DS I don't know which to choose

Perhaps your decision can be influenced by the wealth of information on the 3DS over the next two months

No, but if the transfer of downloadable content is pretty straightforward I could see potentially upgrading to the eventual 3DS LL (mine would be Japanese, of course).

I would love you import a console from Japan as i'm a learner of Japanese but thats not going to happen for now. But what I do is import games from Japan as DS games aren't reigion locked. Im getting Tadashi Kanji Kakitorikun, a game that was made in Japan, to help me with Kanji :D

I might have to check that out as I too am trying to learn Japanese (just not that seriously). The Sonomama Rakubiki Jiten seems like a good thing to get as it has 3 dictionaries in one and you can apparently look up kanji by writing in the character (or photographing it? Not sure on that).

Oh and in case it wasn't clear from my initial post, I'm not interested in going to smaller screens. Given the LL was my first exposure to the DS, I cannot see doing that - not like my eyes are getting better with age!
