For anyone who purchased the game, what do you think of it so far? I would love to hear your thoughts before buying this game

Hi! I review 3DS and DSiware games on my YouTube channel: Sawmbrella

It's a bit different from the other Dragon Quest games, but it's really good.

I really like it. If you like RPGs, take the plunge!

The item management is a bit clunky (which is, for better or worse, practically a Dragon Quest staple), but otherwise I adore it.

Also, I love Quillers. They're already some of my new (for me) favorite monsters in the series.

Really liking it so far! I'm around 13 hours in right now and saved quite a few islands. Hoping to unlock the vocations soon, cause it's becoming a little bit of a drag. But knowing it will get better soon keeps me playing

I'm only half an hour in and I'm loving it. The story seems to be better than IX.

Currently Playing:
Yakuza: Like A Dragon
Star Wars: Squadrons
Black Ops Cold War Zombies
Favorite game: Super Metroid

I was mostly thinking what happened to the thread for this game.

Fairly average so far. I'm onto the second island atm. It certainly has potential to grow into something great.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

I'm loving it but I'm not that far into the game. I haven't saved the first island yet.

Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword

I'm 9 hours in and loving it. The characters and monsters look amazing. The humours great also. Can't wait to get onto the classes now.
I would've liked to be able to get the jump on monsters by sneaking up on them like in FFXIII.

@Lynox The vocations will come around Lv 15-17. Just keep in mind that you'll be in for a treat when you first arrive

@Dezzy It gets better once you have access to the vocations. There are certainly a few surprises here and there.

The humour is good.

Maribel says "anyway stop talking so I can get to sleep" to a silent protagonist.

LzWinky

"My name is Maribel"
"I'm Ruff!"
"The protagonist introduces himself"

Square Enix is dead set on making him not speak in front of the player

i finally unlocked the first island. it might take me awhile to beat the game since I have three kids and a baby...but hopefully I will get there before the next Dragon Quest game comes out.

I used to consider myself a big Dragon Quest fan, but something about this one feels a bit "off". Although the Dragon Quest quality is there, it honestly does feel like the designers were trying to make it tedious and annoying for the player.

To put it into historical context, I don't think Ocarina of Time was a good influence on Dragon Quest VII (the former was released 1998; the latter 2000). This one has puzzles (which I don't mind actually), and the switching between past and present versions of locations makes things unnecessarily laborious. To make things worse, there is an extraordinary amount of backtracking and talking to NPCs compared to actual gameplay. Then, when you hit your stride, the game will take members away from your party, drop you into fights you can't win and make you play fairly long sessions without a save point.

Hopefully it will get better now I've accessed vocations, but it just seemed too much for the first 20 hours of the game.

i have a question....how many tries did it take to beat Stripes and Rasher? for me, so far I have tried three times to beat them and keeping dying. it's just by the time I get to them the HP for all my characters is low. They are only 19 (Hero), 19 (Maribel) and 18 (Ruff). What level was your party at when you guys beat them? Ugh I just keep getting frustrated with this lol

Masterpiece.

The first fight you are supposed to lose.

The second time you just keep attacking one until it dies, then attack the other. I beat them in one try.

Thankfully after you access this island in the present time, there are very few battles you are supposed to lose. I only remember one much later.

Question regarding possible glitch

So I visited the volcano island in present time and found a warp point to the shrine. So I checked the other doors in the shrine and the blue was open and led to an island with a beach cave I never been in before... Was that a glitch?
