Ok, so let's talk about a game that is extremely anticipated and highly rumored to be released on the 3DS at some point: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D. In my opinion, Nintendo has been dropping far too many hints about this game, and we shouldn't ignore them.

So let's discuss this game in general and its potential remake! This will be the official thread to discuss Majora's Mask and the possibility of it being rereleased on the 3DS (with a slight chance on Wii U) Should the game become a reality, the title will be changed to reflect that. If, in the slightest chance, the game is being rereleased for Wii U, I don't know what to do, since this is the 3DS forum….But we'll worry about that when we get there!

Now, be civil, and let's talk about one of the masterful Zelda titles that is Majora's Mask.

Well, why create another thread when I can simply change the title to remove one word?

I feel like all these hints are hinting towards a return to Termina and Majora's Mask. That being a sequel for the Wii U. I wouldn't be surprised if they released MM for 3DS as well though.

I remember telling my friend "I think they might make a Majora's Mask remake for the 3DS."

He replied "NO! It should be remade on Wii U!"

A lot of people that want the game on Wii U probably saw that fan trailer on Youtube. Problem is, the Wii U can't achieve graphics like that. It'll be difficult even for the PS4 to have graphics like that. But it was pretty.

That would take a ton of time and assets to remake a game from N64 for the Wii U, I'd much rather them release it on 3DS and make a whole new game set in the same world. It makes me wonder if Nintendo would be afraid to do that though since it seemed so many people didn't like Majora's Mask.

I could not get in to it, but now im older so Im sure I would enjoy it a lot more. But if there is a likely chance of a remake then I am going to wait for that rather then go player the original, I simply cant get into older games if I never played them while growing up.

Aonuma keeps hinting at something. Either he is just trolling us, or it really is in the works. The other possibility it that Zelda Wii U will be set in the same world. That would be nice, but I would rather have something new and a basic remake for the 3DS

@warruz Are you saying you'd be interested in it if they re-released for 3DS or a complete graphic overhaul on the Wii U?

3DS, Wii U it would have to be a completely different game due to its age.

It's not just Aonuma. It's also Miyamoto, and to be honest, there has to be something up their sleeves. Or they're just trolling us.

Agreed. I've been really wanting to play MM again, but I just can't bring myself to hook up the 64 to do it when there is a possibility of a 3DS version being released. I'm sure it's bound to happen eventually.

So the talk of a 3DS version of Majora's Mask makes me wonder: what exactly will change graphically? We all know that the game had some parts that looked absolutely amazing and some parts that just looked bad. In addition, due to its 18 month development, the new source material that was created was….lacking. (Mayor Dotour, anyone?)

So here's your choice.

1) Revise the visuals in Majora's Mask to bring it up to the standards of the 3DS, like was done in Ocarina of Time 3D
or
2) Overhaul the visuals in Majora's Mask by keeping the parts that looked good, but polishing the visuals that need work, which could substantially change the look. (example: the trees just before the Southern Swamp, they looked horrendous, but would be changed to look a lot better in this version)

I hope it comes to the 3DS.

  • Maybe push the graphics more than OOT. The 3ds can do more than that.
  • And my biggest wish; it should have a Master Quest once you beat it once, just like OOT 3D. It would really add replay value and longevity.

The graphics can most definitely be pushed more, and we'll probably see this if this game is released.

A Master Quest would be awesome! Could you imagine doing a new, tougher dungeon with the strict time limit? It would be so intense! I would really enjoy it.

If Majora's Mask came out on the 3DS I'd reconsider playing it again. I got it from Club Nintendo on my Wii a year or so back. First of all it was my second time playing a 3d Zelda title so it was a tad awkward, and the game is so weird and creepy. I don't really like it much. I just got my 3DS and next paycheck I'm getting A Link Between Worlds and then I'm going to pick up Ocarina of Time, but I think I will always prefer 2d Zelda games. Though I did love Skyward Sword.

I didn't play Majora's Mask before, so I would love to get it on my 3DS.

@Tasuki There is a big difference between that and this thread. One is basing hints off an homage to a past game, the other is basing it's hints off of actual hints. That being, Aonuma talking about it multiple times while being vague and giggly about the subject. While purposely throwing the Mask into a game where it literally brings nothing to it other than being a hint.. I mean.. I GUESS you could take it as a homage though, but it really feels like a :wink wink: tease.
