It's been announced that a new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game is hitting NA this winter.

Honestly with the recent trend of Pokemon titles, I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being a free to start game ala Pokemon Rumble World.

I'm positive it will be a regular game, if it was free to play, it would've been out withen the weeks of announcment like shuffle and rumble world.

plus the article says it will hit retail in NA before the end of the year. That means it`s not free to play.

Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword

Seeing that this is a Q4 2015 release for NA, I'd say this effectively rules out a main Pokemon game this year.

All I hope for, is the graphics to be the same as GTI, while having all the pokemon and a long game like explorers of time.

Also I don't think it rules out a new pokemon game, because there is a chance that super mystery dungeon could implement new megas and such from the next game.. considering it'd seem weird for both rumble world and mystery dungeon to be behind and mystery dungeon isn't as easily patched as shuffle and rumble.

I think Nintendo and Pokemon Company would be pretty silly to put a mystery dungeon and a main series game so close together.

HGSS and Pokepark: pikachu were released only 4 months appart, (september 2k09, and december 2k09 respectively) It doesn't mean a pokemon "Z" isn't able to follow up from this game or creep up and release before it.

Any other example I can come up which may be stretching it a bit, is LGFR and emerald, in which emerald was released in Japan litteraly the following week of LGFR's US release.

HG/SS and Pokepark were on different platforms.

Well, Shuffle was announced way before it was released, and the generic "Super" in the title doesn't give me much hope of it being an interesting story. It sounds like a f2p name.

inb4 E3 announces this game will have some kind of compatability to the next game

"Super" mystery dungeon does sound like an odd name.. :/ might be f2p. Let's wait until E3

I wish it was a F2P game, I find these games enjoyable but expensive. I haven't been able to get into the deep mechanics, only the surface level ones, because I get to a point where I would rather play the Main Series Pokemon games. With the F2P model I would have been able to enjoy as much as I want and leave it when ever. I feel episodic could do really well for this type of game. The randomization would mean even without buying all the episodes there is new stuff to do but with all the episodes you get the full story. Just a thought.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I think the release schedule is probably the biggest hint that this game isn't going to be F2P. Shuffle and Rumble World were released within a month of their announcement. This game isn't coming for several months, and the release is staggered over a couple of months. So I think you can rest easy on that front.

I don't think this game is going to be much better though. Usually when they use a generic name like "New" or "Super" that translates to "we're putting out a lazy sequel to make a quick buck". I think this game is going to be GtI 2.0.

I agree I think it's a retail game. If it was a free to start eShop game it wouldn't be announced. Just hope its not the 3DS' big holiday game.

I don't think there is debate over whether it is a retail game, it says it is in the article. I just wish it was F2P, I think it would work very well as one.

Well it certainly seems to be the 3DS' big holiday Pokemon game, but as far as whether or not the 3DS is getting anything else is a big question. The 3DS certainly hasn't gotten much lately.

There's no confirmation from anyone about it being retail, but it's a pretty safe assumption.

Episodic gameplay would be cool as @DefHalan suggested.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 was marketed as Retail, so I suppose it's not out of the question.

I've enjoyed the past Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games, so I will probably get this. Still, I'll add my own input, we haven't got a single screen shot, nor do we have anything beyond the press release. Could it be F2P??? Sure. Could it be retail??? Sure. We. Just. Don't. Know. Yet! So everybody calm down, Nintendo did the same thing last year with ORAS (the confusing wording in the first press release made everybody think it was a new game, not a remake). Lets hope we'll see more of this next month at e3.
