I wonder how this will affect the console's future. They've just lost a court case against them by ex Sony engineer Seijiro Tomita, who took them to court for infringing his glasses free 3D technology. The jury ordered them to pay out about 30 million dollars too.
That's nothing, they've lost things before and many other companies have had similar things happen to them. Nintendo will be fine and things will continue as normal.
If the sentence was just to pay the money, this won't affect them in the long run. For a big corporation like Nintendo, $30 million admittedly isn't that much compared to their $8 billion in income. The court hasn't ordered the 3DS to be taken of the shelves or anything, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The fact that the 3DS has two screens has nothing to do with it. And nintendo's can actually be viewed at different points just not for the same reasons and will pretty much kill your eyes and brain if you're not viewing it dead on.

Not much. Even if Nintendo has to pay the 30 million and then royalties afterwards, it's still going to be able to produce the 3DS, so relax

Respectfully, you do not understand how patent law and infringement violations are judged. They are far more complex and convoluted than the bullet points you mentioned.

This is not going to hurt Ninty very much at all. They'll pay out the sum (which may get lowered either by the court, or via appeal), and possibly have to pay this dude a tiny fraction for units sold (or they may not; i don't know what the judgment specifically said as far as damages — it may be that the lump sum is all is/will be awarded).
