Topic: Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Discussion

I was finally able to tear myself away from Majora's Mask and Smash amiibo training for a little bit and started this game. I only just finished the first couple of basic missions, though. The going is slow at first just like every Monster Hunter game but I can't wait til I get to the good stuff and really start hunting!

Gonna record boss hunts sometime soon tonight, not sure how many I'm going to record...but they won't take long to upload anyways because it's the 3DS.

Getting things off the ground is slow work... At least I'm actually slaying things now, lol

It may be due to a banging headache but I don't understand the gathering hall getting online at all...

And I only tried that because I did all the 2 star quests I can see in single player but no more have opened up :s

So confused but loving the game my 1st monster hunter almost have full Jaggi armour and my insect glaive is on it's 2nd upgrade

So this is my friend's first monster hunter game. I meet up with him online and he's somehow already got end game equipment and his armour's been upgraded massively. He said he did a little bit of grinding online, which somehow meant he ended up joining up on some quests to fight some of the hardest monster's in the game. He's somehow managed to get Dahren mohran carves despite only playing for a day so far. I'm kind of impressed. The best thing? He didn"t realise it was end-game stuff.

Wait you can go online with random people? I thought it was friends list only!

Grizzly... that's definitely not endgame equipment, trust me. Wait until you get to G-rank quests - you'll be laughing at Dah'ren Mohran.

Wow, wouldn't that be kind of unbalanced? What if you're far in the game and go online, and then some n00b comes along and gets killed 3 times?

Yesterday I even played 3 for a bit, and I think dodging and stuff feels better in the demo of this. Like, faster.

I say endgame, I mean that he's got stuff that's a lot further on in the game.

As long as they haven't changed anything you can have up to 4 hunters per room. You can lock your room to keep people out or you can make a specific room to hunt certain monsters or gather or mine. Anyone in the world can join if you're in a room with no passcode. There is rookie rooms though and expert. Still someone not very good can come along and cause you team to fail.

Well Seltas almost managed to kill me on my first hunt against him, lol. I just KNOW the Queen is going to be a nightmare now. xD

Kinda got uncomfortable and had a hard time keeping it still...but my video of hunting Great Jaggi for the "first time" is up. lol
Seltas will be up in about 40 minutes, not sure when Velocidrome will be done. Haven't started on him yet.

It does happen sometimes, but usually that's not the case because the online quests are starred and ranked, and only hunters who have attained the appropriate HR can join. For example, you can't do 3 star quests until you've cleared the minimum number of 2 star quests and beat the urgent quest (urgent quests are the final quest for a given group of starred quests- beating the urgent grants you increased hunter rank and access to the next level of starred quests).

So some low rank Joe Schmoe isn't going to be able to hunt in a 6 star quest, not til he's cleared 1-5 and by then, he won't be so low rank anymore.

However, there is still some leeway with armor and defense and weapon power, and just because someone has access to 6 star quests doesn't necessarily mean they're properly equipped or skilled enough. I've hunted online on numerous occasions where a particular individual joins the hunt and can't carry their own weight, usually resulting in a triple faint halfway through the quest (and admittedly, there have been times where I bit off more than I could chew and did a little fainting of my own lol). But most people have the decency to leave the lobby when they realize they can't handle their own, and if they don't, you can always boot em if it's your lobby (although I would recommend politely asking them to leave rather than just kicking them out without notice- just tell them to come back when they're a little stronger and they'll usually understand). But again, this community is all about helping noobs, and on more than one occasion I have endured a hunter who wasn't up to snuff in the interest of helping them learn and train.

The way the Kecha Wacha and Nerscylla move is just amazing. They just blow some corresponding bosses in Zelda out of the water. The Nerscylla is probably the best spider boss in video games...

Yeah, Kecha and Nerscylla are great. They both have great movement patterns and cool designs. I love how Nerscylla gets more spiderlike as you break pieces off it.

...But wait until you see Zamtrios. HOLY...!!!! Don't look the monster up and spoil it for yourself. Just get to it and be excited.
