Actually "dating sims" are fairly popular in Japan.

Its project Milo but a tad less creepy.

When I was in Japan, my partner and I went to a Digital Media art exhibition, which included a video game section for interactive art (Shigeru Miyamoto was given a lifetime achievement award there, actually).

Love Plus, the DS game, was on show and people were invited to play.

I played it. Laugh all you like, but it's actually a pretty compelling casual game - much like how Style Boutique was criminally overlooked by people who just dismissed it without actually playing it.

Love Plus is not a game for perverts, it's not hentai ffs.

I may actually try it.

Seriously though, this is just Nintengirls. People might say "This game is for perverts and weirdos who can't get a girl irl. Why would you want to spend so much time on a non-existing girl who won't ever love you (neither emotionally nor physically )?"
And yet, millions of people spent, and probably still spend a frightening amount of time on a virtual pet with Nintendogs. And believe me, no matter how much you play catch with it, no matter how many walks you take him for, and no matter how many times you virtually scoop up his virtual poop, he won't really love you either.
It is, in my mind, mostly like any other casual simulation game.

hmm looks interesting. I'd love to see how they do the interaction(no pun intended). The graphics are impressive and so is the use of the gyro sensor.

The chances of this getting an english release are next to nothing. So, if you do want to play this, better learn Japanese

It's a dating game. You convince a cute anime character to love you.

It's a waste of the 3D potential of this game that it's not an adult game, but that's a story for a different thread <_<

These things are super popular in Japan, and often quite innocent in execution - the DS Love Plus is one example. Think of it is a super-expanded version of the dating system in Harvest Moon, without the farming stuff in the background.

People in the west tend to raise an eyebrow at this kind of game, but really, it's no more 'perverted' or 'strange' than say, the Sims.

I would totally buy this if it ended up in up in the bargain bin of a local retailer, better this than Dead or Alive Paradise anyway.
I wouldn't actually use much time on it though, and I usually stay far away from games with no concrete goal to accomplish (how else will I get to mark it as "beat" on my BL? )" />, but I'm honestly curious about how this works.

Also, anyone who doesn't get what a dating sim is, think Persona 3 or 4 without the dungeon crawling.
