You guys do know that Nintendo has done DLC before, right? Smash Bros. Brawl allowed you to share custom levels and snapshots, and Nintendo even distributed some on their own.

Pushmo has DLC too, the whole QR code stuff.

Same with Pokemon Rumble Blast.

And Pokedex 3D.

And WarioWare DYI

I could list more examples, but I think I've made my point.

That's User generated content not DLC.

Ok, but Pokemon Rumble Blast and Pokedex 3D have DLC sent by Nintendo (not user-generated content).

And who says user-generated content can't be considered DLC? You create it and upload it to the game server, other people download it.

I guess you also believe that Wiiware/VC/DSiware are DLC as well?

Tradtionally DLC uses assets not found in the base game compared to User generated content that's made with basic pre-set tools.

and Poke-Dex 3D isn't a game.

Not sure what type of DLC Pokemon rumble is,

But it isn't comparable to this.

Well technically speaking, all digital content that you download could be considered DLC. DLC means "downloadable content," so that would include any games or apps you download from XBLA, PSN, WiiWare, DSiWare, Virtual Console, eShop, etc., along with the usual expansion packs and map packs.

Well, Nintendo did say their paid DLCs will have to be meaningful, and not tacked on as an afterthought. They might be adding whole new stories to the game, even side stories just for those who are really into the series. Just hope it isn't something "required" to understand the plot of the game.

I know Nintendo has said their DLC has to be meaningful and not something like a capcom would do withholding content they already have on the disk and charging extra for it straight away... But I have to say them announcing DLC for a game months away from release seems to defeat that logic to me. Who would be happy with this announcement? All they're saying is they already have other content that you can buy when the game comes out. It's ready? Ok then put it in the game please. If you come up with something genuinely new to add on six months from now then get back to me. Doesn't it seem like a flub to announce this?

That's true. But it could also be that they have it "planned". For all we know, there may have been a deadline to get the game finished and the team could be using some time to work on brand new content that are not really required to fully enjoy the game in it's original state.. If that makes sense. At the end of the day, we have to see what this content they have planned to really know what exactly it's about. I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to release character packs with stories attached. Maybe see scenes from another character's perspective, the after years, "what-if" scenarios.. Or even play as the enemy.

Would also be cool to see stories from past Fire Emblem games tie in with this release, too. Many possibilities. But it comes down to how it's executed.

My concern is Animal Crossing- I'm hoping furniture and items packs are reasonably priced. $1 for a chair or set that's virtual.. Eh, how about $1 for 200 extra furniture items unlocked into the game. Or opening a whole new part of the city in a meaningful way.

They may just go ahead and give DLC in AC for free.

Like they've been doing this whole time with AC City Folk.

Hopefully actual DLC this time though. None of this presents BS.

You're right, it's possible they already needed to have the game finished by now and this DLC is just in the planning stage, but I don't think this game even has a release date yet right? Seems like they should just keep their pre-planning about DLC on the downlow and at least pretend to have come up with the idea post-release.

Exactly. Just as VJ mentioned, though, in a way that isn't done through presents. I mean, keep that feature when it's sent directly from Nintendo as a special gift itself.

@Squiggle

Yeh, they could have kept it a secret...

EDIT: I'm kinda confused. Nintendo will be putting out DLC starting in March (opening it up to everyone, I suppose), but I don't think DLC for FE will be released in that month because the game is apparently set for release in April on the 19th. It will be the first game from Nintendo to support it... Just wanted to point that out. Feel free to correct me.

Oh, and Japan get's demos of these games today...

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy
Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D
Rhythm Thief
Resident Evil Revelations

I'm thinking the whole 200mb Download limit or whatever wasn't true.

well great, now I have to pay to get the rest of a game I'm allready going to be paying for. :/

Only systems you've owened are nintendo ones i take it.

Nope, just never paid money for DLC on 360 ,PSP, or on any of the steam games I own for that matter.

I agree here, i too have never paid for extra content like new maps, levels etc, i dont agree with it to be honest. we pay too much for the original game in the first place i think.

I don't see a reason why Fire Emblem needs DLC?
What am I gonna buy?
Weapons and recruits?
The game should have everything you need to beat the it!

I see games like MarioKart, SmashBro.,Pokemon, or even Zelda games could use DLC
Adding DLC to a game like Fire Emblem is like buying clothes for your chest pecies :/

Paid DLC is always a bad sign, hopefully other big games wont be doing the same. I dont play FE games myself - although trying out the ambassador one I love it.
