It's pretty short with only two tracks unless someone could enlighten me about how to unlock the greyed out ones... I haven't played a Final Fantasy in a long time. FF8 isn't high on my list of favourites either but 'The Man With A Machine Gun' is a perfect song choice. I'm sold. Those swipes in hard mode are pretty hard to pull off and sometimes I wish we could use buttons but thankfully there's a practice mode.
My touchscreen is going to be battered like my DSi one in a couple of weeks hahaha I can't wait.
It was ok, but I much prefer Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure. It may because the demo was so short it didn't give me enough meat to chew on, if I get the chance to play the retail I could feel differently about it.

I thought the swipes weren't quite as accurate as they could have been, especially with how fast the notes move in the harder modes. Overall though, it's pretty good fun, but I guess it's more targeted at the more hardcore FF fans who actually know what all these songs are :L (It doesn't help that all the songs on the demo were never on a nintendo console before either)
Another thing too is that great rhythm games such as Rhythm Thief and EBA brought their songs to life through animations, and I didn't really see any of that happening here. I know there were mock battles, but there was nothing to keep me watching for very long. Even the dynamic segments which needed to be earned weren't that interesting.
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
...that was it... Elite Beat Agents... I was going to use that as an example when I said Rhythm Thief but I couldnt remember the name.
Now that is a game they should bring back with DLC.

I agree the presentation was quite forgettable. EBA and Rhythm Heaven both have very distinctive styles and they could have done something really special with this. The super-deformed characters which all look pretty same-ish didn't help either. I had my doubts about the 'field' mode when watching the trailers and when I played the demo it was clearly the weaker aspect of the game. The battle sequences at least had some iconic enemies and summons.
Fair points, this really is a fanservice game. XD; I'm hoping the main game is more meaty and has some extras. Something along the vein of SSB trophies and a video gallery would be fantastic. I'm just happy there's a pure rhythm game for 3DS, I was put off by the puzzle adventure aspect of Rhythm Thief to be honest.

I think It really helps if you know the songs and there context. I personally found the songs much more lifelike than the ones in EBA (haven't played Rhythm Thief) since I instantly link it to the characters and events from the Final Fantasy games.
I'm no Final Fantasy fan, but the game was pretty fun, and I can imagine it'll be great for fans of the series.
I'm considering picking it up if I ever find it for £15 or less.
Theatrhythm preorders are a bit under $50 here in Australia which is cheaper than usual so I'll bite. Normally I import from Europe but I'm scared the postman won't make it on time before I leave Sydney for study commitments.
@Jamouse: Nostalgia rush incoming! Seriously, I hated FF8 but now I feel like playing it again. What is this. LOL

Please add me as I need more friends.
only ff game i ever played wa ff 8 and i didnt even managed to finish the first cd (of 4). i was very young back then and didnt have access to walkthroughs.
the demo is quite nice but i am no fan of rythm games. except for rythem heaven on DS.
Loved it! Lots of fun. Btw, did anyone have a problem with those green "dots" were you need to hold down the stylus and then swipe the screen a direction when they end? I just can't seem to do those right..
Boy was I ticked off when I first heard this was a rhythm game! After reading about it in Nintendo power and having played all the way up to 12 in the series I'm very much interested in this now. I like how it still has the RPG elements to it even though its a rhythm game. Glad to hear some of you like it. Most are right though that is tailored to ff fans. At least EBA had some familiar song to every one not just a small group. Ill probably pick it up but would also like a demo please!
Sorry to hear that NA didn't get the demo. You guys get the game 3 days earlier than us so that's something to look forward to. I'm practicing both songs every day so I'm not rusty when this game comes out haha. Ultimate mode for the ff13 song is surprisingly hard during the consecutive swipes.
@Xilef: Make sure you keep your stylus touching the screen when you get to the end-swipe. Try dragging the stylus instead of 'flicking' if that doesn't work? I agree the holds can be a bit shaky. I was on my way to a perfect run on FF8 then I tapped my stylus too hard on the screen and it bounced off and broke my hold. Maddening but it doesn't happen too often if you're careful.
Quick question: does anyone know why you sometimes get an Odin/Ramuh summon instead of Ifrit? Does it depend on combo count?
@Tech101 My reaction was the opposite, I was really happy. Finally I can pay for a legit FF rhythm game instead of downloading beatmaps off osu/other fan-made rhythm games. The RPG elements sound like a lot of fun. Which party members do you think you'll choose?

I'm big into final fantasy 4,6,7,9,and 10 so ill probably lean towards those main characters. Cecil and Cloud are probably my all time favorites though!

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
