I have a slightly odd problem with my 3DS. I was playing starfox 64 and must have held the R button down when loading the game. Now the system acts as if the R button was held down permanently. I've tried switching it on and off but to no avail. Every game I load acts as if the R button is held down which makes the games unplayable. Does anyone know of a solution such as a way of reseting the controls?

Try turning the system off completely...never encountered that problem before.

I've tried it several times but unfortunately it hasn't worked

Send it in. It's still under warranty...

Send it in for repair is one option. Another is to use your finger nail to 'lift' the R button as far out as it can go and blow. Pray this is not the return of the dust-under-the-trigger problems pretty much every other DS model system has had, but in a even worse form. =_=

Thanks to everyone who has replied. I'm now certain its a fault with the system so I'm sending it to Nintendo for repair. I must say i'm pretty disappointed that a fault has developed in a device that is that is not even 6 months old and has been well looked after I just hope this is a one off and not a design flaw.

If you haven't sent it already, people have reportedly fixed their DS Lites by blowing some compressed air behind the shoulder buttons - it seems some dust or dirt might get stuck in there and cause the switch to stay depressed. Maybe that's worth a shot first?

EDIT: SnoozerBear already suggested that, I just didn't read the post properly. Anyway, the advice still stands!

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

That sucks.
I hope for your sake they fix the problem quickly and get it back to you so you can continue enjoying some portable 3D gaming goodness.
I sure hope this isn't going to be a common problem because both my DS Lite and DSi have problems with their shoulder buttons.
I keep mine in a case all the time where the shoulder buttons are completely protected so I'm hoping they continue to work.

Edit: Only problems I've had with my 3DS are with the bottom screen scratching the top screen, which you can only slightly notice when the system is off and not at all with it on anyway, so that's not so much of a problem at this stage, and sometimes lately my battery seems to be running out really quickly even while in sleep mode but we'll see how that pans out... I'm yet to have a situation where I've been out somewhere and my 3DS has run out of battery leaving me bored with nothing to do, and I usually keep my netbook with a USB charger in my bag anyway so no biggie.
I'm just hoping I don't have any major problems with it, at least until after I've got a new model with two circle pads.

Just a quick update. I've managed to resolve the issue thanks to the suggestions made by SnoozerBear and Wheels2050. By blowing extensively into the R button it seems to have come unstuck and is now working again. Thanks guys, you have saved me a lot of hassle.
