I do hate that battle mode is not what I expected. When I think of Mario Kart, the fondest memories I have is playing four player battle mode, for hours in battle arenas in Mario Kart 64 with friends! Good times! I was in fact looking forward to playing battle mode more than the racing! Just this time, against family members...ooh the misery I was going to inflict upon them in the arena! Then the Mario Kart 8 Nintendo direct happened, and crushed all my hopes! I looked at all of the web pages talked about in this article looking for a positive remark about battle mode, but could not find any. This has made me, sadly optimistic to play Mario Kart 8 now.

Update takes about 10 - 15 minutes. I was having the gamepad buttons and controller stop responding during Mario Kart 8 before the update last night.
