I tire of Pachter. I feel like he says these things just for the sake of saying inflammatory things. Either way - he gets paid for his opinions and I don't.
I had the precise opposite problem - I went out on Friday, bought Nintendoland, got home and received a call from Asda letting me know that their Wii Us hadn't been delivered, and that I would have to wait until about December 15th.
Between them, Capcom and Ubisoft have done a lot for Nintendo, with the Resident Evil series and the Rayman games, respectively, really bolstering the last handful of the Big N's consoles, both at launch, and throughout their lifespan. Rayman Raving Rabbids, I seem to remember, was a highlight of the Wii's launch line-up, with Resident Evil 4 and other series titles proving part of the console's best quality software to date. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries and Super Street Fighter IV practically headlined the 3DS's launch, with a lacklustre port of a Rayman title attempting something similar, and, of course, the much needed boost of a (used to be) exclusive Resident Evil: Revelations, which was, in my opinion, the best Resident Evil since the original. Now we have the two developers, once again, playing important parts in the launch of the Wii U - with the bold, exclusive ZombiU and the perfectly adapted Rayman Legends - so that Nintendo can rely on them to demonstrate hardware potential.
I think that Nintendo's decisions regarding how to play the whole on-line messaging shtick shall be telling, not only of the systems perhaps long-term or cores success, but whether the Big N's priorities are quite the same as those for whom they ought to cater. This is particular issue will be a fairly accurate signal, I think, of quite how Nintendo is marketing itself, and to what degree of success.
As far as I'm concerned, carry on as normal. Zelda is the best franchise Nintendo has going, and it is highly unique. I know that Nintendo will gauge Lin k's Wii U outing just right in terms of what classic elements to keep, and which new elements to throw in - They have been doing it for decades.
I can see this, along with Mass Effect III, Assassin's Creed III and Batman Arkham City forming the entirety of my Wii U Library in the "launch window".
Something tells me that this will be like the PSVita's Welcome park - an out-of-the-box app with painfully small replay value. I hope Ninty proves me wrong.
They released this just to pander to the hardcore Gamers they seem so willing to attract, and to make the current market saturates easier to port over, because the Wii U was apparently "so hard to dev for" - that way, I think, they can get the 'Hardcore target-audience' bullcrap out of the way and get back to what they do best - making new, awesome games for new, innovative tech.
NintE3ndo Direct was great. I think they're hitting all the right notes with the GamePad, and the Wii U itself, by the sounds of things - Vastly Improved online, well built 'in-house' online system, but yet heavily integrated with other devices. This is shaping up very nicely!
Personally, I really loved the concept that AC3 was suggested to utilise - the use of the Wii-U Tablet for display of in-game files and documents, as I'd sit and eat dinner with it, or read it on the loo :L
What? Don't tell me you never played GB/DS on the loo ¬_¬
Frankly, I don't think CoD's primary market are that interested in innovation - or the franchise would have flopped years ago. I have a PS3, and it seems to me that those who have a Wii, and will have a Wii U, are interested in fun and user experience, and those who like CoD, and Xbox 360s, are not. I would buy CoD BO2 for Wii U, but I rather think I would be one of very few in line at Game.
The folders are pretty good! Makes everything so much easier, but could do with more than one letter to differentiate, but then the name is displayed on the top screen. A nice touch.
I Agree with #72, but also think that Independent 3rd Party devs are important to all consoles, be they handheld and Nintendo or otherwise. Small, new companies with new, innovative games, I think, is what people will want - and what better company to choose to make the hardware than Nintendo? What has changed on the Sony and Microsoft Platforms over the past few Generations? Painfully little. Nintendo consoles are ever changing, and therefore the content has to be as such. I'm not saying that staple titles like Mario and Zelda should be forgotten, but as the tech evolves, and it always will while Nintendo is a major player in the gaming market, the games that make the tech should evolve too.
Not everyone is happy - I need the registration tool, due to difficulty with my system. Bought before Aug. 12th, Have receipt - don't have free games yet

"Is E3 Dying"
Nope - this year was just tutti.
Re: Miyamoto Talks Down Idea of 3DS Redesign
You could always Streamline the screen set-up, enhance the button layout and double the circle pad capacity - Then you'd have a PSVita.
P.S. - I didn't buy one of those.
