Re: Mario Calculator

sirgrim

I spent the 200 points left over from MFC on this. It's not that bad. Would have been must-get for free. Can't complain though, the conversion is cool. The sounds it makes set it apart from other calculators, and it will be useful for checking my finances from my DSi.

I went with this over the clock, because it's actually useful to me. I do hear the clock has some cool run-n-grab-coin game included though.

@totallyNECTAR

I agree, people should take a full review before judging. My first impressions were just that. There might be ways to enjoy the game and get your money's worth. I just find that hard to see. We'll see what the NL full review does for the game. IMO there's plenty of better games to be had on the console for your 8 bucks. The art style and quirkiness set the game apart, but the gameplay and music do nothing to keep it there.

Those that do look into my Monkey King recommendation, don't pay over five bucks for it. It's that game's sweet spot, like it probably would have been for this one. I really like it's art though, and the box was "megaman'd" compared to the foreign version.

Eduardo is extremely repetative, bleh game. It's so easy I just blazed through 7 levels in 30 minutes and I don't even know if I died. The art work is cool, but overall the game feels uninspired.

I came across a single music track, which was bland. The black and white levels look cool. There's no scoring system, and it is an extreme button masher. You can't hold the button to repeatedly shoot. Coming across weapon upgrades there are only a few. An automatic shoot, a 3 way shoot, a toaster-fart bomb, and dropping bomb toast.

There's one level that is a veritical scroller, and another level that was flying. So there was a small change of pace. However angular shooting with the d-pad doesn't work too well, so I mostly found myself shooting up/down/left/right. I tried the classic controller, and it doesn't have analog stick support.

When enemies get close to you, the toaster automatically hits them, or you can throw them at other enemies or just to finish them off. There is an easy (lol), normal, hard and crazy-hard setting. I was playing on the hard. You can select how many lives you want up to infinate. Maybe selecting how many lives would make it even harder, but it would still feel extremely repetitive.

Might be worth it for 500 points, but definitely over priced for what you get. So far, it would only earn a 5/10 from me.

Go to gamestop, pick up The Monkey King for $5 and you will have a decent co-op shooter that is a little more fun and save a few bucks.

I'm with you, slapshot82 they're by far my favorite publisher. Except this year. They keep releasing to many awesome games! I'm going to end up in the poor house. I'm even tempted to finally get a PSP just to play Class of Heroes.

Re: Review: Knights in the Nightmare (DS)

I preordered it for the sweet art book, but haven't got it yet. Amazon super saver shipping is extremely slow, I should get it on Saturday. I went the slow route because I have way to many other games to be playing right now anyway, and would have picked this up later if it wasn't for that art book

Re: Exclusive: The Conduit Wallpaper

Yeah Nintendo Power called it the best FPS on the Wii. Obviously it's horrible! That, and NP hates everything but Pokemon. I suspect we'll see a few 9 at least. The 6.5 review was fake.

Can't wait for my shipment of this one to arrive. Amazon is being extremely slow. For us that pre-ordered it we get a schwanky art book that looks awesome.

Be prepared for a large learning curve, followed by one of the most hardcore games in a while.

Not sure if your metacritic is working, it's up there. Here

I hear ya WeeGee. I'm not a huge puzzle fan, unless it's a puzzle-platformer. However this one is great. The old school feel alone makes it worth having. The coins, and buying options are a great bonus too. Everyone I've showed it to has loved it. I may have sold a DSi for Nintendo just so they can get their own copy

Re: Nintendo Download: Masks, Crystals, Chess and Art (US)

PictoBits is pretty fun, and a welcome DSi title. I'm now officially out of the free 1000 DSi points (Dr. Mario/PictoBits). I'm going to download the Chess in the next day. Since I work nights it's a little something to do. IGN says it's barebones, and lack of online is one of their gripes. I don't really mind. For 500 points it doesn't look bad.

The first Art Style game didn't appeal to me, I'm not a huge puzzle fan. Only like a few, like Tetris, Soduku, Dr. Mario, Tetravex. I do love puzzle platformers though. I'm going to download today's Art Style, it looks like an interesting twist on the Tetris types, and seems to make good use of the DS touch screen. Going to pick up the Chess game in the next few days. Hopefully NintendoLife gets up a review of that one quickly.

We need a review of this game. At 19.99 new it looks interesting.

Re: Excitebots Crashes Out At Retail

Not my type of game. I'm not big into racing games, and just prefer normal ones when I do play them. I don't need to do flips, or play poker etc. If other people like it then that's good. I love plenty of games that others don't get.
