Wouldn't it be unfair if it did have different types of ships? I know the multiplayer is suppose to be co-op, but according to the press release, it can also be competitive, so they have to keep things fair for that reason. Oh, and I too would like to see a disc sequel. Geometry Wars: Galaxies was fantastic!
If this is any bit as good as Torus troopers, I'll get this game. Torus Troopers was mezmerizing, and possibly the best shooter game I've ever played. All it was missing really were power-ups and multiplayer, which Gyrostarr has, otherwise it was perfection!
For me, Tetris is one of the few falling-block puzzlers that I like(besides Lumines and Meteos), and I never liked most of Mario's spin-offs(more of a Sonic man myself, though Meanbean Machine sucked arse), so you're basically asking us to choose between a classic puzzle game(my favorite puzzle game) and a Mario spin-off that's basically Puyo-Puyo(my least favorite puzzle game) with a twist. Not to mention it did what Online RX failed to do, 6 player online vs., BABY!
What are you talking about, out of all of the people who own this game, only one person was dissapointed, and he owns every shooter known to man(sorry to sound insulting, but I don't know how else to word this)!
In any case, you're right, there needs to be more 6's and 8's. 7 has become far to vague to get a handle on how high of quality(and fun) a game really is.
What does GMT mean, and why is it 5 hours ahead of my clock? And will somebody please answer this before it gets deleted, otherwise it's just going to drive me nuts.
Is the remote tilt control? And if so, does it have an option for D-pad control? I like tilt control and it feels very natural, but it is admittedly difficult to make precise movements with it, especially the kind necessary in a shooter game.
Star Soldier R is Wiiware's answer to Geometry Wars, Gyrostarr has a completely different focus, that's why the leaderboards only go to the Top 20. I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy it, too bad you've effective wasted your money on something that could have been spent on something a little more worthwhile depending on your interests. It's also too bad all I can do is pour salt in the wound. Oh well, sometimes you gotta hurt before you can heal, or something like that.
I know leftovers make things easier, but it also tempts me to make my next buy sooner, and I don't have a credit card(point xards too far away), so all my purchases have to go through my mom, and I always had trouble speaking to her, and she doesn't like it if I spend money too often. Plus, leftovers are just plain ugly to look at!
Wait, are you saying there's something along the lines of a leaderboard? I love leaderboards! This game keeps on getting better and better! I can't wait until tomorrow!
Okay, so at least it tells you your overall score, I'll just write it down like I used to with Galaga and Xevious.
And Knuckles, while I can tell that Pop is great by looking, I'm a bit of a Star Soldier fan and a definate space shooter fan, so I'm going with SSR. Besides, I'd have 100 points left over if I went with Pop+Gyrostarr, and I hate leftovers.
Which Mario game to go with really depends on your level of patience, to be honest with you. My first was Super Mario World, and had it been any thing else, I would never have become a fan of the series, because SMW has a save feature between levels, so you don't need to repeat the entire game once you get a game over. However, if you havr the patience to repeat well-designed levels over and over again, then I suggest you go with the original Super Mario Bros., because it's just a joy to play, even without a save feature. I suppose you could go with SMB3, but honestly I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as Super Mario World, or even the original Super Mario Bros. for that matter.
@Tony Yah, I could never last 5 min. in the story mode, and never tried the 5min mode, but SSR looks totally awesome, and the leaderboards make it even better! I can't wait to play it in between Gyrostarr sessions!
Yah, I've been struggling with that choice for weeks now, but thankfully Alex Kidd made everything so much easier(get both later). I had also been struggling with whether or not to get Pop, but the Gyrostarr review will answer that question. It's also nice to hear you enjoyed Star Soldier R, it's a shame that it hasn't been selling very well. I've wanted it for a while now, but I wanted to get it at the same time as either Pop or Gyrostarr, but come tomorrow, the wait will be over.
It's only 700 wii points? This is perfect! I have 500 points leftover from launch, and now, not only can I get this, but I can get Star Soldier R as well, without any extra leftover points. I was also planning on getting either Toki Tori or F-Zero X, but I couldn't decide which one to get. Now, with Alex Kidd, I've decided to put them off a little while longer and get Alex Kidd(hoping for Super Dodgeball, but only because I couldn't imagine Ninty giving us this great SMS game for at least month) and River City Ransom(which I had resisted spending the extra 500 on), and now I can get both(TT+FZX) next time. Not only that, but if it turns out Gyrostarr isn't for me, then I could just get Pop instead, and this would still remain a perfect moment. Plus, since I too have to study for tomorrow's Regents(heck, I got 2), this makes a perfect excuse, not only to wait for the review, but also to get a new game in general.
By the way, good luck on your Regents, RetroWare, and if you're like me and have biology tomorrow, then you're going to need it(who remembers this stuff?!).
We were talking about DYC, we just happened to be talking about reader reviews at the same time.
Speaking of DYC, I was wrong, I was stuck on level 51, not 61-ish. Now I'm stuck in the 60's(or at least that's when I decided to stop). I also tried the heroic mode, and it kicked my arse! I only got to level 4! This game is really hard, even on co-op, though, the only time I did play co-op was at level 40, thinking starting from the beginning would be too boring(I didn't realize the game jacks up the difficulty when you play co-op), and basically convinced my brother to never play this game again.
Oh well, guess that's how the cookie crumbles, or something like that. I'm going to go doodle some comics and pretend that it's studying so I can play this game again undisturbed".
G-D!!! Why do I still not have this game?!?!?!?! The more I think, the more I want, yet I never get it. I don't have F-Zero X, I don't have Alien Soldier, I don't have Gunstar Heroes, I don't have Lords of Thunder, I don't have Toki Tori, now I don't have this! What is my problem?!?!?!?!?!
Darn it, this looks so fun, but I don't know which one to get, Toki Tori or F-Zero X...arghhh!!!! It's so perplexing!!! What do you people think, this or my all time favorite racer?
Thanks, you inadvertantly answered all of my questions and convinced me that the game is fun and worth buying, as I quickly went to the video review from that IGN link you posted. The review was very helpful, especially since it showed, and explained, a lot of the gameplay. It also gave a different take on the Virus Busters portion of the game, saying how it's better for co-op, but can be done competitively. Now I'd buy it just for the Virus Busters, though the rest looks okay, too, since it doesn't seems like the computer screws you very often by giving you a piece that you can't use, especially in Virus Busters, as it seems like it would be physically impossible not to find a use for one of them. Once again, thank you, and thank you IGN for reminding me why I used to go there so much.
Not to say the review here is lacking, it was informative, it's just that, what I really needed was a video that isn't ripped from the Nintendo Channel, because that one wasn't ever really all that helpful to begin with.
If you ask me, a cheat machine is all you need to get Mew. They're more expensive than Pokemon Ranch, but at least they're less time consuming, and you can get other good pokemon like Deoxys. Too bad I'm done with pokemon, my brother sometimes hastles me to finish Pearl so we could finally make good use out of that Action Replay I got.
This sounds interesting, not to mention incredibly robust for a Wiiware title. Too bad I was never really interested in sims, except Animal Crossing, plus, I have a strict embargo on any game with both "Final" and "Fantasy" in its title. That price tag ain't exactly reeling me in, either. Oh well, I guess I'll have to pass on this one, but otherwise I'd give it a YES (numbers are so arbitrary).
I guess I didn't make myself clear. You see, I love Tetris, along with the other two I mentioned, because they don't have a tendency to ruin your game, so long as you didn't make a sloppy mistake. All the other puzzle games I played always felt too cheap, like they were just throwing out pieces at random and messing me up, and wind up being too frustrating to enjoy. I just want to know if Dr. Mario ever does that.
You should try playing the online version, if only to make you appreciate the Wiiware version more when it finally comes out, 'cause trust me, the wiiware version is much better.
DYC controlled better, too. I played the internet one, and thought it was awful, at least compared to the Wiiware one. x.SuperMario.x, you don't have to try it if you don't want to, just keep that in mind, along with the fact that it's only 500 wii points and only takes 100 blocks, okay? Darn it, I should be a salesman, I tell ya...
Anywho, World of Goo is definately one of my most anticipated games. It seems so creative and original, it looks even more fun and original than Defend Your Castle(bearing in mind, I didn't know about the online version after I played the Wiiware version). This is the reason Wiiware was invented(along with being a quick cash-in for Nintendo)! Yay Wiiware!!!
Okay, so Penny Arcade has a game, now Homestar Runner has a game? Okay, now the next Internet guys to get a game should be VG Cats! Those guys are awesome! It would be like a combination of Penny Arcades and Homestar Runners, only it would have settings that would spoof other games and movies, and it would have those context-sensitive button actions like Conker did. It would be Awesome!! Awesome!!!
Judging from the screenshots, you apparently have to capture and hold a certain facility(s) for a certain amount of time(counting down, I think), while fighting off enemies that will try to stop you from capturing said facility(s). That's only a guess, but I don't see how it could be interpreted any other way.
Yah, this is probably going to do good. In fact, I was excited for this game, until I actually saw the game. I hope everybody watches the Nintendo Channal video before they consider buying it(that's what it's there for folks), because it's probably gonna make or break(most likely break) their decision.
Yah, I got lost a lot(east is not left), tried to do things too early(turns out you can't bend fire with gust), and just plain obsessed with things(what is the point of these windmills!!). So, while the ending did feel abrupt, by the end, I just wanted to be done with it all.
I hope the new one doesn't come out any time soon, because honestly, erasing Lostwinds 1 freed up a ton of memory. Seriously, I had room for maybe one more Wiiware game(reserved for Gyrostarr, obviously), and now I can fit 3 easy. If Lostwinds 2 is longer than the original, I won't have room for nothin', and I was being careful too(only 5 NES, 1 SNES, 1 N64)!
If it is M-rated, it probably won't be that scary, because it will probably will have blood and guts and stuff, which, by now, isn't all that scary, just cliche. The picture remind me of nightmares from the dark crevices of ones mind, that of which I have been before, and trust me, it's dark(shoulda brought a flashlight).
By the way, I see you changed you avatar, RetroWare, I didn't recognise ya. It's a definite improvement, though. You're old one was too, uh, busy, as someone worded it. Good choice.
Yah, I see what you mean, now that you mention it. Oh well, it's coming out this Monday anyway, now lets just hope we get that one VC game everyone wants. Hmmm...maybe we should try Tony's method? I don't want Earthbound!!!
I have high hopes for this one. I never played Tempest, but I did play Torus Troopers, which seems a lot like this game, and High Voltage did make Tempest 3, which I heard was pretty good, so I'm sure they'll do good on this one too.
I hope it doesn't cost too much, so that way I can get Star Soldier R or Pop, which I had been putting off, along with Toki Tori, until Gyrostarr. Now that I think about it, I had been putting off a lot of good games waiting for Gyrostarr, and many of those games aren't exactly selling well either. Has anyone else been putting off these games off these games for Gyrostarr? It's okay, I guess so long as I amend that come Monday.
I find it funny that this information comes like the day after I tell people wait and not get their hopes up. Jokes on me huh?
Oh, and there's no online scoreboards, multiplayer and the amount of stages is supposed to be the selling point, apparently.
Get this now, you won't see Gyrostarr for a while, and by then the tournament will be over. I haven't gotten this yet(waited too long), and I've got to exams now, and I just got Profosser Layton, yet I'm still gonna beg and plead for my mother to let me get this(she's got the credit card) so I can enter the tournament. When does the Tournament end?
I'm double posting to double the chances of this getting answered
I've never played Dr. Mario before, how is it? I've played falling block puzzlers before and I've honestly never liked them, with the exception of Tetris, Lumines, and Meteos. Falling block puzzlers(with the exception of the ones I just mentioned) have a tendency to screw you, by giving you a piece that you absolutely don't need, and wind up having to cover up a potential line, because you had to put it /somewhere/.
I didn't get out of Pokemon until last year, with the disappointment of Diamond and Pearl. I'm suprised I didn't grow out of it sooner, I hadn't enjoyed a pokemon game since Gold and Silver, and I detested most other RPGs, most of which were of higher quality than Pokemon. I suppose pokemon just has a way of doing that to people, and the reason why Nintendo can afford to sell crap like this and have it sell so well.
I take back what I said about Critter Round-up, THIS is the most pointless game on Wiiware, or any platform for that matter. And they expect people to pay $10 for it...which people will, which is what makes this so outrageous! Words cannot express how much this game is a NO.
Do I even have to say anything at this point? It's fun and innovative, sure it's short, but just think of it as episodic. Definately gets a YES from me!
I have to say, while I like ping-pong, I didn't like the tennis in Wii Sports, which this reminds me of(ping-pong is miniature tennis, after all), and the anime art style that's too cutesy to stomach is really keeping me away from this game. NO!
Well this is a pointless, awful, rip-me-the-heck-off game. Seriously, I can play better games than this, yet they expect me to pay ten bucks for this?! I'm insulted just looking at it!! Big fat NO!!!!

@superMario
When have I disagreed with you, besides that Pokemon Ranch thing, and I already said I was sorry.
I'm bored here, I'm going to see what they got going on at Wiiware World.
Re: USA WiiWare Update: Gyrostarr
Oh, so no leaderboards, but there is a high score? Fair enough.
@SuperMario
We're on Penny Arcade, right?
@Corbie
Yah, you definately got some esplanin' to do!

Re: Review: Star Soldier R
Get this now, you won't see Gyrostarr for a while, and by then the tournament will be over. I haven't gotten this yet(waited too long), and I've got to exams now, and I just got Profosser Layton, yet I'm still gonna beg and plead for my mother to let me get this(she's got the credit card) so I can enter the tournament. When does the Tournament end?
Re: Review: Dr. Mario Online RX
Does Dr. Mario come with this game-ruining fault?
Re: Review: My Pokémon Ranch
Bill's PC I don't get it? Are you making fun of PCs? Thems fightin' words!
Re: Review: My Pokémon Ranch
I didn't get out of Pokemon until last year, with the disappointment of Diamond and Pearl. I'm suprised I didn't grow out of it sooner, I hadn't enjoyed a pokemon game since Gold and Silver, and I detested most other RPGs, most of which were of higher quality than Pokemon. I suppose pokemon just has a way of doing that to people, and the reason why Nintendo can afford to sell crap like this and have it sell so well.
Re: My Pokémon Ranch
I take back what I said about Critter Round-up, THIS is the most pointless game on Wiiware, or any platform for that matter. And they expect people to pay $10 for it...which people will, which is what makes this so outrageous! Words cannot express how much this game is a NO.
Re: LostWinds
Do I even have to say anything at this point? It's fun and innovative, sure it's short, but just think of it as episodic. Definately gets a YES from me!
Re: Family Table Tennis
I have to say, while I like ping-pong, I didn't like the tennis in Wii Sports, which this reminds me of(ping-pong is miniature tennis, after all), and the anime art style that's too cutesy to stomach is really keeping me away from this game. NO!

Re: Defend Your Castle
This is the best Wiiware game in my opinion, especially considering the price. Finally, a game I can give a resounding YES to.
Re: Critter Round-Up
Well this is a pointless, awful, rip-me-the-heck-off game. Seriously, I can play better games than this, yet they expect me to pay ten bucks for this?! I'm insulted just looking at it!! Big fat NO!!!!
