People, anytime there is an "interview" or "source" from GameIndustry, there is never a way to verify. They have done this several times. This guy's supposed opinion makes very little sense. It's almost as if he is trolling. Why Nintendolife continues to quote Gamesindustry is beyond me
People..there is not Nintendo executive that said this. I have searched the web for confirmation and there is none. It is someone from an obscure site that claims this with no quotes, no citation, no video..no nothing. At launch the Wii U needed a piece of software to be sold in order for it to be profitable. Since you can't play the system without a game. I imagine it was always profitable. With economies of scale I would think that by now, you no longer need to buy a game.
The reason for the large loss on Wii related operations is because they are ramping up marketing efforts, hiring more developers, and since they aren't selling well they aren't recouping this. I would bet anything that by years end you will stop seeing this headline baiting articles
@Ronoh right. my point was it sounded like you thought the necessity of owning another console on top of a Wii U was a bad thing and limited to the Wii U. Whereas I was trying to clarify that no matter what console you have, there are great games on the others and you will most likely need to own more than one to hit that gaming sweet spot.
@Knux exactly. It doesn't matter if you are going to use the feature or not. The fact it is missing yet you charge the same is the issue. Part of the appeal of these types of games is to play with your friends/family. When you take that away you are offering a substandard version. Once it patches the off line co op I will buy.
@Csaw I will buy 3rd party games when they are the complete versions other consoles get. I will buy Rayman Legends, but only after I play all the other great 1st party games coming out soon. If Ubisoft had released it early this year it would have been a first day purchase. I will wait until I have completed the other games I buy or there is a price drop. I will not reward them for going back on their word and delaying a complete game by buying day one. I will get Watchdogs provided it is a complete game. Though, the current trend has me thinking something will be left off. I wish I wasn't so cynical but it's how I have been made to feel regarding 3rd party games for the Wii U.
@Coldfirex44 If they had given the Wii U the complete game I wouldn't say a thing. The fact is they have failed to do so. Just like they failed to provide Rayman Legends as an exclusive. Ubisoft has supported the Wii U and yes that's great. But I would rather they didn't if they are going to cut corners. They are lazy and it shows. Is it so much to ask for a complete game nowadays? Why are people defending them? Are you okay with Arkham Origins not having online too? Just happy to get the scraps they toss us? I'm the one who edited their comment. I'm glad you liked it, but please note that insults are against our Community Rules. Should you continue, you may wind up banned. Please play nice with your fellow users — TBD
@ThomasBW84 one of the major differences between Wii U and the other next gen consoles is the fact that instead of split screen one person gets the gamepad and one gets the TV as you play together. Not having that option negates one of the reasons to get this on the Wii U. So basically, if you and a buddy want to play this game together locally you can't. That is more than a molehill sorry. Don't be an apologist. If you are a fan of this game it's better to get the complete version a little bit late than an incomplete one. Sure, local co op may not be your thing but it's still a factor.
yet another watered down port from a either an incapable or lazy dev. Seriously, this is not going to sell well and then we'll hear how 3rd party games don't do well on Nintendo systems. So tired of hearing devs minimizing their lack of effort. If it had local co op play it sounds like this would be the definitive version to own. Without it, it lacks a huge component that will truly affect sales. Some people think that eventually it will be patched. LOL. With the dismal sales this will generate I suspect they will come up with some lame excuse not to do it, along the lines of 'it doesn't make fiscal sense to waste resources on a game that isn't selling'. Arggghhhh!
@ferthepoet they have an exclusive partnership for I believe 3 games (this, Lost World, ???) and anytime Nintendo characters i.e. Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, etc are used I consider it akin to 1st party. I know there is a distinction but I think when those are used, it needs to be up to Nintendo 1st party standards. I imagine it will be.
they seriously need to make this as graphically impressive as possible. This is a 1st party game and needs to have a higher standard. It sounds like they are close. If they want my money I want a flawless experience. Hopefully the finished product will deliver
Hopefully for Wii U owners, when the reviews come up for this game, the Wii U version will get a higher score and maybe help with sales. But knowing IGN and others...it will get the same score despite being the definitive version with its unique gamepad capabilities and better graphics. But mark my words. It won't. Sites like IGN hate Nintendo.
I fear that this will be another game that will not sell well on the Wii U and won't help Nintendo's third party reputation. I'm just not convinced these types of games are wanted enough to gets sales necessary to keep studios happy. I'm glad it's getting it, I don't plan on buying it though. I do think Watchdogs will sells well but the Wii U version will be the worst performer of all the consoles.
wait. So this guy has nothing but poopies to say about the Wii U and he had never played it? And now, after seeing how good Nintendo is to indies he buys it and does a 180? Um...very douchey! He is (was?) exactly what is wrong with everyone's hatred towards the Wii U. These people make generalized false statements based on nothing but groupthink or what they heard about the system. They then broadcast their 'opinions' and we are in this mess we're in with the Wii U. You have EA saying it can't handle Frostbite 3...then weeks later saying that could change if the Wii U sells more consoles. It's maddening. I really hope Nintendo is able to find different partners than these yahoos and help turn smaller devs into giants via the Wii U. I applaud this guy's change of heart but seriously, he shouldn't have opened his trap initially before actually playing and trying to design for it.

@Ronoh so you admit that if you own a PS4 or Xbone you will need to own a Wii U...that is..if you are a fan of gaming in general?
