Before I owned a NES, I played the sit-down coin-op version of the original. Getting to play without a quarter was its own novelty, as were experiencing SMB2 & 3 as new releases. SMW did the same thing for me on SNES. I loved getting to play All-Stars for the upgraded graphics and The Lost Levels. But, my fondest memories are experiencing the games on their native consoles (except TLL, of course).
