ChocoDK:
"Also this weeks VC release sucks IMO as usual. I remember in 2007 when people said "I hope 2008 is a good year for the VC." Well here we are 6mths later half way through 2008 and the VC has been for the most part crap."

I didn't think 2007 was a bad year, but 2008 is the pits. The bad releases might have something to do WiiWare. Also, I think the reason we're getting all these Neo Geo games lately is because the SNK Arcade Classics collection is due out for the Wii at the end of the year.

"Maybe the VC will start supporting all of these systems they have added. This is the first Neo-Geo game in a long time, the TG-16 has been MIA here in the US. Finally, the poor Sega Master System is getting no attention."

Yeah, I keep wondering what Nintendo's master plan is. Maybe they have no master plan as far the Virtual Console is concerned. Maybe they have no idea what they're doing.

"Well, the word is out. Nintendo has full authority on Capcom VC releases because Capcom licenced them their classic titles. So Capcom really has nothing to do with it, it's Nintendo's decision entirely. Still, BC could be a future release, since up to now Nintendo hasn't allowed its appearance. I didn't find any word on whether this decision is final."

Very interesting. So, we've all been screaming at Nintendo and each other these past few days for nothing.

"Hate to break to you but Final Fantasy VII could have not been made on a cartridge, it took about million times the size of a maximum cartridge. And Square was right that the cd was the future of gaming, so Nintendo was wrong and paid the price."

Square wanted to play king maker to Sony. That's what the move was about. And isn't it funny that when Square decided to repair relations with Nintendo, it was so they could develop for a cartridge based system, the GameBoy Advance.

"Nintendo's starting to go down the slippery slope it did once upon a time with Square way back when."

Hate to break this to you, but it was Square who stabbed Nintendo in the back. They had a good relationship with Nintendo during the Super Nintendo years. They even had Square develop the Super Mario RPG. Then Square blindsided Nintendo and made Final Fantasy VII for the Playstation instead of the Nintendo 64. Square even made fun of the Nintendo 64 in their advertising campaign, saying it would have been impossible to put Final Fantasy VII on a cartridge.

"Perhaps if Capcom were making a new Bionic Commando for the Wii and not just the other systems, they would put the original on the VC."

Exactly. Frankly, Capcom and other 3rd parties need to step it up this year. The Wii is a proven success and I'm tired of 3rd parties treating it as an afterthought.

"Isn't it basically like Nintendo blocking SSBB because it has Solid Snake promoting Metal Gear Solid (a mostly PlayStation franchise)?"

Capcom allowed GameCube exclusives to come out for the PS2. Capcom made promises they couldn't keep. Nintendo is still angry at Capcom because they were relying on Resident Evil 4 to push GameCube sales.

Konami allowed Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes to come out for the GameCube. They never made any promises to Nintendo beyond that.

I'm actually going to defend Nintendo on this one. I think this has to do with the fact that the new Bionic Commando(the 3D one, not the 2D remake) is coming out on the 360 and PS3 instead of the Wii. Frankly, I think Capcom had a lot of nerve trying to get Bionic Commando on the Virtual Console. Capcom doesn't want to bring out any new Bionic Commando games on a Nintendo system, but they have no problem trying to make a quick buck off of the original. Give me a break.

Re: Will Sega CD Support Ever Come To The Virtual Console?

firebrand

I don't see it happening. Even if they could get the emulation down, would they have access to enough SEGA CD titles to make it worth the effort? I don't think so. SEGA invested to much money into those awful FMV games back in the day. Who would want to buy those games now?

Other titles like Lunar are probably so bogged down in licensing issues that we'll probably never see them. Working Designs published Lunar and they're out of business. Who owns the right to Lunar now and would they have the right to release the Working Designs' translation of Lunar?

If SEGA CD ever does grace the Virtual Console, I'd like to see Eternal Champions CD and Popful Mail.

Buy a bad game in the hopes that I'll get a good game as a result. Not gonna happen. Square could have released another obscure title like The Secret of Evermore. At least that game is good. Buying bad games only encourages companies to release more bad games. Don't waste your money.
