"Honestly, I think they are giving us good games so they could get us to support them during the console war @ E3 today."

I can't speak for Ninja Commando, but Donkey Kong 3 is a big "so what." Honestly, I thought Nintendo had released all of their early run NES titles. How many more of these do we have to deal with? I want quality NES games. Where's Blaster Master?

"Also, does any1 know where the E3 convention is being held and at what time the convention is starting?"

It starts tonight, but we won't hear from Nintendo until tomorrow afternoon.

"So it's confirmed. I came to this site to show some enthusiasm with the VC, and it's been most obvious that my opinions are unimportant. I know that SMRPG and Earthbound are popular, and I'm equally enthusiastic over the latter, but I was just suggesting that there's more than that."

I don't care about Super Mario RPG or Earthbound. I already own Super Mario RPG and I was one of those gamers back in the day who ignored Earthbound upon release. I would have bought the Earthbound games on the GameBoy Advance, but Nintendo of America didn't bother releasing them over here.

Nintendo doesn't pay attention to e-mails.

"Oh, and Virtual Console is not serious business. Everybody calm down."

I think it doesn't help matters that we haven't had a major Wii release in North America since May. I used to think one of the main reasons Nintendo came up with the Virtual Console to begin with was to keep fans happy while they were waiting for the next big Wii game.

"I bet there'd be no complaints if Nintendo decided to give us nothing but SNES games for a few months."

I'd complain. I already own a Super Nintendo with a full library. Right now, I'm only interested in NES, Genesis, and TurboGrafx CD games.

"The only thing that worries me a little is that, with all the people going from frustrated to complacent and burnt out, someone at Nintendo is going to think something like "well, almost nobody's downloading the one game we release every week anymore so maybe we should give up on the market." Like, minus feedback, some moron might conclude that people just don't care anymore and that it doesn't have something to do with the real reasons why they are losing interest."

I've thought the same thing, but if that happens, so be it. I'm not buying games that I don't want to play just to keep the service going,

Oh well. At least we still have Captain Rainbow to look forward to.

"A similar thing can be said about Microsoft - the XBox360 was rushed, and even though it's stated that the Red Ring of Death problem will be resolved, it doesn't alter the fact that there still aren't that many interesting games for those that want to play stuff other than first person shooters, not to mention that it suffers similar backwards compatability problems with the PS3."

Yeah, the red ring of death is a huge problem for the 360. Lack of backwards compatibility on PS3 isn't good, but I don't really take advantage of backwards compatibility on my Wii so it's not a deciding factor for me. Also, the PS3 actually has some decent games this year. Maybe I wouldn't be so down on the Wii if I knew what was coming out, but Nintendo is so tight lipped lately.

@Rapadash6

"After a day of thinking about it, it's pointless for me or anyone of us to complain anymore. We make it seem as if Nintendo OWES us these games but as a company they are perfectly well within thier rights to offer us whatever they feel appropriate."

I think the reason a lot of us on this site feel Nintendo owes us is because Nintendo has had a very loyal fanbase in North America all these years. Part of the reason Nintendo survived during the rough times was because of the loyalty of its fans.

I've noticed a change over at Nintendo this past year. They outsourced the publication of Nintendo Power and no longer publish their own Player's Guides. They give us nothing for registering games and have stripped their website down to the bare essentials. I don't get the same sense of community from them that I used to.

For a lot of you, the Wii is your first Nintendo console in a long time so you may be puzzled or annoyed when we complain. You're right in the fact that Nintendo doesn't owe us anything. However, loyalty goes both ways and if Nintendo doesn't owe us anything then we don't owe Nintendo anything. If Nintendo is going to be a jerk company like Sony or Microsoft, what's stopping any of us from going over to the other side.

It's funny. I finally own a number one console, but it sure doesn't feel that way. It seems that all the big names keep coming out for the XBOX 360 and the PS3. The third party support on the Wii is worse than it was on the GameCube. The Wii is popular now, but that could change at anytime. Nintendo will need its core audience if that change happens. Nintendo shouldn't make its fans angry. Sega learned that lesson the hard way.

"I don't know what America is like, but impatience and haste never gets rewarded out here - if you blatently show open agitation about a certain scenario, the merchant completely ignores you and seeks for a more "pleasant" customer."

In America, the exact opposite is true. If you don't stand up for yourself, you get stepped on. Salesmen are constantly trying to scam you. Up until recently, I always praised Nintendo for their customer service, but now...I don't know.

"How much more of those are there left, so we can know how long we have to wait until we get something else? Anyone familiar with Neo Geo?"

I believe there are more fighters for the Neo Geo than there are shooters for the TurboGrafx. Nintendo must really want us to download SPOGS. I hate WiiWare.

"It looks like their releases are totally random though, there are a load of games that were announced over a year ago, Duck hunt, Pilot Wings, they aren't out yet games like cybernoid came out a week after it was announced."

Yeah, I don't get it. They made such a big deal about Earthworm Jim coming to the Virtual Console, but that was announced back in April. What happened?

"I dunno why but I can't get away with game compilations. I had a couple of Sega collections on the Playstation and hated loads of the games, Golden Axe II, Kid Chameleon and Vectorman were all on them. Yet I have them all on the VC and they are Emulated better."

You make a good point. I didn't care for that PS2 Genesis collection either. I even downloaded Shinobi III off the VC because the PS2 controller couldn't handle that game.

firebrand

@sadpanda212

"The sarcasm at the end from me was probably not called for but I hope you see my point, just becase you don't like it doesn't make it bad"

I don't think it's the releases that are bothering me so much as this one game a week policy. If Nintendo had released Metal Slug, Burning Fight, and Fatal Fury 2 on the same Monday, it wouldn't have bugged me. When Nintendo had a routine of releasing three games a week, you knew that even if the game you wanted wasn't released that week that there was a good chance it would be released in the near future. Now, with single game releases, you may never see your most wanted games. People get frustrated and take out their anger on Fatal Fury 2 or Alex Kidd. Other people get angry at the complainers because Alex Kidd and Fatal Fury 2 are on their most wanted game lists. And so it goes on and on.

Re: US VC Release - 30th June - Fatal Fury 2

firebrand

@sadpanda212

"Considering the 2 this week are both in their own right pretty damned good I would expect it would take the entire nintendo back catalog to constitute a good week."

Two games weren't released this week. We only got one game. We've had a lot of single game releases recently and most of them have been either Neo Geo games or obscure NES imports. The Virtual Console's main purpose is to sell nostolgia and it hasn't been doing a very good job of it lately.

And believe it or not, I like SNK. The only problem is, I own a PS2. For eleven dollars and change, I was able to buy Fatal Fury Battle Archives vol. 1. This collection contains Fatal Fury, Fatal Fury 2, Fatal Fury Special, and Fatal Fury 3. That's a better value than paying 900 points for a single game. This is why I don't get excited over SNK releases. Very soon, SNK will be releasing similar collections on the Wii. I'm sorry, but they're a better value.

Sorry, but this is the only website still dedicated to the Wii Virtual Console. There are other sites, but most of them stopped updating months ago. That's why people come here.

We haven't gotten Crack Down over here in North America yet.

"there's been a general belief that if the game is not a first/second party Nintendo game, then it ultimately gets disregarded by the American gaming audience."

I can see how you've gotten this impression. Yes, Nintendo and Square games are great, but so are a lot of other games. I never pick on a good game when it gets released even if it's one I'm not interested in purchasing. Why? Because I know someone else out there wants that game.

"And now it seems as if that kind of thing is getting into NoA's heads and they seem to want to offer the other titles in lower quantities and up the Wiiware ante for some reason."

We can't know what's in NOA's head. They don't talk to the community anymore. They've had a change in attitude ever since Reggie took over. They have yet to sell me on WiiWare. The only game I'm interested in from that service is MegaMan 9.

"Can't anyone be greatful enough that they've got stuff to play on at least?"

I'd be grateful if they'd release something I actually wanted to play. I haven't downloaded anything since Double Dragon.

"Anything that's got a Nintendo branding by its name. Hence, why we took Alex Kidd in a lot better than you did."

That doesn't describe me at all. I already own those Nintendo branded games. I don't want them. I want TurboGrafx CD games, Genesis games, and 3rd party NES games. And I never bashed Alex Kidd or Fatal Fury 2.

What do we want? We want Nintendo to release more games, not less! Why is that so hard to understand?

Re: US VC Release - 30th June - Fatal Fury 2

firebrand

Everyone stop picking on the Neo Geo. It's a classic console and deserves some respect. The problem isn't the games being released, it's the lack of games being released. We should be up to four releases a week with all the consoles they've added this past year.

Yes and yes. I believe Matt has allowed his personal life to cross into his professional life.

I e-mailed Nintendo of America way back and they sent me the same canned response everyone else got. After that, they ignored my e-mails.

Rexy,

"Either Nintendo is running out of stuff to freely distribute over the VC, or there's a questionable PR team making these kinds of decisions."

Questionable PR team. There's not a doubt in my mind. At least Kaplan would talk to the press once in awhile. I don't even know who her replacement is.

Rapadash6, remember when you wrote this:

In all fairness, I thought June would turn out to be a better month too.

Re: US VC Release - 16th June - Samurai Shodown

firebrand

Samurai Shodown is a great game, but it is going to be available in both the Samurai Shodown Anthology and Snk Arcade Classics vol. 1. And I'm really getting tired of these one game weeks. What kills is that a lot of Genesis titles have been announced that I really want to download. Where's Earthworm Jim, Phelios, Shining Force 2, Splatterhouse 2, and Strider?

Re: SNK Virtual Console Releases In Jeopardy?

Why are you criticizing SNK, Damien? Doesn't Nintendo decide what games get released and when as far as the Virtual Console is concerned? Maybe SNK is just tired of waiting for Nintendo to get their act together. I wonder if Sega and Hudson will release similar collections.

"every nintendo system has had one. Where have you been? Mario Galaxy hello? For the wii? And no, not every Nintendo system has mario PLATFORMER in it. Virtual Boy and Color TV Game did not have a mario platformer/ or did not have a true mario Platformer on it."

You're not understanding me. Super Mario Galaxy is available on the Wii, not WiiWare. WiiWare needs a killer app to draw people in who would otherwise not be interested. I'm not saying it has to be a Mario game, but it has to be something worthwhile.

And yes, the Virtual Boy didn't have a Mario platformer. In fact, it didn't have much of anything which is partly why no one bought it.

"Do you know how much a Wii Ware game cost to be made? About $150 000 or even more. In order to make a profit, they have to come with a price that will be fit for the game."

If small game studios can deal with costs of putting games on WiiWare, why can't one of the richest game companies on the planet deal with it?

"As for taking advantage of Wiiware, they already have DR.Mario game on there. Is that a mario game and isn't it successful? I think so."

I'm talking about a Mario platformer. Every Nintendo system has had one. It's expected. They could always remake Super Mario Land.

"Wii-ware titles are over-priced compared to VC games, but could Nintendo give us some thing truly special with Wii-ware that makes us sit up and take notice?. The big N could take advantage of their successful games like Mario and Zelda..."

I have no idea why Nintendo hasn't done this. An original Mario title would go a long way towards promoting WiiWare.
