Re: Talking Point: Where Does The Switch OLED Announcement Leave The Rumoured Switch Pro?

evo_9

This is the basically the 'pro model'.

Nintendo would never create hardware that splinters their well oiled money making hardware (Switch or any future consoles for that matter). Doing so would be counterproductive to their overall mission of generating huge amounts of cash, and producing 'good enough' hardware to keep their fans happy. They've never been, or rather, not for a very long time, about pushing the most pixels, highest rez, best graphics, etc etc. That's not their thing.

Nintendo is after one thing with this new hardware - attracting people that do not already own a Switch to buy one. That's it.

Sorry they really don't care about power users, or any of that stuff, that's why the always choose 'sensible' hardware and price their stuff in a way that everyone can buy it. I also think this is why they create the absolute best, most fun gaming expereinces - they're not focused on eye-candy, they're focus is on game design.

Beyond all that they are happy if some current Switch owners upgrade this new Switch, that's just bonus cash for them.

That all said, I'd buy one in a heardbeat if I didn't already owe one, but maybe my wife needs my old one lol.

Not Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance on switch... no idea why... was suppose to come on Friday... did on PS4... so yeah that's what I'll be playing (Goddamn PS4 version). Stupid.

Oh, thx for the update (https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2021/05/iconic_action-rpg_baldurs_gate_dark_alliance_isnt_out_today_on_nintendo_switch_after_all) ... at least I know I'm not crazy (not finding it). I guess I'll end up owning it on both systems... such is the way of nostalgia I suppose.

It's pretty good. Probably not quite as good as that PS3/Xbox360 version we all know and love. At 29 bucks it's a worthwhile grab though either way. Controls feel a little wonky to me but maybe that's how it's always been. Also, some of its whimsy/charm seems more forced or intentional in this version.

I own this game on PC (sucks balls), Xbox360, PS3, and PS4. I will most definitely be buying this when I get home tonight along with a stop at GameStop for the Amiibo... while this might be the second weakest version (at least right now - they'll improve it with updates) the ability to play this on long flights to China with my girl is the reason this might be the best version, period. I can live with glitchy sound and running at 30fps... the Kotaku review suggests the lack of faster/smoother frame rate makes the game feel more like the original PS3 version... so yeah it's a feature not a bug!

Plus, it'll be nice to get invaded again and/or summon people... I played through it on PS3 recently on my Game+++++ character and it was a lonely of a journey with no help or even a random, fun invader or two along the way.
