Wasn't Metroid inspired by the first Alien-movie? Both Metroid Fusion and Super Metroid were adventure-horror games. I've always seen Metroid as dark bleak games, not flashy-action-melodramas.
No need for the "survival" part though. Horror-adventure alone is just fine.
It's the developers of SKB that are objectifying women, therefore gamers of SKB are direct participants of this sexual objectification by supporting this kind of media.
The problem isn't the objectification of individuals (like the characters), it's the objectification of all women.
It's not just about making people objectify women (or men) in real life. People who don't objectify women in real life promote the idea that objectification is okay when they are buying and enjoying games and movies that do just that. In many cases, people who don't objectify denies that there are problems associated with it.
And because of this: People and companies who do objectify women are given a "OK" to objectify women as they please when no-one reacts, because objectification isn't even recognized as a problem.
@Vhyper1985 Did you even read my post? I never wrote that racial stereotyping and sexual objectification don't happen in real life.
When someone kills a whale in real life, a whale gets killed. When someone kills a whale in a game, a whale ISN'T killed. When someone sexually objectify women in real life, women is objectified. When someone sexually objectify women in a game, women is objectified.
And hey, I am out in the real world and making a change, one action doesn't cancel out another.
@Vhyper1985 It's not about nudity or sexy men and women. It's about sexual objectification. Your whale killing-example doesn't work here. Instead: compare it to racial stereotyping. Whale killings happens in real life, not in games. Sexual objectification can happen in games.
@Galenmereth First of all, thank you. I'm happy that you took the time to explain your points, but I still don't agree with them.
Pornography doesn't just fill out a void, where someone can safely practice sexual fantasies. It does actually create a need for more and more pornography. But I'm not here to make an argument against porn, I'm against sexual objectification.
Sexual objectification takes advantage of our basic instincts and distorts our view on reality. It's so rooted into our subconscious that we take it as normal. Safe environments like video games and movies is in some ways more harmful than real life. Movies have the power to sexually objectify women (and men) in masses compared to sexist co-workers.
Sexual objectification leads to dehumanization. It leads to bad self-consciousness, bad self-image and bad mental health.
So yes, even to a mature mind, sexual objectification in something outside of pornography can be both harmful to men and women. Both as users and as objectified fantasies.
In short: no, sexual objectification doesn't bridge the gap between women and men, it segregates women and men into caricatures that affect them in everyday life. Instead of being free TO sexually objectify, we should be free FROM sexual objectification and work towards sexual subjectification of both sexes.
@Galenmereth Yes, I read your post about difference in psychology and biology. But why does it matter? It's a very bad excuse to sexually objectify people at all.
And you're showing some great cognitive dissonance towards gamings effects on your own mind. It's very obvious that you, like a lot of gamers have learned to be indifferent towards things like violence, online bigotry and sexual objectification. After playing for so long you learn that "it must be natural" for women to be showed this way in the media and that it's something to laugh at. Add peer pressure-arguments: "since everyone does it, why is it wrong?".
And yes, I'd rather live in a society where sexual objectification isn't the norm.
@Galenmereth
"Art" shapes our culture, and our culture shapes society. Why don't we have the volume of racial stereotypes in art like in the 30s? Because it reinforces stereotypes that uphold the current norms that (in this specific example) keeps women from getting equal power to men.
So informing people of objectification and promoting boycotts of harmful content is a perfect way to waste ones energy.
Also, why do anything if you can spend all your time helping women in middle east instead of playing video games? People choose to spend their time and energy as they please.
@SpaceBooger Yeah, I also want to know! Instead of remaking the games in HD, Nintendo should instead release a new Wii Emulator that plays games in HD. It shouldn't be impossible!
America is screwed over? Rune Factory 4 is still not coming to Europe. That's way better than a remake of a game 3DS owners got through the Ambassador program.
This video is so funny (13.20), why does he call it a 'loving' lie? So what if she's not a Megaman player?
I'm not much of a Final Fantasy player, however I love Final Fantasy VI. Does that make me a 'loving' liar? Should that be a reason for me to not design a Final Fantasy game? Please, let's not repeat that language here — TBD
@Cuddles Have you've seen any official robots she have designed for the game? I don't mean this fanart picture that was drawn in her own style. I'm watching the video right now! So far, I don't see anything wrong with it. (6.07)
@Cuddles People have the right to be annoyed. I'm just against this amount of hate against a person that doesn't even have as much influence as they think. They were obviously not going to change the art style or the main character from the start or put any feminist propaganda into the game.
@Yorumi Both feminists and others dislike bad writing, I'm sure that there are a lot of people, besides feminists that want to see more varied female characters with different strengths and faults, in a more active role. I believe that there are both bad and good feminist writers. I haven't seen any misandric statements from this woman, so I don't think that she would influence Inafune to potray men unfairly.
@Yorumi In a general sense, yes! What is the worst she could do to Mighty No 9, realistically speaking? Making Call a main playable character from the start isn't going to destroy the game. Also, Inafune is the director, he isn't going to take in elements into the game that will go against his vision.

Great news, I'll probably download Pikmin 3, heard it's great.

Nintendo should just make a proper HD Wii emulator for Wii U, that would work. I'd buy that.

Gargoyles Quest II is a NES original, that had a GB-port in Japan.
Demons Crest is a good game.

Make Call playable, from the start? I don't find anything extremist with that.
