@Bass: while I do understand that some games don't need a translation (I have Dracula X and Pulseman and no translation is really needed), I feel that with any sizeable chunk of text, I will find myself wondering if I missed something that would enhance the experience. As much as I truly want to play Seiken Densetsu 3 legally, would people put up with a raw Japanese version on English VCs?
@Willy: I would take a VC game that I may have played previously and know what I'm getting into than a lame shovelware WiiWare title that I may find lacking. Many WiiWare games are, sadly, rather poor.
If there is an issue I have with import titles, it is the lack of translations. Some games don't need a real localization, such as shooters and platformers. However, an RPG or text-heavy game like DoReMi, it's lazy and unacceptable.
Sounds like Europe gets the shaft with resolutions. Sorry, Prosody and anyone else in the UK.
@45: Unfortunately, none of the major companies do that. Your space bucks are gone for good once you spend them...and hey, how often do you get refunds in the real world anyway?
Another point I'd like to bring up. I have two Neo Geo games on my Wii (Samurai Shodown 2 and Magician Lord) and at 900 points each, they're a STEAL compared to the original prices. I never had a Neo Geo, or any games, but to those who don't know, the system and its games ran in the HUNDREDS of dollars. You think TRU marking SNES games up to 70 or 80 bucks in the day was ridiculous, Neo Geo games could easily run $300-$500 because you were paying for what is essentially the ROM cart used inside the arcade machines, but modified for a home console.
And do you guys know how much they ask for in regards to some of the SNES and Genesis games on the service? Sometimes just the cart, in average condition, with no box or manual can run $60 to $100 for rare games.
@24: He's one of the greats. I know that movie catches a lot of flack, but on a certain level, it's enjoyable from a cheeseball POV. Certainly not a film classic, but OK if it's late and there's nothing else on TV and it happens to be on.
I find most VC prices quite reasonable - consider the rarity in aftermarkets of holy grails like Rondo of Blood and several other rare games. I just want MORE VC titles - bring on StarFox SNES, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy III/VI, EarthBound, Castlevania Bloodlines, and more more more!
To all the people bummed about the Water one: if you don't pick him, you'll probably end up getting a Gyarados for the umpteenth time anyway, so quitcher griping.
the irony of the Water-type is that in HG, Totodile was my starter and totally rocks...Squirtle, Piplup, and even Mudkip were pretty cool, but this Water starter has no redeeming qualities. And the Grass type is kinda cute although I mostly dislike Grass as an element type (Torterra rocks though).
I sincerely hope the WiiWare remake has something to set it apart. I have the VC one, so if it consists of just a graphical facelift, I will pass. Is 1000 points worth it if it is the virtual same as the original?
@Kirk and anyone who supports piracy: dude, WTF? That's like saying writers and publishers don't deserve our money for books or that no one in entertainment has a right to being paid for hard work. I am staunchly against Wii and DS piracy and despise people who think they are entitled to stuff for free.
Let me share an anecdote: when Metroid Fusion was about to hit, I downloaded the leaked ROM a few weeks early and played a few minutes...before deleting it and waiting for the GBA cart. It made me sick, and to this day I would never steal a game released for a console still turning profits. I feel saddened at how many people I see posting on articles and sites about how awesome they think piracy is and I feel violated. So I hope they employ stricter measures.
@Oregano: I understand the frustration. PSP really doesn't strike me as having much shelf life left in it, yet the DS and Wii are much more viable platforms. Plus, there are so many IPs begging for a new entry on Nintendo's hardware.
@Damo, 11: On my Droid, when I download a ROM and try to open it in SNESoid, it tells me it's an invalid file or something. I dunno what I'm doing wrong.
I don't know if I should care enough. On my Droid, I cannot get SNES ROMs to work at all. Of course that's using the free version, but...would it really be worth it for emulators that might not work for everyone?
Nintendo's vagueness on its first- and second-party games is really annoying...however, very soon (i.e. this summer) we'll be graced with SMG2, Metroid Other M, Sonic 4 on WiiWare...so at the very least the Nintendo hardcore have those to make them happy. Plus we also have the 5th gen Pokemon games and other stuff to look forward to
Whether this turns out to be gold or a stinker, I can't help but associate the name with that damnable Internet subculture associated with the first word in the title.
It's a true shame that for most people, the only way to enjoy this game is through less-than-legal means. Square should see the primo opportunity there is to releasing this amazing game either on DS or VC. If they can be bothered to retranslate Chrono Trigger and remake FFIV for DS, they can certainly do us this favor. Square has to know there's a large fanbase wanting this game in the US. We don't ALWAYS want just more Final Fantasy, people
Of course, given the weird trend to not bother translating text-heavy games on VC (see: that Milon game for SNES), the VC thing might not happen...

Is it really rampant in New York?

Re: Nintendo Swashes Even More Pirates' Buckles
On a more serious note, I hate pirates. I especially abhor DS piracy, there is no excuse.

Re: Nintendo Swashes Even More Pirates' Buckles
Well, at least they weren't Space Pirates. We would have to call Samus!
Re: MegaMan Zero Collection (DS) Trailer
A winner is you of happy wishing luck token. Even though I already have all 4 MMZ games on GBA, I'll still get this for the sake of convenience.
Re: Pokémon Black and White Starters are Disappointingly Ugly
Not all Water starters have a lame first form. Totodile and it's evolutions all kick ass.
Re: Pokémon Black and White Starters are Disappointingly Ugly
For the record, the pig looks like he's wearing a bandana, so...pirate fire pig? Ninja fir pig? Ninja-pirate fire pig?
Re: Complete Your Living Room: My Fireplace Stoking up WiiWare
I hope someone can make a walkthrough for this, because my Wii points say the final boss will be TOUGH.

Re: Pokémon Black and White Starters are Disappointingly Ugly
Hey, just remember...with starters, it's all about the final evolution and I will choose mine based on that.
Mean time though, what will we call the pig? Pigroast? Swineflare? Or Hamferno?
Re: Monster Tale Picked Up and Swung Around by Majesco
Are those enemy crabs? I hope we are able to find their weak points using real-time weapon changing, and strike for massive damage!
Re: Wii Controller App For Android Goes Live
I dunno, is it even possible to run standard emulators like ZSNES and RockNES on Android OS phones?
Re: Don't Worry, You May Get More 2D Metroids
But Samus is not flat...oh, wait...they meant 2D...heh.
I don't mind the Prime games, MP3 is still one of the best. I would love more games in the spirit of Super Metroid as well, however

Re: Soon You May Be Able to Enter the MegaMan Universe
Somehow, I picture this as being kinda like the Battle Network games. Since those are based around the concept of an MMO...but who knows.
