@mesome713 So if these characters are "has beens" to you that "new gamers wouldn't care about" (even though someone pointed out that almost all of them have had stellar games as of late), then I would love to hear your take on:
Olimar and his lack of new games (Pikmin 3 was in 2013)
Metroid and its lack of new games (last real new one being 2010). Trust me, "new gamers" dont know anything about Metroid.
K. Rool who hasn't been in mainline DK game for a while
Rosalina whose only real impactful game was Galaxy in 2007
Last Punch Out was in 2009
Duck Hunt, G&W, Pac-Man, R.O.B., Ice Climbers who wont ever see a new game
And this list can go on. Your logic about smash having "has beens" that new gamers wont recognize is fundamentally flawed, because newer people might look into franchises they never heard about, and the majority of people that will pick up smash are "older gamers" who will appreciate smash for the celebration of gaming that it is.
Now, if you dont like the DLC characters that's perfectly fine. We all like and dislike various things. But your reason just doesnt make sense to me
Dang, I never realized there were so many people that just dont like the idea of speedrunning and consider it cheating for one reason or another. Speedruns take soooooo much time and skill and require such an intimate knowledge and love of the game, that I personally am always impressed to see any game get destroyed to shreds.
However, I am unsure if this should qualify as an any% run or something else. Its really neat to see the time being taken even lower, but maybe it needs to be part of a different category? Idk, we'll have to see what the community decides overall
It's always interesting to read features like this, because I often forget to just stop and think about what really goes in to making a game. I like reading about the nuances that the developers have to think about, like text scalability and music cues, that I simply forget to think about. Great read, thanks for the interview guys!
@Bobobiwan If you look up in the comments a little, Damo brings up that the logo was made by Alex himself. I personally feel the little subtitle gives that away, it's way to Alex-ey to be real, but we have confirmation from Damo himself
1. Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. Recently rejuvenated my love for the star wars franchise and am having a blast with this game. 2. Wrapping up some feats on Specter of Torment. After King of Cards released, I decided to 100% the franchise but backwards, and I think I can finish my remaining Specter feats over this weekend.
Awh yea, 3 cheers for my boy Hollow Knight landing in the top 15! Interesting to see Luigis Mansion on this list as well. I knew it was doing well, but I didn't realize just how well. And I'm happy for it as well! It always felt like a rather niche series, but it seems it's finally getting the attention it deserves
@patbacknitro18 I just want to butt into your conversation and point out a couple things. Art direction and preference is all subjective, meaning it can be different from person to person. Pod was very respectful and stated multiple times that "in his opinion" or that "he feels" something doesn't work. You can't refute his opinion by saying that your opinion on the art is fact, because it ain't. I'm glad you enjoy the art direction and I personally do too, but opinions are opinions, not fact.
Like I really dont like Ridley's design either for example, as much as I wanted him in. I also dont like Shulk or Zss in game model. But again, that's just how I feel.
@SKTTR Edit: "The people who don't love UNDERTALE simply haven't played it long enough"
Or perhaps (and maybe I'm just crazy) people have different tastes and preferences and can like and dislike different things. And I'm saying this as someone who likes Undertale.
@brandonbwii @RainbowGazelle Of course I don't know exactly what he may be referring to, but I'm also not afraid to start drama. However, this topic shouldn't cause controversy/drama, so...
Brandon, you're talking about the addition of the "they" pronoun aren't you?
Edit: This is just a guess, but I couldn't think of anything else. Let me know if I'm wrong though
@MadAdam81 Woooooah there buddy. That's such an unrealistic expectation. Come back down to earth, and hope that they do a similar thing with those games, instead of having them with Samus Returns
@rjejr I don't know how you managed to misspell "Nintendo" so many times, but I respect it. I do agree the XCX did open world pretty well, and i did spend more of my time exploring and fighting than actually caring about sidequests and NPC's, but at the end of the day, it was like many other open world games. There wasn't too much innovation in terms of the genre in XCX.
@sillygostly That's something I'll have to think about now, actually. So there is a distinction between DLC that was cut from the game, and DLC made after the game's release to add to the game, hence the lesser of two evils motif that we got going, but both are still an evil nonetheless. Now, if a game was re-released at a later date with all that DLC included (ala Mario Kart 8 Deluxe), but at a higher price, I wonder if more people would buy those instead of the normal game and separately buying DLC.
Say the gaming industry started doing that more frequently to more titles, especially AAA ones. That could change how we perceive DLC, because those who want it now could buy it separately, but others could just patiently wait for the deluxe re-release. I, personally, can get behind that idea.
@sillygostly Don't forget that the expansion pass is not just for these tidbits, but also for story and dungeon added in the winter. But yes, just for the things mentioned in this article, 20 bucks wouldn't be worth it. It's all up to the second part coming in the holidays to show whether or not it's worth it.
And you make a valid point with evils and stuff with DLC, but at the same time, I can't help feeling that it's being blown a little out of proportion. This is how the gaming industry works right now. People might not want to pay $80 for a game, so companies still sell it at 60, but conjure ways to make more money. Sure, some people (like Shovel Knight) do DLC astonishingly well and reasonably, but for the most part, DLC isn't like that. Whether you buy it or not is your choice, but calling all the companies that do that an evil is a little much. Business is business, and money is money.
@Yosher Let me reword myself a little. What I meant to say was I don't understand why people complain about it that much, when there's so much else left. Asking to not post spoilery images and things is absolutely fine and again, I respect the idea of those that count everything a spoiler. But if you have 99.98 percent of the game to still discover on your own, why get so riled up by the other .02, and possibly let it cloud the rest of your experience? That's more what I meant.
To illustrate, when I went to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I was spoiled that a certain someone dies. That didn't stop my enjoyment of the rest of the movie, even though it made that moment much less emotional. My bad if I came off a little rude though, Yosher. I can tell you feel strongly about this.
This might be pretty hype. As much as I loved the first film, I wished they spent more time in other worlds, as they spent quite a lot in the racing world but I do understand that to keep a coherent story you don't really want to jump around too many locations. At least, that's how I remember it was...actually, gonna go rewatch this movie now.
Opening Ralph to the internet sounds interesting, and I'm excited to see what they do with this idea. Also interested to know how they make Mario important. As much as I dislike Sonic himself, I can see him being a companion much more than Mario, considering we don't really know how Mario talks and acts in the long run...
As someone who has never cared about spoilers, I can't relate to people who cry "spoiler!" at every little thing in the game. Now, I respect their opinion of course, but because of my lack of personal feeling on the matter, I find all such comments to be quite hilarious. But seriously, this spoils like 0.02% of the game, why get so riled up about it? I just don't understand...
My favorite moments in general are just climbing up mountains and getting to the highest point in any new area that I find. There's just something about climbing so freely that I find so satisfying. It's why I upgraded all my stamina so quickly
@Mogster I mean, Reggie has hinted that they are working on Metroid. Though last time he said that, we got federation force. Yea, nevermind, I'd rather wait and see what happens instead of getting hopes high.

Didn't get to catch much, but that Super Metroid Impossible run was so nuts! Gonna have to go back and watch a few of the runs when I have time.
