Re: Feature: The Evolution of Nintendo's Controllers

TimboBaggins

The SNES controller is a classic that has yet to be improved upon. However, the GC and even the Wii controllers are very comfortable to hold (but the button layout isn't always as friendly). THe original NES, while revolutionary for its time, is too limited an pointy (ouch!). THe worst is that damned three pronged N64 controller.....what the hell were they smoking? The N64 controller confused my adolescent brain so much when I tried to use it at Toys R Us that I never bought an N64 and instead went straight back to my SNES until the Dreamcast came along.

Re: Redesigned Wii U Tablet Controller Is Revealed

TimboBaggins

I personally do not care about the analog sticks unless they are clickable. If they aren't clickable, whats the damn point? I would rather have the slider pads if that is the case. I like that the sticks are no longer directly above the other buttons, but they could have pushed them even further. Great idea to move the +/- buttons to the right side, this gives them the ability to be used as additional buttons for future games, kinda like how they were used for Metroid Triology. They would be impossible to reach while using the joysticks if they stayed in the center. Also, instead of circular holes I hope they go with the octagonal hole shape for the joystick similar to the Wii nunchuck because it is very hard to hold a joystick straight for a long period of time without a notch to push it into

Re: Talking Point: Should Zelda Go Episodic?

TimboBaggins

HORRIBLE IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!! When Skyward Sword people were complaining it wasn't long enough compared to huge games like Skyrim, Mass Effect, and Fallout. Turning it into episodes would overexpose the franchise. First nintendolife says Mario is being overused and now you want to do the same thing to Zelda? Who's side are you on?

Re: Dragon Quest X Wii Lands in Japan on 2nd August

TimboBaggins

WIsh there was no monthly fee. I feel like Square is using an Enix IP to test out a new gaming model before tampering with their precious FF series. Dragon Quest is equally legendary, screw them for tampering with the traditional formula. MMO must die.

Re: Talking Point: What New Super Mario Bros. 2 Means for 3DS and Nintendo

TimboBaggins

You can't compare Mario Kart 7, Mario vs Sonic, and Mario Tennis to the main series of platforming games. its unfair. Surely this has happened in Nintendo's past before. Every system nintendo releases has at least 1 platforming mario, and in recent times 1 3d mario and 1 2d mario. NSMBW and NSMBDS are NOT the same game. The Wii game is not the "wii version" of the DS game. They are NOT the same. Different powerups, different levels, different resolution, similar art style. This is crazy. The original NES had 3 main series Mario platforming games, now you think nintendo is crazy for have 2 galaxy games? Or one NSMB per system? This is being blown radically out of proportion. Nintendo is making the right decision, stfu.

Re: Nintendo Reveals New Super Mario Bros. 2 for 3DS

TimboBaggins

Am I the only one who didn't really like SM64 and SMS? SM64 was an important game for its time, but I can't say I really enjoyed it the way I enjoyed SMW. To me SMG is a direct continuation of the original series, and it wasn't until then I could enjoy Mario in 3d. The return to 2D sidescrollers has resulted in a Nintendo Renaissance. Not to mention - there is only one 2D mario for wii and one for DS. The 3DS and Wii U should have at least one 2D mario game as well.

Re: Nintendo Reveals New Super Mario Bros. 2 for 3DS

TimboBaggins

Okay.....Honestly from a gaming and marketing standpoint, I think they should have released DLC for Super Mario 3D Land instead. I think it is very true that 3D Land is still on strong legs and its prowess on the charts could be extended further by giving players a download pack with bonus levels. AND I do think it is a little bit lame for them to go the Tanooki route with this game since they already did the with 3D Land. That said, 2D Mario has always been my favorite and there isn't one for the 3DS yet. SM3DL and NSMB2 are entries in two separate series of games, and I think they should be viewed that way. I hope Nintendo has a record breaking Christmas this year to shut everyone up.

Re: Nintendo Reveals New Super Mario Bros. 2 for 3DS

TimboBaggins

You know, I don't think half of these negative comments would be here if nintendolife hadn't posted a recent article questioning whether the Mario franchise was getting overexposed. Now everyone hates mario. WTF? First of , I don't think NSMBW was Nintendo playing it safe. We are in the age of 3D, and nintendo took a gamble by returning to 2D gaming. Everyone remember how awesome the 2D Castlevania Symphony of the Night was? It got awesome reviews, but hardly anyone bought it and Konami continues to try to make Castlevania 3D. People could have viewed 2D mario as a step back for nintendo, or that the developers were just not grasping 3D games. Instead, NSMBW was a HUGE success and outsold Super Mario Galaxy! So NO, 2D is not playing it safe, nintendo just has just split their main platform series into two equally powerful franchises - the 2D series and the 3D series. Brilliant -I'll buy every single one (But please don't bring back Mario Sunshine, anything but that).

Re: Nintendo Reveals New Super Mario Bros. 2 for 3DS

TimboBaggins

This is AWESOME news. Look, I never buy any other mario games except the main series (although I've heard the sports/party/puzzle games are fun). Also, Luigi's mansion doesn't count as a mario game - doesn't luigi deserve his own series? Damn! If you are feeling mario overkill, its because you playing every game that has "mario" in the title, and that is almost every nintendo game all with varying degrees of quality. I have yet to play a platform based mario game that I didn't enjoy. You naysayers are crazy, this game will give the 3DS a shot in the arm this christmas.

Re: Rumour: Wii U Components Cost $180, Will Retail at $300

TimboBaggins

I've felt from the first mention of the Wii U that the price range would have to be $300-350. Anything higher would be crazy considering Nintendo's fan base. People bought the wii for three reasons - innovation, familiar franchise characters, and the biggest, BECAUSE IT WAS DRASTICALLY cheaper than EVERYTHING else ( $400 xbox? $600 PS3? Those guys should be happy they are still afloat, no system of that price has ever survived until now). To me, the Wii needs to be in the sweet spot of $300. Maybe even beat that at $279 just to make it more convincing. And pack in a new wii sports/games title. It would FLY off the shelves. I will be there day 1 if the price is right.

Re: Review: Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble (3DS eShop / Game Gear)

TimboBaggins

This game deserves far more than a 6/10. Its not fair to compare it with games that are not on the same platform. Thats like comparing Super Mario Land 2 to Super Mario World on the SNES. If I did that, Super Mario Land 2 would easily be a 6/10 due to black and white graphics, empty levels, reduced difficulty, and relatively short play time. But for a gameboy game, its one of the best. For a game gear game, all the main series Sonic entries are the best. This deserves an 8, 7 at the very least.

Re: Feature: Obscure Series That Should Return on Wii U

TimboBaggins

Legend of the Mystical Ninja on SNES is an excellent game. I want a sequel exactly like that - top down perspective, old school 2d sprites. I never was a fan of the N64 games. As far as ogre battle goes, it was so revered on snes because it was very rare - some cartridges used to go for like $50, maybe even higher now. But, it was never really that great of a game in the first place, just a collector's item. Ice Climbers would make a perfect download release, maybe played directly on the tablet. Viewtiful Joe would be awesome, and I'm open to Star Tropics, it sounds cool but I never played it.

Re: Super Mario 3D Land Director Wanted Cape Mario

TimboBaggins

I thought giving the enemies a tanooki tail was really unexpected and changed gameplay in interesting ways (goombas can jump, bowser with a tail, etc.)Also, the cape has MUCH different mechanics than the tail. The cape allowed a player to fly long distances without losing height, sometimes over the entire level. You could also take off to very high platforms from the ground with a running start. With the tanooki tail you could only slow your fall and attack enemies. I personally think to make a cape in 3 dimensions that is faithful to SMW would be very cool but very challenging to implement.

Re: Mario Party 2 Joins the Club Nintendo Rewards Gang

TimboBaggins

I unfortunately already have a pretty sweet game case (which is incidentally smaller than the one show here, holds 22 games and 2 sd cards). Also, whats the logic of giving us Mario Party 2 when Mario Party 9 is about to come out in March? Now I wish I had picked up Xevious and Kirby's Dream land. We've been getting less games since the first month, I consider last month to be only 3 games because I don't really need 2 copies of Dr. Mario....4 games, 3 games, 2 games. In march, maybe none? I really was hoping for 3D classic excitebike or Paper Mario 64...those would be sweet,

Re: Feature: The Wonder of Ugly Add-Ons

TimboBaggins

I had a screen magnifyer for the game boy that also had lights so you can play in the dark. It was powered on 2 AA's and folded into a small rectangle that fit perfect in my gameboy case. It was perfect for what I needed, totally portable, and clipped on snugly using the large screw holes on the back of the game boy. Some periphials make up for the shortcomings of a system. The GB booster however is ugly and completely unnecessary.

Re: Team Ninja Reveals Wii U Evolution

TimboBaggins

Other M 2 could be cool - think about instead of having the controller turn to have a first person view, you just raise the second screen to act as a gun sight. It could be epic. Just take out those dumb "where is it?" portions and make Samus a again. Other M was really not that bad except for those two flaws.

Re: Miyamoto Focused on New Franchises

TimboBaggins

Pikmin is awesome. But we need something that isn't a puzzle game. Basically, something . But I don't know if that is what is going to happen. Miyamoto is good at creating endearing cartoon style characters, but could he come up with something darker and more adult that has the same addictive play qualities of his other games? Probably not - more anthropomorphized animals, plummers, and elves...but how could I complain with that?

Re: Nintendo Wants to Keep Old Titles Fresh with DLC

TimboBaggins

Bonus racers and tracks in Mario Kart, More levels in Mario 3D land, bonus missions in starfox 64 3ds, additional side missions or dungeons in Ocarina of Time, more puzzles for pushmo, extended story mode for Sakura Samurai, I could go on. and on. Online play. Online leaderboards. Make it so Nintendo, give me a reason to brag about you again.
