This article was an interesting meta-read. I had to think for a minute, and yes, despite the fact that this game is literally half the series ago now, Black 2 and White 2 were the last Pokémon games I would give a letter grade of A. There have been several games since that had some memorable aspects to them, but ultimately, no entry has excelled as a video game since the 2D era. However, I'm thankful that they managed to keep me as a fan all the way up to the present because one thing I can praise Game Freak for is that they make sure each individual entry doesn't feel identical to its predecessor, for better or worse. To me, despite appreciating Sun and Moon, Sword and Shield were the epitome of safe, and yet immediately afterwards, we got Legends: Arceus, Scarlet and Violet, and Legends: Z-A, with the dream game Champions coming soon and with leaks suggesting even higher ambition in the future if you can believe it. It very much looks as though the developers consistently want to make the best game they can, but the top people for one reason or another have been imposing limitations on them and only recently have they been gradually opening up to the idea that distinct games with more development time and more substance do in fact sell better.
Why do they keep pretending the Switch ports are original games? Where's Super Mario Advance or Super Mario 64 DS? They don't have to be that gung-ho about advertising a console that's no longer even current.
@NTELLIGENTMAN Well, I doubt they'll even go up to $400, but the reason the base and OLED Switch are relatively expensive is that you have a more affordable Lite option. Oh, and inflation and technology simply got bigger.
Not only is it too much (half a grand for Pete's sake), but it won't happen. Don't report on random "analyst" predictions and just wait for the console to be announced, even if it's less profitable.
The median between May 2024 and March 2025 is October 2024. Combined with the fact that it's confirmed to be after June and that there were rumors that suggested an internal delay to March (which they have no incentive to say unless it was correct), I'm going with an October reveal and March release.
I tested it, and it turns out game titles are not auto-generated on Shorts. They have to be chosen manually (unless it's dependent on the popularity of the channel). Either way, it's not concrete evidence.
Games are computer applications. People write them, not hardware. If Rockstar has any interest in putting this game on a Nintendo console, they can write the game to work properly for it, removing or reducing whatever they have to, properly coding, etc. This is silly. What you see in the trailer is what would potentially perform badly on a new Nintendo console.
I'm not a fan of this article's headline. It implies there's any chance the Switch successor will fail when we know from 33 consecutive years of history that it won't if it's part handheld. I'm certain Nintendo doesn't fear that their next console will fail; just that it will be less successful. It's yet another case of people not being keen enough about what kind of console the Switch is.
@shining_nexus It's kinda disappointing that so many people are essentially telling Nintendo to just make a more powerful Switch for the sake of being monetarily safe (and because "gimmicks are bad") when Iwata had the opposite mentality with the DS and Wii yet they were the most lucrative consoles to date.
I don't think there's any real concern. It's just instinctual. All the developers and game series they have on the Switch will transition to the next console and most people will continue to play those games on said next console. Both the 3DS and Wii U were less broadly appealing than their predecessors for different reasons. The former was a victim of bad timing, where the DS had loads of owners who weren't necessarily Nintendo fans and the 3DS was straight-up outcompeted by smartphones (as silly as that is), and the latter had its own internal problems (marketing, number of games, split development teams, etc.) that prevented it from doing well on top of intentionally not trying to to be a broad-market console. Does it seem like Nintendo has any of these problems moving into the Switch's successor?
So um...I've had to replace every single part of my launch Switch other than the Joy-Con rails and motherboard. Admittedly, I shared my Switch with my very rough family and friends, so I have no anecdote of how well I alone would've taken care of it. I will say my personal OLED's anti-scattering film has gotten two nicks on it in a single month, but I chalk that up to crap material.
@swoose The game was pegged from the beginning as a singleplayer game that focused on completing the Pokedex, and that's exactly what it is. It adds some story, lore, and sidequests on top of it, but little else. I think most of the positivity towards the game is a sigh of relief that the gameplay and scenario were overhauled, but in reality, it can't possibly appeal to everyone's tastes due to that very specific premise.
Guys, the Switch successor will come out in 2023 and BotW2 will come out in 2021. The former is practically confirmed by Nintendo and the latter is highly likely. Let's not jump to conclusions about it being delayed to the next system. It's a game using the same engine and map and certainly won't need six or even five years of development.

@kartus There's a middle ground between hating the haters and acknowledging the criticisms. Pokemon can be far better than it has been.
