@AllBLK it is especially stupid since a huge reason the switch is a massive success is due to Covid happening. Yes it was doing really well before but it cannot be understated how much Covid helped to drive up sales on the console. People bought a game console that hadn’t bought one since the Wii as they were stuck inside for months on end and needed something to do with their families. The switch was cheaper than any other game console at the time, had games with a focus on local multiplayer, and came with two controllers out of the box. It was the perfect console for any family that needed a way to entertain their kids during lockdown. The switch 2 does not have that benefit anymore especially since the price is a lot closer to their competitors’ prices now. A significant portion of the people who bought the switch are going to have no interest in getting the switch 2 and somehow Nintendo fails to realize that so they are okay with pissing off the people who would have bought it day one before.
@GrailUK to add to the list of contenders for worst console launch: the 3DS being overpriced so much that months later the price had to be dropped $70 to get it to sell. Then let’s add the Vita which had pretty much no internal memory and used proprietary memory cards which were way too expensive.
There is a common factor to all of those terrible launches. Each one comes after a company’s previous console did extremely well and they thought they could do no wrong. It all comes down to hubris. These game companies think after their last console sold so well they can get away with no longer being consumer friendly. They can either rebound in the next generation (Sony with PS4 and Nintendo with Switch) or keep fumbling the ball (Microsoft still hasn’t fully recovered from the terrible XBOne reveal to this day). The fact this is the 3rd god damn time Nintendo has done this is inexcusable though
@YaGirlSkyByte the difference is now you can’t play the digital games on multiple systems anytime you want. Now you can’t play only play a game on a single system at a time and you manually have to pick what system it is on. Basically Nintendo got rid of the benefits of owning digital games but people here are going to eat it up because “Nintendo”
