Maybe if Nintendo quit trying to resell the same games on every platform people wouldn't feel the need to pirate the games. How many times do I have to pay for Super Mario Brothers???
I agree with Bass XO, it's nice to sit on your butt and hit a golf ball. I am very interested in seeing the technology in action. More power to him if it works as great as he says. Nintendo beat everybody to the punch, but hasn't quite dominated the dojo....
No one really NEEDS any games, but people WANT them and EXPECT them as it was a selling point from the beginning. The issue is why Nintendo chooses to ignore the obvious demand. My guess is that they are running low on the most popular titles so they have to release them slowly so by the time we buy them all, they can release the next console and sell them to us all over again. Yeah.
P.S. I NEED Ring King on the VC! Preferrably an arcade port, but I'd even settle for the NES version.
Ultra put out the NES version. They also put out Defender of the Crown. Anyway, the NES version was packaged with a map, I probably still have my box and everything. Wasted a summer of my life on the high seas, comparing ranks and scores with friends, constantly trying to court the pretty blonde wench! Ah, the silver train! I believe I've played all the versions of it. I think they're all pretty similar, a must have action RPG. The dancing in the modern versions is kind of a pain, but it's fun the first few times.
Has everyone completely forgotten the 8 bit NES days? EVERYTHING IS A SMB RIPOFF! Who cares! This game looks excellent and will cost a fraction of the price. I don't care if I'm controlling the most famous plumber of all time or a no name with a jet pack as I long as I'm getting my platform on. I've played with worse. What's your favorite SMB ripoff? Yo Noid? The Blues Brothers? Sonic....ooops I said it.
Don't care about HD, give us some updated graphics for crying out loud!!!! I would really like to see Nintendo put out a version of Madden that doesn't feel like a compromise. Anyone else?
Demographics, demographics, demographics. Fact: Nintendo focuses more on the "all-ages crowd" than the "serious gaming" crowd. All the kids want Pokemon and aren't old enough to buy a game with a racey "T" rating. This game will still do well, but it won't be one of those "must buy" games because it isn't catering to the largest portion of Wii owners. Sad but true.
Oh, big surprise. Nintendo says "Buy this game, then buy it for your Wii to get all the features we didn't include." This game looks lame as hell. What creativity comes from a bunch of crappy presets? What about using objects you draw with the stylus? Boo. "Let your imagination run wild"?....as long as it's within the confines of what we sell you on 2 different platforms. If people wouldn't buy every half-a** cross promotional game Nintendo puts out we might get some better ones.
Harsh score given a mostly postive review and the fact that many games that are far worse yet receive better scores. For $6, I'd give this an 8. I paid $50 for Sports Resort and the swordfighting isn't NEARLY as good as Ghostslayer.
Looks pretty good especially for 6 bucks. Wii Ware is actually keeping my faith alive lately. Funny thing is, I bet this game turns out better than the original red steel which we all paid $50 for!
Peripherals are lame. They don't help or add realism. Nothing compares to swinging a weighted club, but the Wii is not capable of mimicking true motion in real time.
On the Tiger note, EA would be completely foolish to drop Tiger. Without him the PGA doesn't even exist. Don't believe me? Ask him how much more his offers to come play a tourney are now compared to before "the incident". Nobody's gonna buy Vijay's golf and this is coming from a Vijay fan! lol
I'm playing through it now and I like it. It is not a remake of the NES classic so you won't feel like you've wasted any points by purchasing a graphics update of the same game. Playing this one makes it fun to go play the old one too and you will appreciate the improvements of Overdrive.
Excellent point RyuZebian. In fact, it's hard to argue that Wii games look any better than Gamecube games graphically speaking. They missed the "HD boat" to be the low cost option, relying on motion technology to set them apart. Mission accomplished except the motion controls often fall short and third party games are consistently better on the other consoles. Also, with the XBOX and PS3 lowering their prices and offering more features and big name titles, the Wii is hardly the best value anymore.
Sounds like he's the one with the emotional attachment. If the demand was there and the money was there, any game would be remade. That's the classic Nintendo business model. Looking at a remake like Mario 64 on the DS, his point is well validated. BUT, that game was still released and made a nice chunk of change for the big N.
@Raylax- Relax. Go look up "hypocrisy". If you can't take an opinion that doesn't match yours, then why don't YOU "shove off". If everyone agreed all the time, there would be no point to having comments. Everyone would take their soma and say "well done".
I agree with everyone who notices that Famitsu is much softer on the ratings these days. Seems to be a pretty common trend. All I know is that even Nintendo Power gave it a 9. This game has its share flaws if you can get over the nostalgia factor which is not easy for some. I think Galaxy 2 will make a stronger case for a top rating because it takes advantage of what the Wii is truly capable of.
Wow, looks like I missed out on "God talk", and some decent debate. As a general rule, it's never good to read your own reviews. As a better rule, it's best to leave religion out of a video game debate. I guess that would just take all the fun out of it now wouldn't it? I can just be glad that I have a strong back, unlike some people. Corbie, I think you've taken the "criticism" better than your fans. Hate me all you want, this site badly needs someone to play devil's advocate. I'm happy to oblige.
@deadly.by.design- you're treading on thin ice, clearly there are NO issues with the game at all.
Another argument that leads to the obvious conclusion: introduce .5 increments in the rating scale. It sounds to me like the reviewers have tough time deciding between a 9 and a 10, likewise an 8 or a 9. Imagine, a range twice as big as the existing one, WOW! The statistics nerds go wild!
@Corbie Yeah, yeah, yeah. The only one who'd have a gigantic pile of 9's is you, Corbie. But you'd have to lay of the 10's in order to collect a pile of 9's. If you don't want your reveiws to be critiqued, don't write them. This is what the site is for! Be tough, don't it so personally. I still like you.
Good man, Sean. You save that 10! I'm just old school that way I suppose. To me, there's always something that can be done better, and a good review will tell you what that is and how strongly it affects the overall package. Nintendo Power, for instance, brought up the "accidental spin" issue with the controls. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning as it can certainly be frustrating.
@110, You're exactly right, part of the role of writing a review is not only encourage people to buy good games, but discourage people from buying bad games. But what's the point if the review is totally biased and perfect scores, which should be rare if even possible, are handed out frequently. I'm not saying that this isn't a good game, even worth buying. But come on, EVEN NINTENDO POWER GAVE IT A 9!!!! Let's be realistic. That's all.
Every 10 you guys hand out to Nintendo takes away from your credibility as a reviewer. Great review? I strongly disagree. This should be a $35 DS title. Even then, review it, critique it, and give it a realistic rating.
@mjc: I can re-read it (my last sentence) all day long. Reggie did the same thing. Period. Both removed a key compatibility feature from the new version of the old product. The problem is that both companies are trying to keep the same core name for a different core product. The DSi is not like the DS. The PSPGo is not like the PSP. They should name the system something different. This argument is like two politicians trying to convince people that they are the lesser of 2 evils instead of the best candidate for the people.
For once I agree with Corbie and I have to say, it's more fun than I imagined! Inside Bowser gets an 8.5 though!
Funny how the author says the staff works for "a drop of oil". If only you guys knew the cost of a drop of oil....how bout "workin for peanuts", I assure you the costs are much lower.
Look who's talking, Reggie. The DSi cut out the ability to play GBA games, the internet connectivity sucks, and the camera is worthless. The only reason to buy one is to buy DSiware games. At least Sony is trying something other than selling people games they already own.
Great review, Corbie. And you know I don't throw that around loosely!
This game was and IS so good, a breath of fresh air in the same way Beyond Oasis was. And you're right, half the fun is to try to uncover all the secrets. I'm a big fan of Illusion of Gaia, tough to say which better. Apples and oranges, both are super games.

Re: Kid Icarus: Uprising
The original was one of the most difficult NES games out there. They sure don't make em like they used to! Hopefully this won't be too easy.

Terrible week for North America. I'd sooner cut my fingers off than pay $10 for Bejeweled, let alone actually waste time playing it. BOO!
Re: Review: Frogger Returns (DSiWare)
Lame and easy? It's a high score game. You play for bragging rights, not because "you're good" or "you can beat it". GLC forever, baby!
GLC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Mario Party series has been terrible. Mario party 8 stunk! No two ways about it. I'm looking forward to someone else taking a stab at it.
