Re: Yo-kai Watch Hits North America on 6th November to Kick Off Bombardment of Tie-Ins and Promotions

Oh good, Europe gets let down by NoE again. Was worried when I read the article title that Nintendo would actually be doing something nice for Europe.

Seriously, Europe has next to nothing for the 3DS. An Animal Crossing spinoff about designing houses? A multiplayer game that only works in one player or three player? I suppose finally getting Devil Survivor 2 will be something.

Re: Chris Pranger From Nintendo Treehouse Discusses Harsh Realities Of Localisation

He sounds grumpy. Reaallly grumpy.

Look at Fire Emblem: Awakening here. That would have sunk its localization costs if they hadn't properly advertised it, and as a result, it sold piles of copies. If Nintendo actually advertises these games which come over, they will sell properly, since there is a dedicated market for this, and saying that the fanbase is too small is actually rather ignorant when taking into account the large portion of JRPG's which get released yearly and which evidently profit. In a market that's crowded by games, you have to put the effort in to publicize your game - you can't just expect it to sell on it's own and then say it didn't do well enough.

It's obvious that some games which people want localized are going to be localized into a tiny market, and thus not sell very well. But that's the surprising minority of these localized games people want. He uses Xenoblade up there - I firstly find it hard to believe that it selling over a million copies means it hasn't met the costs of localization, and my second point is that if they hadn't localized it, then X probably wouldn't get localized, and they're trying to brand that a system seller. Games need to be advertised to sell, and they need to be established to sell. Bringing something over with no effort or investment in your product means it probably is going to fail.

Of course, ditching Europe and not bringing the game you've already spent time and money localizing to a second market where it could sell even more copies just sounds like they're setting it up to fail. But we all know Nintendo's policies on Europe are incredibly backwards anyway.

Re: Nintendo's Corporate Social Responsibility Report Outlines Company Goals, With amiibo a Focus

Without meaning any disrespect to Iwata (everyone has to respect him, tbh. The man changed the gaming world), I'm actually looking forward to a new leader at Nintendo.

Two reasons, really. I don't blame either of them on Iwata himself, persay, but the buck has to stop with the man in charge, regardless of how great a man he was.

Firstly, Nintendo has and is loosing it's way. I'm not a fanboy, I own all last-gen consoles, a 3DS and New 3DS, a PSVita, a WiiU and will be purchasing a PS4. The amiibo craze got out of hand and was a disaster, and wasn't rectified fast enough. Then you've got things like AC Amiibo Festival, which is morally grey as far as i'm concerned. The New 3DS is a waste and currently being wasted, since enough games which utilize it's processing power and hardware upgrades aren't being developed. Even if it's like Monster Hunter 4, which worked on them both but had clear upgrades for the New 3DS, this needs to be the policy - Nintendo is indirectly alienating people who brought the new handheld by not using it.

Secondly, Nintendo needs to focus on the world outside of Japan. They might lose their sincerity and their code of ethics if they do this, but they can't continue the ethos of "Japan first" if they want to realistically keep all their fans happy. Localization on some games is a joke, and if you live in Europe and want the full 3DS library, you're going to have to wait longer or import an American 3DS. I personally don't think this is okay. Europe has things America wants, and America has things Europe wants. But Japan has everything. It's not a sound global buisiness plan.

I'm not actually sure how much of this was Iwata's fault, since if he was sick for a whle, the shareholders and other leaders might have been making decisions for him, or forcing his hand on a few occasions. But that's just my opinion, anyway. A great man passed away, but continuing down his road is foolish.
