@Yosti But there IS a physical release in June. I should know, as I have it pre-ordered! That is the FACTS, my friend! I should also know that, as I'm strictly a facts person! Plus, the facts have proven you to be wrong! I'm not trying to sound impolite by saying that, but it's still true! A SEGA representative confirmed a physical release to my local game store, which is how I was able to pre-order it! They're getting it from this store! https://www.play-asia.com/sonic-origins/13/70ejj1
@Andy_C444 For one, I've pre-ordered the game physically, so it is indeed getting one! Second, speaking the truth does NOT make one a jerk- just so you know! Third, the PlayStation Store on both PS4 and PS5 directly mentions a physical release. Fourth, this store has as well! https://www.play-asia.com/sonic-origins/13/70ejj1
@samuelvictor See, the difference between that and my store is that my store makes sure to directly contact the company releasing the game in order to make 100% certain that there will be a physical release of a game before they even offer pre-orders for it. As such, they actually DO get insider information, as a SEGA representative has to confirm that there will 100% be a physical release of a game before they even offer pre-orders for it! In other words, they get the company's own permission to begin to start offering pre-orders for a game to begin with! They started doing that once they had hundreds of VERY angry customers who were upset about pre-ordering a physical copy of DOOM Eternal on Nintendo Switch that ended up being a lie, and as such to prevent that from happening again, they've contacted the company directly ever since! I've also never had a pre-order get cancelled through this store, and since they typically do not even sell copies of digital-only games with VERY few exceptions (such as the fact that the first and ONLY game I've ever purchased there that was a digital code in a box- which they informed me of being the case before I even pre-ordered it I might add- was Overwatch on Nintendo Switch, which is also one of the VERY few games that they do sell despite being digital only on that console), and since they are required BY LAW to let somebody know if a game is a digital only title before they even allow you to pre-order it, the fact that I was not told that is proof of it not being one, which also remains on topic of the SEGA representative told them! The last thing my local game store wants is that many angry customers again, which is why they do that now! They didn't always do that before, but ever since the DOOM Eternal Nintendo Switch fiasco they've done that each and every time!
@samuelvictor It's not just a single employee that I've spoken to about it- it's actually multiple employees! I've checked with other ones now so that I could know for certain, and since multiple employees were able to confirm one, that- along with the fact that they got official confirmation from a SEGA representative that there is one incoming- that means that there is indeed one coming! If there wasn't, I wouldn't have been able to pre-order it whatsoever!
@samuelvictor No, I've been completely reading your posts- I'm actually known for that, as since most people don't do that, I like being different than those who just ignore posts! I'm also not a troll- in fact- I'm an expert troll-hunter! What that means is that I hunt down and expose internet trolls as being the typical morons that they are, and as such I've gotten extremely good at that! However, I haven't had the need to even do that here, which is a very good thing if you ask me! I'm just against misinformation being spread, which is why I've been out there sharing the true information based on what I've been told/heard, as well as the factual evidence that proves it! I just want people to know the real, actual information, and that doesn't make one a "troll"- in fact, it makes them the polar opposite of one! Just so you're aware of that!
@samuelvictor Actually, there are multiple locations of the store in my city, but they're all exclusive to that city! Just so you're aware! P.S. The reason I'm sharing that is because it's obviously BS to say anything else with all of the evidence that points towards a physical copy I mentioned already, which is why I know better than to believe it! That's why I'm stating the facts based on what I know/heard!
@samuelvictor Well, you never responded to the fact that the Playstation Store on both PS4 and PS5 directly mentions a physical copy either! Plus, while the local game store I'm referring to is VERY popular where I'm from, it's pretty much unknown anywhere else, as it's exclusive to the city I live in! So, you wouldn't have heard of it, and anyone outside of where I'm from doesn't even know it exists, so there's that too! It does exist where I'm from, and it's especially huge here too, but if I were to share that, it would be giving away my exact location, and I don't like doing that! I hope you can understand that much!
@samuelvictor My local game store is required by law to let a person know if a game will be a digital download code in a box before they even allow somebody to pre-order the game in store, so if that would've been the case, then I wouldn't have had it preordered at all! Also, the PlayStation Store confirmed a physical copy- even more so than PlayAsia did, and not only that, even if Sonic IS more popular in the West, that hasn't stopped certain games from getting physical releases in Asia or other regions NOT counting North America!
@samuelvictor I don't know- all of the physical games I've purchased from PlayAsia have been ones that were said "there are no plans of a physical release" in North America, and you wouldn't have seen announced anywhere else that there will be one in Asia or any other country- and it was only PlayAsia that confirmed it by having a physical copy on their store, so that's likely the case here! Plus, there's other games that are FAR bigger than Sonic in Japan that got physical releases in Asian countries but not North America, and that had the thing said about them as Sonic Origins! SEGA of North America also has no say whatsoever as to what SEGA of Japan or any other SEGA regional variant does, which is why SEGA of North America likely has no idea that SEGA of Japan had plans of releasing a physical copy in their region, because PlayAsia wouldn't have even had it available on their store if there wasn't a physical release coming to even just Asia! Also, like I said, my local game store would've informed me by now that there will absolutely not be any physical release if that were the case, nor would the PlayStation Store on both PS4 and PS5 mention one!
@samuelvictor You are aware that PlayAsia has put out physical copies of games that either didn't get physical copies in North America or other countries, correct? They've done it many different times over the years, and I happen to own a number of the physical releases that have been released through their store over the years- with the most recent one I've purchased being Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition! Plus, a lot of those games are ones that have not/did not/will not get physical releases in other countries, and since the Switch is region-free, you can import the games and play them with full English support on a North American Switch, or another country's Switch with no issues whatsoever! In other words, Sonic Origins was never disconfirmed to have a physical copy in Asian regions at launch, and as such they could very well release one there on launch day- even though they technically couldn't in North America without one being officially confirmed (even though I personally don't buy that, as I would've been informed of there being absolutely no physical release whatsoever by now by my local game store, so the fact that I wasn't informed of that means that chances are that statement is complete and utter BS), and since it was solely SEGA of North America's announcement, that would mean that SEGA of Japan could very well release one, which is the most logical explanation for the physical copy on PlayAsia's store! Also, the PlayStation Store on both PS4 and PS5 specifically mentions a physical copy, which is another reason as to why I don't buy that there isn't going to be a physical edition at launch, because there's too much evidence to the contrary for me to believe anything else!
@Captain-N I already have the physical version pre-ordered through my local game store, so it's getting one! I would've been informed by now if it wasn't getting one at all, so there's that too! Also, PlayAsia has it available on their store!
Well, considering that an official localization of Mother 3 was already confirmed a couple of years ago alongside a script book compiling the scripts from all 3 Mother/EarthBound games- and by Shigesato Itoi's own company nonetheless- it's only a matter of time until an official localization happens, as there's plenty of Mother/EarthBound fans who refuse to play illegal, unofficial fan translations and would only play the game when it gets an official localization!
Well, it's already going to happen! I mean, it was confirmed as of a couple of years ago that an official Mother 3 localization was coming alongside a script book of the whole series- which Shigesato Itoi's own company confirmed! So, it's coming!
@UltraZelda64 One other thing- I know you're on Xbox, so you likely didn't know this, but on the PlayStation Store on PS4 and PS5 it mentions a physical copy, and the PlayAsia store also has a physical copy that you can order as well. Not only that, a SEGA representative confirmed to my local game store that a physical release is indeed happening, which is why I was able to pre-order the game physically on Nintendo Switch a couple of days ago, so I assure you that it's happening!
@UltraZelda64 And yes- physical copies always have been and always will be FAR more profitable than digital copies ever will, because with a digital game, you don't even own the game- you're just paying for a temporary license of the game that could very well disappear permanently at any point. With a physical game- on the other hand- you actually own the game, and even if the game is removed digitally, you can always pop the game into your console and play it, which is why digital will NEVER be as profitable as physical, and not only that, digital-only games shouldn't even exist to begin with! It's physical or nothing, baby!
@UltraZelda64 People only bought Sonic Mania digitally because it was a brand new Sonic game. Sonic Origins is a collection of 4 older games, and as such will not make anywhere NEAR as much money as if it were a new game, and not only that- the games are available on multiple other consoles still, and for typically cheaper, which is why SEGA will not make the same amount of money with a collection of older titles then they would with a brand new game. That's the ONLY reason why Sonic Mania sold as well as it did digitally- if it had not been a brand new game, I 100% assure you that it would not have sold very well digitally. Digital games in general are a VERY bad idea, and since physical is the way of the future, nobody in their right mind would buy a game like Sonic Origins digitally- ESPECIALLY if they own the games in other ways! There's also no way that you could even have Sonic Origins installed on your Xbox without it being hacked, as the game isn't even out until June! Even with pre-ordering in advance, it wouldn't actually install until 12:00 midnight on the day the game launches-- which in this case is June 23rd. I know how these things go!
@UltraZelda64 Also, nobody officially from SEGA besides the representative that spoke to my local game store has said that there will be no physical copy. On the contrary in fact! I mean, even the PlayStation Store has mentions of a physical copy, and PlayAsia also has a listing for it! The evidence of a physical copy is right there- underneath your very nose!
@UltraZelda64 Also, Sonic Origins won't have DLC, as it's not new games- it's old ones! Sonic Mania was a new game, and so DLC made sense for it! There's literally nothing new that SEGA could add that would result in them releasing a physical copy later on, and nobody would be buying it if there's no physical copy right off the bat. SEGA would lose far more money by releasing the game digital-only, because the game collectors are the ones that really matter as far as sales go, and if they don't support games that don't get physical copies, then there's no way that Sonic Origins would sell enough at launch without a physical copy! That much is obvious!
@UltraZelda64 You can believe it though, as this was an official SEGA representative. I made sure I asked my local game store if they contact official representatives, or if it's someone else, and they 100% assured me that it's the official representatives that they speak to! It's also the official representatives that tell them if they can start accepting pre-orders for games of theirs, so my local game store would not have even had it available for pre-order in their system if they didn't get permission or clarification by SEGA themselves to do so! So, that can only mean that the so-called "public word" is nothing more than a lie, as the "public word" that my local game store got from SEGA was confirmation of a physical release!
@Knuckles That's obviously incorrect, as my local game store got clarification from SEGA themselves that a physical copy was incoming, so they wouldn't have had a pre-order option available at all if there wasn't a physical copy coming at all. I just pre-ordered it a couple of days ago, so if there wouldn't have been a physical copy at all, then they would've mentioned it, and I wouldn't have been able to pre-order it as a result! So, the PR rep that spoke to my local game store confirmed that one is indeed happening, which means that the other PR reps saying anything else are obviously lying! That doesn't mean you're incorrect, but it helps to take into consideration that the PR rep that my local game store spoke to confirmed a physical release was coming!
@Knuckles Actually, there is a physical copy of Sonic Origins! I already have it pre-ordered through my local game store, and since my local game store always makes sure to contact the company releasing the game directly in order to make 100% sure that there will be a physical copy before they even open pre-orders for it, the fact that they did open pre-orders means that the SEGE representative that they contacted confirmed that a physical release was coming, because I wouldn't have been able to pre-order it otherwise! Not only that, the Playstation Store on PS4 and PS5 also mentions a physical release, and PlayAsia even has a page for one, so it's clear that it's getting one!
@samuelvictor You don't have to respond to this, but I just wanted to add that chances are a very small number of people would even buy Sonic Origins digitally on launch if that was all there was, which means that SEGA would make very little to almost no money at all from digital sales by doing things that way! It would only be if a physical copy was coming that the sales of the game would shoot up drastically! I'm not saying you're wrong- far from it in fact, but at the same time I think it would be a stupid idea for SEGA to only release these games digitally when versions of Sonic 1 and 2 are already available digitally on the same consoles that Sonic Origins is releasing on! Even Sonic CD is available on some PlayStation consoles! If people were to buy the games digitally, it would stand to reason that they would much rather buy the games at a much cheaper price on the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Live Arcade, as well as on STEAM and other digital storefronts for cheaper than spend $40+ dollars on the same games in a collection digitally. If it was physical, however, people would spend more money on that because they'd own the games forever by buying the collection in that way! It would be a bad financial decision for SEGA to do things this way overall! That's all I'm getting at! You don't have to respond to this, but I'd still appreciate it if you at least read it! Thanks for being so nice! I'm new here, so I'm glad to have found someone so nice in my first couple of days here!
@Banjo- The PlayStation Store also mentions a physical copy, so it's not just my local game store that knows about that! It's obvious to me that Katie doesn't have all the info, because there's literally no way that my local game store would've allowed pre-orders for Sonic Origins if there was no physical copy incoming at launch. That's just not how they do things! They are very specific with the way they make sure a game is 100% getting a physical copy before they even open pre-orders for a game, so they wouldn't have even done it if there was no physical copy at all! I'm not saying you're wrong or anything like that- far from it- but what I am saying is that someone from SEGA obviously confirmed a physical copy was coming, because there would've been no pre-order option if there wasn't! There also would've been a conversation similar to the following when I went in to pre-order it two days ago if there was no physical copy:
Me: Hi, I'd like to pre-order Sonic Origins please!
Local game store employee: I'm sorry, but that game isn't getting a physical release, so we're not accepting pre-orders for it.
@Banjo- Katie isn't an official SEGA representative though- just because she runs the Sonic social media pages does not make her an official SEGA representative. Anybody could run a social media page like that, and it doesn't make them an official representative! It could be any ordinary average Joe like you or me running a page like that, and if it was it wouldn't make us official SEGA representatives! It was also never announced anywhere else but there, so I wouldn't necessarily take Katie's word for it, as like I said, she's not an official SEGA representative! That's why the fact that I was able to pre-order the game physically just two days ago when my local game store does not even allow pre-orders for a game that they know for a fact will not be getting a physical release at all and only make allow it if they get confirmation from the company releasing the game beforehand leads me to believe that a physical copy is indeed coming at launch, because if it wasn't, I would not have been able to pre-order it at all. I'm also certain that it's not just my local game shop that was told this, as it wouldn't make a lot of sense for them to be the only one told. But since I don't shop at any other game store besides this one, my local game store is the only one that I know for absolute certainty, but I'm sure that other game stores have been told as well! Also, if a physical copy was not coming at launch, then the PlayStation Store would not have mentioned one either!
@samuelvictor I never thought you were coming off as annoying or anything! You seem like an upstanding individual! But keep in mind that SEGA would be losing more sales by releasing the game as a digital-title only, as the people who are solely physical buyers will refuse to buy it unless there's a physical copy! So, as a result of that, SEGA would be losing a lot more money than they would've if they didn't release a physical copy at all, as there are far more physical-only buyers out there than digital ones!
@samuelvictor While I agree with you, just as a question- if it's coming later and not sooner, than why was I able to pre-order a physical copy of the game that releases on the same day the digital version does? Not only that, why would a representative from SEGA confirm a physical copy so that pre-orders could be made? I'm thinking there's some stuff we don't even know yet! The game doesn't release for just under 2 months, we don't know everything yet!
@samuelvictor I getcha! But also keep in mind that my friend has SKUs for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions of Sonic Origins in their system, which obviously means that it's not under a different name. Not only that, they got their confirmation from a representative at SEGA, so it's a little more than just a coincidence! As for the other part, I personally do not consider Sonic Mania Plus and the eShop listing of Sonic Mania + Encore DLC to be different games, as to me- that's the same!

Re: Switch Versions Of Sonic 1 And 2 Are Safe As SEGA Plans To Delist Classic Games
Re: Switch Versions Of Sonic 1 And 2 Are Safe As SEGA Plans To Delist Classic Games
@Knuckles I only buy and play physical games.
Re: Switch Versions Of Sonic 1 And 2 Are Safe As SEGA Plans To Delist Classic Games
Re: Switch Versions Of Sonic 1 And 2 Are Safe As SEGA Plans To Delist Classic Games
Re: Switch Versions Of Sonic 1 And 2 Are Safe As SEGA Plans To Delist Classic Games
Re: Switch Versions Of Sonic 1 And 2 Are Safe As SEGA Plans To Delist Classic Games
Re: Switch Versions Of Sonic 1 And 2 Are Safe As SEGA Plans To Delist Classic Games
Re: Gallery: Brand New Screenshots Of Sonic Origins, Out On Switch This June
@samuelvictor Thanks my friend! But keep in mind that it's not just Sonic games that I'm passionate about, but all video games!
Re: Gallery: Brand New Screenshots Of Sonic Origins, Out On Switch This June
@Banjo- You were absolutely nice to me, so don't worry! Also, will do!
Re: Gallery: Brand New Screenshots Of Sonic Origins, Out On Switch This June
Re: Gallery: Brand New Screenshots Of Sonic Origins, Out On Switch This June
Re: Gallery: Brand New Screenshots Of Sonic Origins, Out On Switch This June
Re: Gallery: Brand New Screenshots Of Sonic Origins, Out On Switch This June
@samuelvictor I never thought you were coming off as annoying or anything! You seem like an upstanding individual! But keep in mind that SEGA would be losing more sales by releasing the game as a digital-title only, as the people who are solely physical buyers will refuse to buy it unless there's a physical copy! So, as a result of that, SEGA would be losing a lot more money than they would've if they didn't release a physical copy at all, as there are far more physical-only buyers out there than digital ones!
Re: Gallery: Brand New Screenshots Of Sonic Origins, Out On Switch This June
@samuelvictor While I agree with you, just as a question- if it's coming later and not sooner, than why was I able to pre-order a physical copy of the game that releases on the same day the digital version does? Not only that, why would a representative from SEGA confirm a physical copy so that pre-orders could be made? I'm thinking there's some stuff we don't even know yet! The game doesn't release for just under 2 months, we don't know everything yet!
Re: Gallery: Brand New Screenshots Of Sonic Origins, Out On Switch This June
@samuelvictor I getcha! But also keep in mind that my friend has SKUs for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions of Sonic Origins in their system, which obviously means that it's not under a different name. Not only that, they got their confirmation from a representative at SEGA, so it's a little more than just a coincidence! As for the other part, I personally do not consider Sonic Mania Plus and the eShop listing of Sonic Mania + Encore DLC to be different games, as to me- that's the same!
