@Peach64 You do realize that 1st party Ninty games don't ever broach subjects that hit on topics like this don't you? They are the LEAST likely to have anything cut because they rarely explore sensitive themes. Something they get criticized fairly often for could actually turn into a boon. Thanks for the enlightenment though
Of the 3 big console companies, Nintendo stands to make the most money. There is so little of Ninty's content that would have to censored or cut. The majority of their games could be released as is. If they Ninty doesn't make an idiot move, they could stand to make A LOT of bank.
Delay it to make it better? No problems here. Everybody else that's crying...really!? No, you're all right. Ninty needs to hold to their announced timeframes. That way we can have updates that brick our systems (without interrupting the power). We can have incomplete games released that need multiple patches applied for a playable, enjoyable experience, To make deadlines they'll also be able to cut sections of game out and add as DLC later, maybe they'll even charge us for it
@siavm I say end region locking and I've given Disaster: Day of Crisis as an example...
I've also seen examples for Another Code R and most recently, One Piece. I'm sure there are A LOT more games in full English that could be played between plenty of English speaking regions if locking was lifted. Factor in people that travel for long periods of time, people that speak/read foreign languages and could enjoy foreign games...seems like a lot of missed sales and unsatisfied fans to me...
I want this game badly! I hope it introduces FE fans to SMT and vice versa while also drawing in new fans to either series. I think crossovers and collaborations are great ideas.
I've had this pre-ordered for awhile, just eagerly awaiting my chance to dive in. Grrr and the promotion will probably have me buying Fire Emblem (sorry Pikmin 3...I have to skip you until much later).
@GearsOfWarU Exactly! I have no complaints about their library. Of everything that I still have, I'm maybe halfway through completing my list. I also have a 3DS and PC (gotta love steam). I don't have enough time to enjoy all and I don't impulsively buy, but the option is there if my interest is piqued towards a PC/3DS/ or Wii U title. Right now, I'm focused on supporting the Wii U and will have to snag hot 3DS titles later. If Ninty kept a 1 release per month schedule (1st and 3rd party), I would still be behind...waaayyy behind. There are also some Wii gems that I still need to pick up.
Anyone that has enough time AND money to pick up all hot titles AND play them on multiple consoles may want to consider spending some time unplugged from their entertainment boxes or get a job.
@GearsOfWarU If more people supported their Ninty console this way, 3rd party support would never be an issue...DS II, AC III, COD BLOPS II, and ZombiU all at launch for me. MH3U came at release and I will be gifting myself a monthly game between now and Dec, haha.
Platinum trumps Ninty games should I have to choose one over the other.
I'd recommend people read the Iwata Asks with the heads of Platinum Games. They talk about their vision as a game company and it's very commendable. Aside from that...F#$% DLC. The best games OF ALL TIME have NO DLC. Games that become criticized have Day 1 DLC, On Disc. Planned during initial dev. etc.
I want a game experience worth my $$, not something that'll nickel and dime me (Not all DLC does that mind you). If the DLC, added characters, levels, weapons, etc is priced reasonably and the core package was never skimped in the 1st place, then right on. That said, I still stand by my earlier statement. "F#$% DLC".
I played the demo, 3D World is a lot of fun. No more Galaxy. Something in the vein of Super Mario 64 would be nice. Just don't make it anything like Sunshine
Iwata:
1. Head of company when the Wii was introduced which flew off of shelves.
2. Took 50% paycut during time when 3DS was struggling
3. Stands against layoffs that would increase near term profits because he has better long term vision
And people on this site have still said he needs to be fired (under different article). smh
Before anything, Nintendo would be a portable only company. They aren't going to stop making consoles because of a poor launch. Sony didn't...Microsoft won't...and neither will Nintendo. I would bet that we'd see Sega/Nintendo merge before we ever saw Nintendo bow out of consoles.
@hydeks ZombiU was definitely my favorite experience in a love/hate way. I made the mistake of playing in the dark, windows behind me open, and having to endure the noise that my blinds would make -_- Maybe I'm just a big wuss, but there were times I had to pause it and take a break.
I recommend getting a headset to play it...Ubi did a great job w/ this game's atmosphere
MH3U would also be a great addition if you're into that type of game.
I thought everyone assumed that if Wii U launch failed that Iwata was going to perform Seppuku at the next investor's meeting. Oh well
I like Iwata and I want him to be head at Ninty for a long time. %50 pay cut during tough 3DS times. Name another company that you know has done that. I respect the way Nintendo handles their customers. I do not respect many western corporations/businesses due to the same reason.
^ I wouldn't mind this at all. Their series are mainly behind certain systems. Nothing wrong with their established fanbases continuing to enjoy their games.
As long as they aren't ruined by whoever swoops in.
Should have done eShop. This thing won't sell crazy enough to warrant physical production and store shelving (I could be wrong...). $10 on eShop and I would MAYYYYYYYYBE think about it...
Above all, I want that SMT x FE game to not be affected. I also hope this does nothing to my Shin Megami on 3DS.
I don't know how things like this normally play out, but if they have to be sold, I at least want Ninty to nab those IPs. I'd be overjoyed if the Wii U could rival the SNES in RPG goodness
Edit: Forgot about Etrian. Now my "nab those IPs (plural)" makes sense, ha.
Even if they don't fully reject a region free idea, there has to be something they can do for digital versions. It's not like they'll lose money on shipped, but not purchased units...
Why aren't you people spamming Nintendo twitter and facebook to drop region locking right now? @ToxieDogg I reeeaaally wanted to play Disaster: Day of Crisis, but never got the chance
How many English language games were pirated because of region locking Nintendo? Make a change...
@Guitardude7 Buy ZombiU (doesnt use CCP though) and BLOPS II. Completely different experience, both net you a zombie fix, both, imo, are very entertaining.
ZombiU is a very tense experience that will probably make you jump. COD is what you'd probably expect, run and gun (zombies mode is lots of fun).
About the Pro Controller...I haven't used mine since the 1st week I bought it, but it's there for multiplayer. I think the gamepad is more comfortable and when I try to use CCP, it just feels too small and awkward. Games that need tight handling (COD) are fine w/ gamepad. I was ranked in top 10 in every category on Zombies using the gamepad. In my opinion, just get CCP for multi and continue using gamepad.
@Spartacus3765 I got into Monster Hunter w/ Tri on the Wii. The difficulty grading in MH3U isn't as steep, but it's still harder towards the last tier of monsters than Tri ever was. There's also free weekly DLC (weapons, quests, challenge matches)
Honestly, there is a huge learning curve. You will learn something new even after playing for 100 hrs. The demo is garbage. It only shows the fighting and you don't even understand your skills, armor, weapon. I strongly recommend picking this game up.
The 1st few hours will teach you the basics. Look up a beginner's guide online. What's great is there are tons of resources to help you adapt to the game online. MH3U replay value is super high. You could easily drop 200 hrs on the game.
@GamerJunkie I didn't pick up NSMBU. Guess what? This is a fantastic deal for me, No matter how you spin it, if you don't have NSMBU, this is a steal if you like platformers. If you do have it, you get the case for Luigi's 1st platformer as main character. I know three people that HAVE NSMBU and are still picking this up retail.
Maybe these activists should be addressing issues in their own countries first...We have a problem w/ homeless, drugs, and crime. I wonder if any drug dealers or crime lords "supply chains" are riddled w/ intimidation and slavery?
Is it right that these people may be working in conditions that "we" deem unfit. From my view no, but are these activists exploring what the alternatives are over there or is this just more ethnocentrism? I think it's wrong that Americans have to work 40 hr weeks to make ends meet and given different circumstances can't always work in "glamorous" jobs, while there are people in the country that put in MUCH less time for MUCH greater pay AND a pension...
I haven't read enough about the issue and honestly don't care to, but if this is SO wrong, what's being done to change it at the source? Just telling Nintendo (or any other company) to audit their supply chain won't shut down these mines. An audit also won't stop every outsourced company from finding a loophole or working harder to conceal their own practice. It also won't stop the people who are exploiting their own people to work them.
Are the activists targeting the outsourced companies that are receiving and distributing? Are they appealing to the leaders/governing body in the Congo? Is the governing body there the problem?
Edit: Those are serious questions, not sarcasm. There was something in the news a long while ago about Starbucks coffee and how much the workers were paid in other countries. What I didn't see, was the education of the workers, the average salary of their citizens, employment rate, etc. People think stuff like this is wrong, but only pass responsibility. Groups tell other groups, YOU have to change it. Pfft. If the people in charge of their respective countries don't see enough "wrong" and let it continue, I don't see how the changes demanded can TRULY be made.
Nintendo doesn't generate revenue from making TVs or the OS that comes factory installed on almost all computers. The other 2 can get away with selling at a greater loss.
Honestly, I don't need an HDD. I have 2 external hard drives. I don't know too many people w/out one. I've also only downloaded 1 game (I was too lazy to go out and grab Injustice). I mainly buy retail. Everyone has their preference and the option is there if you want it. For MANY people that will be downloading games, I think it's a safe bet that they already have hard drives. If they don't, SUCK IT UP AND BUY RETAIL, or use that $60 you have for a game and spend it on a huge external hard drive.
Don't let all the interviews fool you. There will be a Wii U price drop and/or bundle during the holiday season. They just want to keep selling the system between now and then, so they're waiting to make that announcement.
Edit: And enough time has passed that a $50 price drop won't send fans screaming about a Wii U ambassador program. Well...most fans...there are a lot of real "winners" out there. /s
Tough to imagine what he's doing. He's worked on Zelda, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Yoshi's Island. I would guess it's a franchise revival. Everything he's worked on in the past has come out too recently for another installment. Then again, whatever they start work on probably won't be done for 2-3 years, so it could be any one of those franchises.
So much disappointment sorrounding Mario 3D world -_- I played the demo and this is a Day 1 buy for me, it's great. This is not just a 3D land port to console so get that outta your head.
@GreatPlayer I'd say it's because Sonic games appeal to the same audience as the Mario ones (including Sonic Racing transformed). That Sonic racing game saw 25% of its sales on the Wii U. That's insane when you consider the install base of the Wii U vs the PS3 vs the 360.
Sonic and Mario are easily marketed to the older "retro" audience, families, and children. I think its great. I think that Sega should concentrate its older franchises on the Wii U. If there could ever be a potential powerhouse for Nintendo to absorb, it's Sega. Sadly, I remember reading somewhere that Sega still has piles of money, so I don't see that happening soon. Exclusivity deals for certain series isn't a stretch at all though.
The majority of people that will want 2 consoles probably won't be getting an Xbox1/PS4 combo. Plenty will, but not the majority imo.
I do believe Wii U will sell more than 30 mil (Mario Kart Wii sold 30 mil). Alot of the Monster Hunter following either has or will have a Wii U (I think MH4 will also see a Wii U release). Bayonetta cult will buy. Platinum games enthusiasts will buy. RPG fans (if they have any sense) will buy. Casuals will buy (less this time around). Hardcore Ninty fans have bought, many more still waiting to buy. The sales that the Wii U won't enjoy unlike the Wii is all of the hospitals, rehabilitation centers, therapy, psych, elderly care, etc. May have only been like 1 mil, but that's still 1 mil. There are also the PC owners that rock PC/Wii U combo (majority of muliplats hit PC). Then there are the folks that will buy them all.
I saw this a few days ago and it rings very true. Early adopters are a small fraction of your install base over the lifespan of a console. The bulk come after a price cut and during holidays. Late adopters also make up a much larger chunk than early.

Re: Pachter: Without Third Party Support Nintendo Fans May End Up Buying A Second Console
Only time will tell though.
