A loan would be a good idea for them. But maybe they have been refused. We just don't know.
If they have been refused, Kickstarter would be a great way to get the money. But with Nintendo being the company behind the console they are supposedly developing for and if they keep asking banks to support them if they could prove investment is worthwhile, It does leave me wondering why they are asking Joe Public for help.
2 guys leave EA, go independent, make World of Goo and set up a company that helps other independent developers become financial dependant and get their big break. Good honest hard work. Good honest well earned rewards
I do find it slightly odd for a developer to be developing for a Nintendo console but asking us to help fund it. Do Nintendo even know this game exists?
AVGN is a great example of donating money to help someone's dream. James Rolfe differs in that he has provided a service for fans for years that is extremely popular. He asked for donations and he was incredibly nervous about asking for money. But he has shown what he can do. He shows his passion by getting his videos out there himself, granted with extremely small amounts of assistance.
Yes, in the case of CBK you would get your donation back but that may not always be the case in every situation. Various factors may change that. Lack of direction, creative input, staff leaving etc. Maybe it's the idea of not knowing what will be done with the money and having nothing to show in terms of anything substantial.
A small video is great but for they are requesting, people may need more to believe in than someone else's personal dream. You are ultimately funding someone's potential career and for me personally, I would need more to go on that just words to even touch it with a bargepole. But I wish them all the luck in the world. They clearly have a passion for it but it isn't something for me.
I don't believe I'm here to become popular! I'm not here to entertain people. I post my views, receive my hail of bullets and move on. Some people can get a bit enthusiastic when my posts differ to theirs. I don't like the concept of Kickstarter. It's my opinion. You may like it and that's great
Ok, I take that back James. I don't look down on peoples opinions, I just don't always agree with them. If you are willing to donate/ receive money that's great but I personally couldn't. Since I joined here I've been lambasted for having differing opinions -You know who you are! If it comes across that I'm looking down or having an attitude I don't mean it! I'm just not a lover of this whole concept. Some are, I'm not, let's hug!
Just checked Nintendo Video and a download bar just popped up on the Sky 3D video window and changed the video. This is new right? Or have I just never seen it happen before?
We all help war torn and famine ridden countries all around the world in one way or another. We don't ask them to "chip in" Nor would we expect them to.
I paint and draw for people as a money making hobby. I have advertised myself in what I can offer. I don't ask for help because I don't need to.
I could paint a canvas using mucus but if I was asking people to donate if they liked it, a lot of rubbish would be getting released.
If they truly think a project is great, earn your way like everyone else has to.Yes, you get your money back. You get your money back if enough isn't raised.
There is no risk to the reward here. You can't just have people donate money to make something. It's like a bratty child getting it's own way. But hey, if you win their challenge maybe you'll win some of your money back! Well, someone will
I think projects like Mario and Zelda are worthwhile but you don't hear Nintendo asking for money to make them.
So any Tom, Dick and Harry can help to fund the making of anything if they like it? I'm branding this Coinware. As annoying as shovelware but with the option to effectively pay for it twice. (facepalm.gif)
Assassins Creed is the same tired concept regardless if whether it's all on one disc or drip fed to us. Episodic chunks of this are ridiculous. I wouldn't even describe AC as games as such. It's more a slightly padded tech demo with the odd line of dialogue thrown in. As games go, it's a pretty empty, hollow experience.
Metroid doesn't really count surely? If that was on 360 or PS3 it probably wouldn't be a trilogy. It's spread out on Wii because it physically had to be. Couldn't download episodes for it or fit it all on one disc.
As @Chrono said, Mass Effect 1 is full of filler. MAKO anyone? Mass Effect 2 is like playing on a film set and Mass Effect 3? Lazy writing.
Most Zelda games are 20 hours at most? Wow, you sure do rush through them!
Mass Effect is good but it's really nothing more than an over hyped, vacuous, overrated and drawn out series of tired ideas, boring gameplay and weak writing. Honestly, the best thing about it is Seth Green.
To be fair, Skyrim and Skyward Sword can't really be compared lol Both are excellent yes but Skyrim is just a different beast. I wouldn't even call them the same genre. Skyrim is HUGE, goes for looks and sheer content. SS opts for great pacing, beautiful music, lovable characters and fun.
Bethesda also said they would be releasing less but more complete and satisfying DLC rather than the short content of the past right? Less horse armour, more story telling. Anything other than that in games such as these would be a crying shame.
Exactly! You buy a Zelda game to be drawn into another world. Not to be inanely entertained for 5 minutes. Zelda games aren't really games. They are digital journeys and adventures. They work best spread across many hours. Just because some people may not have enough time to sit down and enjoy it as it was designed, doesn't mean it needs changing.
This episodic nonsense would be better suited to Mario
As harsh as it may sound, I don't care if non Zelda fans buy it. Snuggling up to the casuals with games as good as this? Changing a 25 year old formula just to snag a few new people? No! No! No! That's a waste of money. If some people haven't played a Zelda game before in it's 25 year history, then episodic chunks won't change that now.
I buy Zelda games because it's not a game, it's an experience. If people like Nintendogs, great but don't blur that line!
I don't care if it would attract more people. This is Zelda. ZELDA! This is a series that is renowned for it's depth, beauty and innovation. I shudder at the though of a cheap Zelda game.Games such as this are a rarity nowadays and so much hard work and dedication go into making them!
I don't fancy the idea of TLOZ: Granny's First Adventure...
Zelda is to me, the very definition of how a game should be. Leave them as they are! Zelda caters for all camps. It doesn't need silly nonsense like this.
Bad SS sales figures? Who bought it? Yup Zelda fans. That's all that matters
I'm salivating at thought of all that Wii U Giga Byte-age being crammed full of lovely Zelda Goodness! Nintendo make the leap into HD with a powerful console and you suggest tiny games? It maketh no sense to me!
Totally agree with this Kickstarter thing. I'm not a fan. To get the rewards, you have to take risks and not rely on consumers to possibly pay for the development let alone effectively pay for the same thing twice... I'm interested in getting it but please, you pay for making it and I'll pay for the finished product
The analogue sticks are indeed on both sides but look at it upside down. It's the same layout as it is when upright. The buttons would help cater for lefties as when it's upside down, the buttons are in the same place they would be for a right handed player. All I'm saying is because the layout is the same both upside down and the right way up it could be used to help both righties and lefties
An option to hold it upside down for left handed players would be fantastic. I'm a righty but because the Wii U pad looks virtually identical when viewed upside down, a control scheme for lefties would be great
Move the Dpad down to where the odd square thing is and move the analogues to where the Dpad was. And I'm not a fan of all those buttons next to each other. What's the need to bunch up the face buttons when there is so much surface area to fill?!
Plus and minus down by the home button ta!
Does anyone know what the weight distribution of it is? Where is it's battery housed?
After playing with a circlepad, you can keep your analogue sticks. I would put money on it that using this Wii U pad with analogues for a usual play session will hurt your hands unless they were set further down. Put them in the middle and make those buttons bigger! I'm not a 3 year old
I'd love to see a splash of colour maybe in the style of the SNES. I'm a bit bored of all white now.
I'd sooner have a Zelda or Metroid game flying the Nintendo flag at launch. Mario is awesome but if Nintendo want to make an impression with the hardcore (shudder ) they'll need them more than Mario.
