Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World had the best maps in the entire series.

Super Mario Bros. 3 had separate themed maps, while Super Mario World had one huge interconnected map. The NSMB games had pretty decent maps as well.

Super Mario Galaxy 2's map was horrible, extremely linear. It seems Super Mario 3D Land just copies it.

Tanooki everything, even Bullet Bills? A bit overkill don't you think?

According to GoNintendo, you get the golden Tanooki suit after you lose enough lives, and apparently it lets you stay invincible throughout the entire level. This makes the Starman pretty much useless now.

Re: Nintendo Download: 29th September 2011 (North America)

There are plenty of VC games on the Wii already. Nintendo probably thinks the service is full enough now.

And hooray for Super Mario Land 2! Now we need Wario Land 1-3 and my VC library will be complete.

Also I doubt this game will ever be released on the VC, but has anyone heard of a puzzle game called Cool Ball? It had a little bouncy ball that you had to navigate through a maze.

Nintendo has always done local same-room multiplayer. It's what makes the Wii unique compared to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

@StuffyStuff (44)
Yoshi's Story was a 2d sidescroller, though it was aimed at kiddies.

@Daisaku36 (45)
The last Nintendo console to have a good library of RPGs was the Super NES. The decline of RPGs on Nintendo systems has a lot to do with the success of the PlayStation and the CD format for gaming. Cartridges had very limited memory, so developers chose the PlayStation since CDs could hold much more data (all those computer animated cutscenes took up a lot of space).

Re: Feature: Nintendo 64 Let-Downs, Head Scratchers and Conundrums

LordTendoboy

I played my N64 for years and years until I finally got bored with it and gave it to my sister.

The controller was decent, but the analog stick was truly god-awful. Sony got their analog sticks right the first time with the original DualShock.

Sony should be the one who is credited for reinventing controller designs. They invented the dual-analog setup that both Nintendo and Microsoft copied. But then you could say that without the N64, there probably wouldn't be a DualShock in the first place.

For the TwinBee review, please don't compare it to the standards of todays games. Games from the '80's were designed completely differently and can't possibly be compared to the games of today.

When you review TwinBee, just let it stand on it's own merits. As long as the game is fun and enjoyable, then it's a good game. Games back then didn't need stories, or voice acting, or cinematic cutscenes. Gameplay is what has always been important.

Re: Review: MotoHeroz (WiiWare)

LordTendoboy

Buying a 2000 point card isn't a big deal. Just use the leftover points to get another game. There are plenty of NES games out there, you know.

The only 10/10 WiiWare games for me are Mega Man 9 and 10. Everything else is good, but not up to the standard of Mega Man. /fanboy rant over

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's 3DS Press Conference

LordTendoboy

The 3DS is selling slightly less than the original DS. The only way it will fail is if it sells as bad as the Game.com, Atari Lynx, Sega Nomad, Game Gear, etc.

And to all the analysts who say smartphones will kill off the 3DS:

Why can't handhelds and smartphones coexist? No one said one has to reign supreme over the other. PC gaming is still around even though consoles are much more popular.

And what about all the doom & gloom for the Vita? No one says anything bad about that.

Re: Iwata Resists Calls for Smartphone Games

LordTendoboy

We payed $30 for old black and white Game Boy games back in the 1990's, and we were perfectly fine with that. Apple and Google have spoiled modern gamers, making them expect all handheld/smartphone games to be that cheap.

Re: Iwata Resists Calls for Smartphone Games

LordTendoboy

Most smartphone games are underpriced. 99 cents is extremely affordable, but it gives the wrong impression that all handheld games should be inherently cheap. Look at the prices of games on Xbox Live Arcade. None of those games are 99 cents/100 MS points, and no one complains.

Re: 3DS Sales Jump 260 Percent in US After Price Drop

LordTendoboy

@TLink9 (#1)

This. The original DS line is holding the 3DS back. People might look at the price difference and figure, "I can just get a normal DS. It's cheaper than this 3DS thing."

Yes casual consumers really do think like that. Price is a very important factor when deciding on a purchase. Also, the 3DS is now the same price as a DSiXL, meaning the old DS line should be cheaper (or just discontinued).

Re: Analogue Stick Add-On for 3DS Revealed

LordTendoboy

Just found this bit of info from a GoNintendo commenter.

In the article, Monster Hunter producer Ryozo Tsujimoto is interviewed about the 3DS Circle Pad peripheral, which is technically being called the "Expansion Slide Pad." Tsujimoto calls the device a "secret weapon," which will help replicate the Monster Hunter Tri experience on a portable. --- IGN

So this add on is only for Monster Hunter?

@y2josh

"Gyro controls screw up the 3D effect."

That's why you leave the 3D off. I can't even see it, so it doesn't matter to me. The gyro controls are probably the best thing about the 3DS; they work wonderfully in Ocarina of Time 3D. I love how you actually move the system to pan the camera and aim. It's so intuitive.

Re: Analogue Stick Add-On for 3DS Revealed

LordTendoboy

@James

"Is a second analog input really that important?"

Try playing an Xbox 360 or PS3 game with one analog stick. More specifically, try playing an FPS game with one analog stick. Remember all the FPS games on the N64? Yeah...

Re: Review: Super Mario Land (3DS Virtual Console / Game Boy)

LordTendoboy

The reason the game is so hard is because of multiple reasons:

  • Everything is too small. It's hard to see certain enemies approaching.
  • The jumping physics are worse than Super Mario Bros. 1
  • The collision detection is terrible.

If it weren't for nostalgia and the awesome music, I'd give it a 5.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Preparing Dual Analogue 3DS Revamp

LordTendoboy

The main thing that makes this rumor completely false is this:

"analog stick add-on for current 3DS systems"

Nintendo would never do that. It would split their userbase even worse than the Wii MotionPlus add-on. For one thing, where would you attach it? The 3DS doesn't have any expansion ports.

And a complete revamp of the system would be nice, but it's far too early. Nintendo should wait at least a year before bringing out a redesigned system.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Preparing Dual Analogue 3DS Revamp

LordTendoboy

No no no. I just bought a 3DS a few days ago. And the 3DS is selling pretty good now that the price is cheaper. We have a bunch of big games coming out this Christmas, so sales should improve even more.

What else do you need? The 3DS is an excellent value at $169 (ironically, it's the same price as a DSi XL). If anything, Nintendo needs to drop the prices of the DSi and XL, since they are too close to the 3DS' price now. Also, they should discontinue the DS Lite, since it's extremely outdated.

A new 3DS model would be overkill. Some consumers are already confused by all the different DS revisions out there, and a new model would make things even worse.

Re: Sonic 4: Episode II Not Due Until 2012

LordTendoboy

If Sega doesn't make the rest of Sonic 4, then we will be left with an incomplete game. I think Sega's just going to release both episodes together on a disc (for the Wii), and have the Xbox 360/PS3 versions in digital form.

This is why I hate episodic gaming. Could you imagine if Sonic Colors or Generations were episodic?

Re: Wii U Controller Patent Reveals Interesting Features

LordTendoboy

@Sgt_Ludby

"I love the prospect of playing without a TV!"

I did that back in 1990 with the Game Boy.

Why does everyone think this controller is so revolutionary? Nintendo basically made a handheld system as the Wii U's controller. It's a handheld without a cartridge slot.

And I bet the flash memory will be for transferring save data between the controller and console.
