I will always love Nintendo, but this is it. This was the Wii U's last hope, honestly, and it failed to rise up to the challenge. It's depressing to see one of the best games of the year selling so little worldwide (Mario). I think it may be time to pull out of the home console business. Well, not now — they'd lose even more money, but within a couple years. Keep the handheld consoles going, there are no problems there. The 3DS is still fantastic and completely dominates. It will hurt if Nintendo does pull out of the home console business, but these sales are embarrassing and this can't go on.
I never expected this to sell a lot in Japan. They really just are not warming up to Wii U, and are really only loving handhelds nowadays. I think sales here in North America will tell a bit of a different tale.

This also goes to show Nintendo can't win. 3D World was announced, and many raged, crying out for Galaxy 3. Miyamoto now says Galaxy 3 isn't out of the question, and people cry for something new. If they do announce something new, Super Mario Universe or something, people are going to cry out for Galaxy 3 and, hell, maybe even Mario 3D World 2.
Galaxy 1 and 2 are essentially perfect to me, and I would love Galaxy 3. It's a very safe bet, though - of course it'll be great, it's the Galaxy series. I say make a Galaxy 3, so the Galaxy series can be a trilogy. Then, move on. Don't milk it forever. Move on to the next brand of 3D Mario games.
From this interview, I really get the sense that Galaxy 3 is happening. They brought it up an awful lot and Miyamoto went out of his way to say that 3D World doesn't mean they're never making another Galaxy. I say expect a Galaxy 3 announcement maybe next year or the year after.
Legitimately facepalmed. Here I thought it was just a little mention of it, but bro spends a minute and a half talking about how cool it is that he can play Nintendo games on this thing.
It's true. Nintendo makes the best games on the planet, and I buy their consoles solely for their games. I remember trying to get NSMB Wii used, and it was still a ridiculous price — EB Games has new at $65 and used at $45.
I just don't have the heart to trade in Nintendo games. I want to keep them forever.
I'm glad to see people calming down about this Direct in the comments. I, too, was extremely disappointed at first - and this game was the main reason why, combined with the terrible lag during the stream. I think Galaxy 1&2 are the best games ever created, so I felt like Nintendo punched me in the face after seeing this act as their successor. I'm still disappointed, don't get me wrong. I think it's clear that the simple design of this game simply will not be able to meet the standard set by the Galaxy games in most people's opinion. However, it does look very fun, and it'll be great playing with friends. I also kind of feel like we'll still eventually be getting a proper 3D Mario title for Wii U, we just have to wait a bit longer for it now.
Cute apology. The stream cutting out was indeed pretty bad, though. Totally killed my hype. At the end of the day, though, it's about the games, and I do believe there were great games there.
Hopefully they aren't rushing it. A 3D Mario game is the last thing I'd want them to rush, especially when they'll be attempting to top my two favourite games ever made. In my eyes, Nintendo's true masterpieces typically come in the form of 3D Mario games and home console Zelda games.
I'm SO glad to say that Nintendo seriously knocked it out of the park. I keep it real and admit when they screw up, like at E3 last year, but I admit this was fantastic and has me feeling excited about the system. I can't even take people complaining seriously because they packed so many great things into this. Wii U Direct + Pokemon X and Y's announcement leave me feeling much more positive about Nintendo this year.
Mario Kart U, Mario U (Galaxy 2 is probably my favourite game ever), the new Monolift Soft game (Xenoblade is up there as one of my favs, too), Yarn Yoshi, Windwaker HD, and Zelda U are DEFINITE buys for me. If I had to pick one favourite, and I'm happy to say that it's hard to pick, it would be the Monolift Soft game, considering we got to see actual footage of it. If that game was released right this moment, I'd drop everything and play it right away. Other possible buys: Wii U Party, The Wonderful 101 (looks great but will look at reviews), maybe the Fire Emblem one? Maybe Bayonetta? I've never played a Fire Emblem game or Bayonetta....
Nintendo NEEDS a big announcement alongside the Wii U. None of this letdown like E3 - don't save something like NintendoLand for last (for the record, I still will play NintendoLand and it looks fun). Show Retro's new game last or something. Wow people.
I'd like to say I have low expectations, but I can't help but hope for something huge.

I doubt it could beat Fire Emblem Awakening

Microsoft, what are you doing?
Re: First Impressions: Pokémon X & Y
@belmont You can't really judge 3DS games by what you see online. They always look bad online.

This is why Nintendo should have released Animal Crossing over here in time for Christmas. smh.
